I'm with Clarko. Long sleeves look stupid and wreak of softness. Yes we have some absolute legends who wore them - this doesn't change my mind however. Don Scott is a Hawthorn legend also but I am hardly going to be taking fashion cues from him.

I am back playing in football in Melbourne this year and my club had the option of an additional long sleeve jumper. I have jumped at the chance. Looks like I am soft however

soft how? it's just clothing

My main concern around long sleeves is that once you are up and running, those sleeves are going to make it hard to shed excess heat. This translates into a higher heart rate at a given level of effort. In other words, you are using up additional energy and potentially sweating more than you would in short sleeves. When I was playing under 12s at 8 am on a Saturday morning in the middle of winter, I was pretty thankful for long sleeves but at afl level it just shouldn't be needed as you are always on the move.

Kinda curious- how do they make a person look soft?

Because if I could play junior soccer in a short sleeve jumper and shorts, playing early mornings in a Canberra winter when I was 7 - I think it is a tad soft when people need long sleeves because of the 'cold' of a Melbourne winter. I get others may differ - but Clarko agrees with me so I am okay with it.

See above post, and yes I would agree.

Melbourne winters aren't that cold.

Who cares if its due to cold or comfort......its clothing

These guys run full tilt into oncoming packs, suffer injuries and concussions which can stay with them for life.....not sure its up to a couple of keyboard warriors to label them soft due choice of clothing

I am mostly taking the piss - I know full well any long-sleeve wearing AFL player could kick the ever loving shit out of me.

That said, I will always get a bit of a giggle at what Melburnians deem as being 'too cold'.

It's wet season in Singapore, so the temperature can dip to 26 when its raining.
Locals will rug up with that temperature drop.

So, Tuck looked stupid & wreaked of softness ?

I disagree with you & Clarkson.

Maybe with the old materials but these days the guernsey material is like wearing a fishnet jumper.
