Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Jack Ginnivan!

I think it’s more he averages less tackles in his career than Mitch Lewis and a third of the tackles Luke Breust does.

He’s got something to work with but he’s also got a lot to work on.
Indeed. With both Chol and Ginnivan, the risks are that their 40 goal seasons are similar in that the goal tallies were the only impressive aspects. Even more so that they weren't backed up in any significant way.

In 2022, amongst small/medium forwards, he was:

7th for Frees For
9th for Goals

but also...

39th for Player Rating
36th for Score Involvements Per Game
64th for Goal Assists Per Game
47th for Pressure Acts Per Game
49th for Ground Ball Gets Per Game
61st for Tackles I50 Per Game
66th for Tackles Per Game

Ginnivan is a good get, but he needs to demonstrate that when the free kicks aren't coming that he can still kick goals. On every metric that reflects hard work he has plenty of work to do.

He’s only young and we have got plenty of hard workers around the club to show him how to go about it. Moore would be a great one to show him how hard he needs to work.

There’s definite upside given how much he struggles in other aspects aside from kicking goals. My worry is if he comes in and coasts because I feel he isn’t good enough yet to make it as a small forward.

Hawthorn nuffie who kicked 40 goals as a 19 year old and won the Anzac Medal on one of the bigger stages in the AFL? 20 year old now who maybe needs a bit of guidance and could break out even further? Got him for some pick swaps?

Mark ****ing McKenzie everybody!

Feel we really over paid but he was in contact so we probably needed to.

Teams are paying way more for players who have never kicked 40 goals in a season or come anywhere close to it. I think this is a steal.

Surprised at the sycophantic praise from hawks fans here. I’d always held this forum with a bit more AFL IQ than the typical club forum, and if I was a Hawks fan I’d be super nervous the Hawks have inherited a liability here.

The rate Collingwood delicately shipped him speaks volumes.
Reckon Jack's 21st will be tame compared to a regular Tuesday evening with Buddy and Hannerbery.

The stories I have heard about Buddy Franklin as a bloke in his 20s make Ginnivan look like a bloody choir boy by comparison - both our clubs survived it. A bit of ketamine and going to the races are pretty tame transgressions. Also have fun on the high horse when you support a club that still idolises Michael O'Loughlin despite his off-field incident being FAR worse than anything Ginnivan has even been rumoured (incorrectly) to have done.

A Swines fan waxing lyrical about sycophancy.... oh the ironing!

One of my friends (girl) absolutely loved Hawthorn and Buddy. After meeting him one night back around 07ish. Opinion changed drastically. Still loved Hawthorn though which was good!

If he puts even 1 foot wrong

Be it something as simple as public intoxication
Or drugs
Or something sexual

I will be ropeable!

*** But I will gladly take some ducking free kick goals :p
His goals dried up when they changed the ducking rule.

Disgusted by this. Once the umpires caught on to his ducking for frees his goals per game (and usefulness to Collingwood) dried right up. When up the ground he just hacks the ball forward and is an absolute liability. No wonder they were happy to ship him off. Not to mention the Mcstay video...

We have bought an absolute dud here and I'm filthy about it. With the future picks we will be slipping back a minimum of 10 spots in the draft in the 2nd and 4th rounds, and have slipped back 6 spots in this years 2nd round. How is this a good pick up?

His goals "dried up" because he played fewer games and spent less time on ground in the games he did play. Don't let that get in the way of your rant though.

Considering how light on we were for forwards prior to Chad going down and Brockman leaving, this is a fantastic get. And a fair trade, as we know Grham Woirght has always been good to deal with.

I think another thing that will help with Ginnivanis maturity and growing up is the difference as to where the 2 clubs are now with their list demographic. Having a large group of regular playing younger guys, they are part of the standards that get set. Being told to pull his head in and how to behave and prepare, won't only be coming from the Leaders but also the likes of mature young guys like Newcombe, Day, Ward, Weddle, and MacDonald. They are similar in age to him and as we all know, having your mates tell you makes you listen more.

Also the difference between Collingwood and Hawthorn is as they already have a professional and mature squad, they were able to use the just enjoy it and have less structure around behaviors etc. As we develop a young list we still need to have rules, structures, and a lot of instruction as to how to maintain our standards in place so the young guys can learn what they are.

Getting Ginnivan a year ago was a pipedream, as we would've been paying an absolute premium for such a talented kid. I think this acquisition will be looked at as an absolute bargain.

We needed more goalkicking options other than Breust and Lewis. Ginnivan is a clever goalsneak. He's also a pest that loves to get under the opposition's skin. He's our little pest now, back where he belongs, wearing the brown and gold stripes!

Welcome Jacky Boy!
