Massively excited for the young man!
That being said, he's been in the AFL system for all of one week and I'm not expecting us to immediately improve with his inclusion.

what do you think his number will be? 25 or 44.

Pick a kid that you told to put a price on his head then not play him, there would be huge grumbles from JK if they did that. Jai is in good form so give him a go. No point tanking withour giving the young guys a go.

Excited to see him play with tempered expectations.

Without heaping pressure on him, I think the recruitment of Newcombe is indicative of the direction we want to go. We've played long a fiar bit of soft footy this year and this is a guy who is as tough and relentless as it gets from start to finish.

I won't be surprised if in the national draft we pick someone who is a tough bastard rather than flashy.

Hopefully we need players that like unsociable football again and left footers

Geez. They must be quietly very happy with his development growth to throw him straight in.

Huge compliment to Jai to get the nod straight away - hope he enjoys it!
I remember someone here posting that Sam Mitchell had said that he was of the opinion that there are a couple of players that were at Box Hill (not on the senior list) that should be getting a game before some senior listed players that we're getting games. It all kind of makes sense now that Jai had the terms on himself that he did and is now pretty much walking right into the seniors. Whomever that was that posted that info if you could please elaborate more on this that would be awesome. Not sure whom the other player or player would be from BH but I'd assume that would've been Bramble who isn't far off a debut either.

Damn that young fella had some serious guns!

Looks like he has been working as a brickies labourer whilst playing VFL 😁

I hope we don't strip 5kgs of him and turn him into another lightly framed endurance athlete as we really need physical bull in the middle right now with explosive rather than endurance power.

Farm boy, working as an apprentice chippie. Good combination for a well built 19 year old.

Yeh a 4 year contract and a immediate debut for a mid season draftee is pretty much unheard off I suggest.

Tells me they think they have a live one here in young Duke.
