I don’t even bother taking notice of the rising star anymore , Rhys Palmer anyone ?

Also Higgins has played majority of games with the reigning premier and top side and is actually a pretty decent contributor for them .
It’s actually laughable it’s taken until round 18 for him to get one

It’s good that Worpel can keep flying under the radar IMO

The Cyril highlights of year one were amazing viewing. Rhys Face Palmer

Gday Hawks fans,

Here are some highlights I put together of Worpel from the weekend.

Generally just a lot of handballs, but there are a couple of nice contested efforts and effective one twos in there as well.

Cheers.

thanks for that, i was looking for someone to make a Worpel highlights reel yesterday. At the game i yelled out "Worpedo!" i was so impressed with what i saw, the kid is a talented mid, was wasted in the forward line earlier in the year. but even as a forward i could see he was good enough.

if the rising star was based on individual performances then Worpel would have a nomination, if its based on a years worth of work then he might struggle to get a nomination this year, but i think he will be eligible for next year

Highlights how he's a generally good reader of the play and is comfortable with the speed of AFL footy. We have one here, folks. :thumbsu:

Excellent effort.... Thanks Twister.

When I watch that great highlight reel, what stands out for me is the instant decision making.

Whilst everyone else seems to run backwards, stand flatfooted and look to go further backwards ... The Worpedo has already decided where the ball is going a split second before he takes possession, then just concentrates on getting it there.

I love it. Stops all the zoning bs that happens when you give the other team time to set up.

when Worpel kicked it long into the forward line and no-one was there, i have a sneaky suspicion he thought the female umpire was a Hawk player from the corner of his eye, or else he assumed someone would be there, but that was his only real mistake.

Quick decisions and great execution. The 3 best i50's for the match belong to him. The 2 lace out passes to a player on the lead from just outside 50 and the long bomb to Swiss from between wing and the half forward flank. That last one was after an excellent hit up contested mark as well. Very easy to see why this kid was the Falcons captain. So far what isn't easy to see is why he went so late in the draft. It was supposedly all about his disposal and tank. Both seem to have come on leaps and bounds.

A lot more time and effort than I would spend on an opposition player - bravo! Cheers for compiling and sharing!

there was some perceived (wrongly) flaws that he might have had, AFL recruiters arent always right and this is an example of them getting it wrong once again...

That highlight video highlights two things we need in our next midfielder. Bloody loves contact - not afraid to get his shoulders into it, but not in a dangerous manner. He's got bloody good vision it would seem too - possibly the best I have seen in a young Hawk since Hill. As others have mentioned - the knock on his disposal by foot was a tad harsh - he is no Langford by foot that's for sure.

Seems like a hard but smart player. Time to jump aboard the Worpedo bandwagon.

Thanks - great compilation - I am more excited than Big Kev!

We draft good kickers and they can't hit the ******* side of a barn

Draft inefficient, dodgy kicking hacks and they turn into Jarmen

I have a theory about this.

The nature of the underage comp is that the ball deliverers aren't necessarily pressured to a great degree, so they're allowed the time and space to kick. They're also given the opportunity to kick to forward lines that aren't as dynamic and have less clutter. As such, the outside players at a younger level don't necessarily have the ball-to-boot reaction time or the ability to make decisions on the spot.

The contested players, think Worpel this year or Jack Graham for Richmond last year, have that ability to think quick and make decisions. They're also given the opportunity to kick to players of a higher calibre, that have better leading patterns - so an instinctual kick to a leading target will be met, as opposed to in the underage comps where the forward might not be good enough to read the ball off the boot and get there.

Wow, great work on the video, thanks for sharing.
That was an unbelievably impressive 4th game for Worpel. His inside 50s were as good as it gets, and he seemed very composed.
We have some walk-up starters who haven't played many better games in their careers.
Hopefully put himself permanently above Langford and Duryea

Great highlight package well done.

He keeps his body very still in the contest I notice. Always a good sign for a contested ball player. How well built is he too, hard to believe he is only 19.

And those little dinky hit up kicks to the forward 50 leads were very remiscent of Sam Mitchell (no higher praise)

I can see how their might of been queries on his tank but his kicking is sublime....

Surely he couldn't have improved his kicking that much in one pre season (more likely the recruiters stuffed up again to our benefit)

I was going to draw comparison to the way he kicks to Mitchell, very balanced when kicking. I think he stays within his bounds as well. Even the kick back to a player in the 50 who then hit up Breust. That had a ton of class and vision to it. It was a repeat effort that he then cooly slotted a nice 20 meter pass into a better position. great signs.

Very good vision like Hill, unlike Hilly though he can hit a target on the lead. Hilly was terrible at first by foot and was never fantastic at it, but he got better as he went along.
