just watched the tac cup GF for which T mac was awarded best on ground.

Really lifted Oakleigh in the 2nd quarter when he moved on the ball. He closes down space quickly defensively and was classy with ball in hand. really nice marking and kicking in this game and pretty much just hurt them where ever he went. Wasn't a great game to be a small forward so just as well he moved up the ground and made an impact.
do you have a link for that game?

Hope this kid turns into a Brad Johnson kind of player. One who can play above his height and outmark and outsmart his opponent... Exciting times hopefully

I see a resemblance to Jarrad Grant, especially the non-smiling bit. Hopefully that's where the resemblance ends.

There's something very Rockliff/Luke Parker about this recruitment. We'll look back on it in a few years and ask how he comfortably slipped to our pick after what he'd shown

You see him definitely moving into the middle full time zgope? Thought he'd just be great to pair with Dahl in the forward line but after hearing that he's moved into the middle in the TAC and accumulated big numbers I'm keen to see just how high his ceiling is! We really did rate him very highly seeing as we had him above D McKenzie (going by that thread about our draft info)

He'll definitely play plenty of time there into the future. He's super fit and clever in the packs up the ground. Also someone we want helping bring the ball forward just as much as being there at the drop of the ball inside 50. My tip is it'll be about 65 -35 mid to forward for him at his prime

I asked a friend who has the results, he said McLean tested poorly in the sprints and agility testing. Seems strange as he looks very agile at the very least.

I don't look to much into the combine results to be honest, whilst they do tell a lot. They can also be misleading. It is like taking an exam, you could be the brightest person in school, but you could have your one in a hundred bad exam, and unfortunately your whole year is mostly judged by one single test.

My point being, if he looks fast and agile on his game tapes, then perhaps their could be reasons he tested poorly. Lack of sleep, nervous, tight muscles, or perhaps it was just one of those kind of days? :p

Been gifted with athletic abilities are useful, but if a player can't apply them in an actual AFL game then they are a waste

I hope he has a solid endurance base because I believe I really want to see him go through the midfield

May be a odd thing but i noticed during Mclean interview that he's left side lip doesn't lift while talking.
He may have suffered bell's palsy (just a total guess) which would explain a few photos of him not smiling.

I also suffered bells palsy and one side of my face is lower than my other

Just something i noticed, could be totally wrong.

I've got it as well and I agree it looks like he might have it from that interview. I don't like to smile in photos either so that'd explain that.

Don't mean to toot my own horn but I'm surprised at the lack of endurance in some players. Or at least in their test results. Now I can't run out a football game but when I was 16 I had a 14.8 beep and a 9.50 3km. These guys have been training to play afl ffs, I was just a regular jogger.

Maybe I'm one of those weirdos that really likes running so it's different for me- like I said, I can't run out a footy game

Time trial isnt that quick in all honesty. AFL players would be doing it in low 9's i would have to assume.

That being said, really like the look of him, seems to move well in traffic and knows what to do with it. Hopefully he can make an impact for the team.

That was just outside the top ten in the draft combine. Only 5 players did it in under 10 minutes, at least there is a base to work with.

So I managed to talk to my cousin who's friends with Toby, and he had a few things to say about him:

Was far and away the best player down at Narre Warren, everybody though he would be picked up easily.

Skinny as a rake.

A bit of a ball hog, but he told my cousin that's because he knew he's so much better than than everyone else he was playing with :D

Has really good drive and a hunger to make it AFL level.
