We deserved that, despite the injuries to Shuey, JK, Darling, Naitanui, Shep and the suspension of Gaff.

We weren't even that clean, lots of dropped marks, but boy those mids stood up and our defence as a whole is tough as nails and tough mentally.

Yeah, I think Collingwoods forward entries from the 2nd qtr up until half way through the last is what cost them. Compared to the Eagles ability to score off the rebound, and better forward entries. That was the difference for me.

I bet every Eagles supporter now thinks the $1.6b Optus stadium with its mcg dimensions was worth every cent! congrats eagles!

Technically it's not the same but certainly much closer than Subi Oval.

And it can fit 20,000 more fans. Money well spent if you're an Eagles fan.

I actually don't mind this Eagles team. Seem a more likable bunch than previous eras.
Thanks mate, there has been a massive change at the club now and in 2007 our club was in tatters off the field. To see the club being led by Hurn, Mcgovern, Shuey, Josh Kennedy, Nic Nat and Brad Sheppard fills me with so much joy. Well deserved premiership

McGovern marked, Vardy marked, Ryan marked, Sheed marked and then goaled.
The one thing we feared above all else got us in the end. Eagles marking power in the contests.
It was some kick from the boundary to win it too.
Hats off to the Eagles, they went out and won it with their own good play in the end.
No fluke, no arse, just good play.
So I’m not dark on anything. We did our best.
You guys stood up when it mattered.
Congratulations.
You should be very very proud of your team. They were immense start to finish, no one took a backward step. Well done to Collingwood every one has been first class

Yep love him, he is all class, the players love him and we love him
Great man Simmo 2 G.F's and a Flag in 5 yrs.

But seriously congratz on an amazing performance without Natinuei,Gaff and a few more.

And also i wasn't aware how similar Optus stadium dimensions were to the G they showed it on G.F day.I know your training fascilities also cater for it but because of G.F being played at the G.

Even if it helped by 5pcnt it's a no brainer.

I don't think we ever doubted it. It's a great stadium to watch footy at, the bar across from it is top notch and the atmosphere is brillant, and yes, now its got us a flag.

Pretty amazing that the first year we have MCG similar dimensions is the year we win a flag. Coincidence?

Me too mate, i was in tears, 10 years ago our club was in tatters and now to see Hurn, Mcgovern, Shuey and JK as leaders fills me with immense pride.
I also spare a thought for the likes or Eric Mackenzie, who was one of our best players a few years ago but was robbed of his best football years. And even Beau Waters, who could very well have been the captain this year had he not been forced into early retirement by injury. Or Priddis, who was contracted for this year but pulled the plug because we had to move on. And of course Naitanui, Sheppard and Gaff – but they will have further opportunities.

I was really surprised at how emotional I got. I'm not an emotional guy by any means, but about 9pm, after a few too many beers I reflected on the day and yep, I started to cry. Very strange.

Just read McGuire's comments post match.:thumbsu:

Class act after the game Eddie. Must have been heart breaking but went in and congratulated our guys in the rooms.:thumbsu:

Congratulated both teams on an epic GF and also the Eagles as a club.

Eddie may say some 'interesting' things at times but his talk post game was all class.

Talked to a few people who were in Melbourne and they all came back saying it was a great crowd and no issues at all. I think that close game just took the wind out of everyone emotionally and both supporter groups were in shock with the close result.:thumbsu:

Our three best ever players (in terms of contribution to club) to have retired without a flag would now read something like:
1. Matthew Priddis
2. Phillip Matera
3. Eric Mackenzie

So sad for Mackenzie that he missed practically all of 2015 and 2018.

My "Eagles song" this time round was Eagles "Take It To the Limit". I think I played that 20 times since we beat the Demons.
