West Coast Eagles Priority Pick (2024)

Lol...

One second North are getting huge assistance packages that are unfair because they are so valuable

The next minute the idea of getting two picks that are better than any of North's assistance picks are considered not worth the "difference" between Reid and McKercher or Sanders (both of whom are as good as Reid in my opinion, and based on performance over the last 18 months)
You do realise this is Reid's third game and not really enough time to make a comparison?

I myself - like the majority of West Coast supporters - do NOT want priority picks (unless they become systemized again like they used to be and the same rules apply for every club).

HOWEVER - we are now in a NEW era where the bottom team gets their second round pick after pick 30 and many clubs have access to top end talent that other clubs do not have access to.

That's where the AFL is currently at, and something may need to give sooner or later...

Where did the eagles go wrong?

Take a look at their drafting record from 2014-18.

Only Duggan, Allen, Waterman, Ryan, Williams, Petrucelle are still on the list.

Some of it is bad drafting (Brander) and some is bad luck (Venables).

You can’t only find 6 players over 5 drafts and only one A grader.

It’s why they have a huge gap in their age profile.

North got assistance in 2022 based off their three previous seasons.

West Coasts last 3 seasons by the end of 2024 will be substantially worse than norths.

North currently won 4.5 more games than west coast 3 seasons 2020-2022.

Doubt West coast win 4.5 games to get even with north.

I agree with you though. Many west coast supporters not coping very well with their current position in the AFL food chain

Based on w/l and % we are far worse 2022-2024 than north were in 2020-2022.

North
2020 17th 3W 14L 71.2%
2021 18th 4W 1D 17L 70.3%
2022 18th 2W 20L 55.8%

West Coast
2022 17th 2W 20L 59.8%
2023 18th 3W 20L 53.0%
2024* 18th 0W 3L 42.8%

North 9W 1D
West Coast 5 wins*

Difference of more than 4 wins with a far lower percentage.

It’s round 3 lol

might be a good idea to stop quoting numbers and “truths”.

History in this thread says you’re a touch biased and factually lacking,

Maybe give this thread a break?!

Is the Tim Kelly trade deal and the far too late call on NicNat also a factor?

People keep saying that but that's not an argument

Tim Kelly is our
1. Best mid
2. Best mid under 29

So I'm not so sure that's an argument. Would you prefer us to replace our best mid with 2 specaltive players under 22?

2 players?

It is 100% an argument!

You sold the farm because you thought 2020 was a guaranteed flag with Kelly.

Draft Picks are specaltive, you should put that in your email to the AFL and demand clubs release Gulden, Butters, Young and Diacos to you because you don't want the chance of failing with draft picks!

Not sure what you mean by far too late call on nic Nat.

He had just won back to back All Australian blazers and BnF’s at the end of 2021. Had a bad 2022 but was training well in 2022 off season before hurting his Achilles a few weeks before round 1.

Tim Kelly deal isn’t the problem but exacerbated the issue. Any and every club does that deal in 2019.

Hindsight is 20/20 but at the time it was a no- brainer.

Non WA people were calling out the extravagant contract NicNat for a while there
Contributed nothing for 2 years top coin

Jackson wouldn’t be doing the things he’s currently going at Freo in our team.

Ruck is position that doesn’t correlate strongly with success anyway.

Most premiership teams have a decent workhorse the ruck, not a rolls
Royce.

In terms of investment of resources, draft picks and salary, it makes little sense.
jackson is basically a midfielder that rucks. the odds are that only one of hewett or ginbey will make it. it's just the odds of first rounders.

Jackson is leagues better anyone your list

Sure. But that’s how things stand right now.

West Coast is 4.5 wins and a chunk of per cent age behind where north were when they first got assistance from AFL.

Hate to tell you mate but you have to play north 2 times this year.

And we don’t know how to win.

We could be 30 points up at 3 qrt time and id back you to win

And yet for the two-and-a-half years prior to that he was the only player on our list who was playing with any heart or determination. Probably deserved the rest of the teams pay packets combined during that time.
