The MCG is a significant 24 metres wider than Subiaco! There is less open space than Etihad Stadium, and the Blues struggle there! West Coast to win by 20 points. Carlton will give it a fair dinkum go though.

Do the math KS and I'll help you along with it.

Width * 1/2 multplied by length * 1/2 * by Pi.
Get the calc out and come back to us then..

Good god ....

Mate, when I am standing 20m out from the goal I am defending and I look up field and see opposition players everywhere, what would open up more space for me to kick to; (a) 24m of extra WIDTH or (b) 16m of extra LENGTH?

Assuming I can only kick, say, 50m the answer to this question, using maths, is pretty easy ... and because you appear to need the help, its (a) ....

We play better at Subi than we do at Etihad, and we beat Carlton at Etihad by 5 goals

I'd back us in at Subi more than Etihad. We have a horrendous record at Etihad. Subi we've been very good. In fact i'd say Subi is the 2nd best venue we play at after the MCG.

I'm expecting a good match. Our squad will be very different to the last time we met.

Confident we can cause an upset, but i think WCE still deserve to be firm favourites. They've got the runs on the board.

As in we had the better version of Judd.
No disputing, he has never matched his overall 2006 output.

Not really into playing player against player in a team game, but if your assertion is that Shuey is better than Judd, then..................it doesn't matter.

P.S. Anyway, Shuey should have won the Rising Star Award.

Where are you going with this Eagle '87?

The press, the spread, the whatever is all fine when it works on the day and is not the only tool in a teams armourery.
Who knows, maybe Yarran may take three steps and outreach your 50mt. wall and unless someone can kick into the centre of the ground, that full difference won't come into contention.

Think of it this way. Every player will have more square yardage to work within, playing at Subi as opposed to playing at Etihad.
Will that alone give Carlton the win? I don't know, but it does help our game.

What is this shit I don't even........

Got no idea what you're getting at, but I'm sure you do and that's all that matters.
At least we're adding fuel to the fire for this game.
Can't be a bad thing.

Edit: My apolgies DaM.
I thought you wrote that you have the better version of Judd.
You had the better version of Judd. That's debatable, but either way we both scored pretty well.

Double Edit: Apologies to Eagle '87 for the same reason.
Helps reading a post properly.

I'm simply illustrating the silliness of believing that 16m of extra ground length makes a press harder ....

Who said the "wall" was at 50m, maybe its 70m, makes zero difference to my point. The extra ground length leaves more space behind the press but there is always plenty of space behind a press ... the lack of width compresses the game and makes a press more effective i.e. a press is more effective at Subi than at Etihad ... which makes your assertion moot. Thats been my point.

Thats an entirely different point to your 16m longer makes the press harder ....

Subi is a hard, long ground that tends to reward running ... pace is one thing, gut running is another ... I've got no doubt Carlton has plenty of players who like to play in space .... thats not a compliment ...

I'd back us in at Subi more than Etihad

Funnily enough so would we
So not only do you have to create a 5 goal turnaround from last game, you also have to add to that playing us on our ground of which I think we'd have at least another 4 goals advantage, seeing as we have played the ground more than ONCE this year

Subi we've been very good. In fact i'd say Subi is the 2nd best venue we play at after the MCG

Your saying this on the ONE game you have played there all year (against Fremantle), or when you beat our wooden spoon side last year (wasnt a convincing win)

In principle you really want to say that the press is easier on a narrower ground than it is on a wider ground. Granted.

In principle I wanted to get at the fact that the larger area (general ground space) complements Carltons way of playing the game (attach any novelty term to that)

In principle what you want to make a point of is that if the game is played in West Coasts forward 50, you will smother us and in principle I want to suggest if we use the spaces afforded by Subi, we have a good chance of a "shock" win.

In principle.

We've been entirely unconvincing against sides like the Demons and the Dogs at Etihad this season. And of course, we lost against Essendon and St Kilda there...

I prefer this game to be at Fortress Subiaco, obviously. It's where we perfected the press (duh), and we've only lost one game at home all year.

O.K. I'm just kidding.

A poster with the name Forward Press?
You Eagles!!! You all have a one track mind.

Really?

You've won 4 of your last 5. The wins start with the one against Freo a few weeks ago, when they were shit and they finished 11th.

Your other 3 wins were against the WC wooden spooners last year, the 14th placed Freo in 2009 and a 15th placed WC in 2008.

Your loss in that run was against the only decent side you played in that period - the 2010 Dockers.

So wins v 14th, 11th, 15th & 16th!

Before that, you lost 11 in a row between 2001 and 2008! 11!!! Thats 11 in case I wasn't clear enough :)

Not sure I'd be claiming Subi as a fav ground on those stats.

So... basically Subiaco is longer and narrower than the 'G?

Gonna be a close game.

You possibly won't see the spread that occurred in the game at Etihad this year, but the press will stifle even harder.

tbh I think complacency from the group will be one of the major concerns, but I am confident the Collingwood game will have given the young players a lift and the knowledge that they can handle finals football.

Eagles by 13.

Let's just simplify this argument.

Off the top of my head, Subi gives us 18,000 sq mts to work in.
If Carlton had 30,000 metres they'd be even happier, whether that be in W.A., S.A. or The Republic of Congo.

Our strength is space and Subi affords us this whether it be in the fat, the long or the tall.

the game will be played in our forward line WC 40+

this shows how naive west coast supporters are !

the defence that played against you in round 14 was minus laidler and duigan, jammo went down in the first quarter hendo was playing up forward back then, austin was playing first game in 2 years and touhy was playing his 3rd or 4th game , the back line is so much better now its ridiculous!
the only thing about westcoast that worrys me is the ruck but bring in hampson and we should do fine

Whether you have an underdone Kreuzer, an in-form Warnock, or a Hampson pushing for selection, you are going up against Cox and Naitanui, indisputably the best ruck combination in 2011.

I don't second the arrogance from some Eagles fans here though re: outcome of Saturday night. It will not be easy, mark my words.
