Alot depends on the Carlton small forwards in Betts and Garlett and whether they "turn up" or "turn it up".

Hoping for a combative, contested game where the protagonists bash the beejeezus out of themselves and leave nothing on the field. :)

whilst i'm confident of a win, the mentioned two players are going to be giving me a few sleepless nights this week, if they do what they did against freo over here then i think we might be in a little bit of trouble.

Waters, Butler, McGinity, Hurn etc are all very capable of shutting them down bud, don't worry too much!!
Even when you guys beat us earlier in the year, they still gave you guys headaches... basically because of them that they dragged us back in it in the 3rd term...

I think we're going to win... Gibbs out will be a big loss, but it's having our defence back to this game compared to last time we played has me confident!

How do you explain St Kilda's abomination of a jumper in last year's 2 grand finals then? You can't tell me they wanted to wear that thing.
St.Kilda definitely didn't want to wear their away jumper and white shorts last year, but the higher ranked team gets the choice of jumper and shorts.
Could it be something to do with the AFL pandering to the whims of certain clubs.
Of course not. Collingwood were the higher ranked team prior to the Grand Final, and were still the higher ranked team prior to the Grand Final Replay of course.
Well it wasn't Collingwood's 'home' grand final.
Last years was because we were the highest ranked team of course. Collingwood will wear a predominantly black jumper and black shorts in the Preliminary Final, and if we win that, then the same again in the Grand Final. The AFL will then determine what the opposition wears that doesn't clash.
I think officially they flip a coin don't they?
No coin toss any more.

My heart says Carlton, but my head says probably WCE. I think the fitness of Cox for them is crucial as is one of Big K or Hammo coming up, particularly Hammo....hang on, before BF goes into meltdown with Carlton haters who have never seen Hammo play telling us he is hopeless, if fit he is one of the few guys who might be able to match NicNat's spring and pace (but not his agility) unfortunately at best Hammo will be able to get through the game, but ag the WCE we need two rucks and one of them needs a spring.

Whovever was saying Hille was better than NicNat - maybe ask the Dons if they'd entertain a swap. NicNat is a freak and no-one his size can run as fast or jump as high - makes him hard to match. Hammo a must if he can get through the game. AJ will be sub or swapped for Tuohy as the Eagles don't have a match up. There smallest forward is about 188.

If we can stop the Eagles dominating the ruck, get the ball forward quickly and crumb well we are a fair chance. It is a long season and WCE have a lot of youngsters, perhaps they are feeling the pinch, perhaps not.

WCE are favourites due to last encounter and massive home ground advantage, but go in with weight of home town expectation which may effect young players (or may not).

Big Q flogged us last time, Laidler to him - giving away size but in good form. Hope Jammo can get through whole game and Hendo is amongst the most improved his season having seen off Petrie Riewoldt Hurley, and done okay on Buddy in recent weeks. Wouldn't mind if we could get Josh K back for the game, pity we couldn't trade Fev for Juddy. Woosher is an old Carlton boy, learnt the ropes as coach at Princes Park, he won't begrudge his old side a win.

In the end - win the midfield, win the game.

Be a famous victory if we could carry it off. But we have to have a fit second ruckman

Westcoast by a fair margin. It's all stacked up against carlton.

No Waite
Half fit Jameson
No Kruiser vs Cox/Natanui partnership
Narrow long ground
Gibbs carrying a shoulder injury

Just can't see how they win unless it's through a superhuman effort by Judd and Murphy.

Yep that's right - best two years of his life

I do think it's odd that a lot of Carlton supporters think they have this one in the bag, but maybe that's just me.....

That's just not the case for Carlton fans as it wouldn't be for the Eagles fans.
Some may be outwardly brazen, but I doubt anyone honestly thinks of this match as a walk up win.

Don't forget to mention, "The Press" ;)

Not worried about Carlton at all, more looking at Geelong the week after. Everytime someone from the top 4 gets beaten and one of the lesser sides win their game convincingly people seem to over-rate that. We finished above Carlton and have been the better team all year, we beat them in Melbourne when nobody thought we could, and we'll beat them again at home. They aren't coming over here and knocking us out of the finals, guaranteed.

WE ARE coming over there to knock you out of the finals!

One thing that hasn't been mentioned enough is teams (in)ability to kick straight in front of goal. Especially Carlton. When we're efficient in front of the sticks, we're capable of beating anyone, anywhere. We really need guys like Thornton and O'Hailpin to make the most of their opportunities. They won't have the freedom they had against the Bombers backline.

I can't see Thornton getting anywhere near the amount of ball against us. The defenders were just woeful against Essendon. The start of the final showed moments of choking. Yarren fumbling, missed an easy shot on goal as did other blues, got run down. Than the pressure was released and it wasn't even finals intensity after the first quarter.

This is what brings me the most confidence. It won't be a walk up win because as we know anything can happen in finals. Make as many jokes as you want about the press but the reality is, is that it's the best in the business. Heath Scotland came out and said the Eagles had the best press in the league. Other media experts have either said Coliingwood by a tiny bit or us.

Got to love the Blues supporters getting up and about after beating one of the worst finals teams I have ever seen.

How dare we even have some optimism going into a game of football. We may as well not bother watching this game. In fact the AFL could save tens of thousands of dollars by not bothering to fly the team over for the game at all.
