West Coasters Flag Prospects 2020

I thought that too and checked. Richmond left the state 4 times up to rd 16. A lot for a Vic side, but nowhere near Interstate travel. It is the perceived idea that they travelled a lot, but not really.

Draw doesn’t just mean travel, as you have pointed out. It also takes into account HGA. Prior to our run home, we had 5 neutral games at the G and 1 with HGA vs Geelong, who themselves play there plenty. We travelled to GC, GWS, Adelaide x2, and Perth. We also had 4 games at Marvel (3 away) including a “home” game vs Sydney. Prior to our run home, we only had 5 home games with our members, with one of them being the Marvel game. Doesn’t exactly help when you pay up for a membership and see your team 5/15 games. We also had 3 away games in a row and 2 lots of 2 games away in a row. For a Vic team where 10/18 teams are based, that is a shit fixture.

But... it was evened up with our run home.

As many many posters have pointed out, swings and roundabouts. In the end, it’s a very even comp so clearly all this fixture griping doesn’t really mean much cause the best teams tend to win anyway regardless

Indeed the FIXture does not just mean travel, so in the first 2/3 of the year you travelled 4 times & the in the last 1/3 only once.
Sucked was your description, WHY?

Did any non Vic side only travel 4 times in that time (2/3), guess that'd be a NO....
Did any non Vic side only travel once in that time (1/3)....

How many travelling sides did you play?
How often was travel involved in games with 5/6 day breaks?

Think they have a great shot at it. Got the talent and the game plan but need a good bolt of confidence to get it over the line. Loss to the Hawks late after the previous weeks loss exposed a few last season. Finals were an uphill battle.

As for travel and fixture, get over it. International sports its a given. Afl players are not exactly extending themselves. No less pressure. If that’s the analysis then why are a number of Vic teams still horrible? Never heard Matera or Cousins piss and moan about it, they just went out and kicked ass.

AFL, is probably the most non International well known sport in the world.

Its not as if the players are complaining IS IT?

Quite right on the end of season 2019 - Simmo got the timing right in 2018, didnt in 2019, & will learn from it.

Why are West Coast all of a sudden on Richmond’s level? Yeah, they got T Kelly, but Richmond get Rance back, not to mention Graham and Stack plus a full season of Pickett.

They were a good average team throughout 2019 and rightfully finished outside of the top four. I don’t think one player all of a sudden elevates them to the number spot (or on par with).

From their final games in 2019, GWS have Coniglio and Ward coming back, with a fit Whitfield and Davis. Collingwood have Langdon, Beams, De Goey and Cox to return. Geelong have also picked up a couple of handy players. Then there’s the Bulldogs and Brisbane, with far more upside than West Coast.

Hurn and Kennedy aren’t getting any younger either (it was sad watching JK running around this season - has been a great player). Willie Rioli is also gone. Didn’t they have a good run with injuries this season as well?

Am I missing something? West Coast are being severely overrated ITT and are behind a few sides as it stands. They were all out of ideas when sides shut down their kicking game. Their depth is also ordinary and paper thin. Oscar Allen is a good prospect but they have no young stars coming through. They sold the farm to get Kelly as well. If they don’t win it this year (which I don’t think they will), it’s going to be a hard fall.
Love the underdog and minimal press

This is a quality melt.

It sounds like you don't rate West Coast as a challenger for the flag in 2020. You're entitled to your opinion, but it is an opinion that isn't shared by majority of people in this thread, on this forum, in the media, or the betting markets.

Also - You are way off the mark in the way you rate our depth and young talent. West Coast will be around the mark next year and future years after that.

Who would you rank as top 4 favourites for flag in 2020?
Always food to be not rated and be underdog.
West Coast top4 for sure

I have a nagging feeling that Hawthorn could be a thorn in the sides of many teams in 2020.

Well I already have our game in Tassie against the hawks penciled in for an L, regardless of whether they are actually good or not.

Hopefully they can do a bit of damage to some other top teams over the year too.

Fit NN and Tim Kelly is literally completely game changing and instantly puts us in flag contention. No doubt.

Bolded part is the x factor.

If NicNat can play out a whole season we finish top 2 and make another grand final.

If it is another year like 2019, or even 2018 it will be a much harder slog.

I'll be honest man. You are an incredibly nonsensical poster. I've tried responding to some of your other posts but don't know where to begin.

The 1st bolded is easy though: Home games.

The second bolded is easier: I doubt it because 10/18 teams are based in Victoria. Idk what you expect? That all interstate teams get 15+ games at their home grounds. I challenge you to make a full 22 game fixture that has every team with that many home games. Pretty confident it's impossible. So stop whinging. You have to travel but get massive HGA. We don't have to travel but don't get massive HGA. Swings and roundabouts.

Yep I agree . Get your wins early so you can manage things at the end of the season coming into finals. Richmond’s draw last year was meant to hinder them not help and also give opposition teams finals like atmospheres and experience late in the season ( remember all the sooking that goes on about only playing at the G once in round 3 etc)
Richmond made the draw look an advantage...but the facts show that it doesn’t matter when you play Richmond .. if you play them at the G you will lose.

You seem to be missing the point. This thread isnt about us winning a flag in 2024. Who cares about the upside of the youngsters of the lions? Or the dogs? That lions side you are rating went out in straight sets in 2019 after an easy draw. Some are over rating WC, but you are under rating them.

Nic Nat barely played in 2019 either and wasnt 100% fit ever. I also think you fail to recognize how adding a brownlow medal calibre player in Kelly into an already top 4 midfield can change a side. Good luck trying to stop Yeo, Shuey, Gaff, Kelly, Redden while Nic Nat serves it to them.

Few weeks out of the finals, WC were flag favorites and by having these 2 variables added, have every chance to win a flag. We had 8 debutants the year we won the flag too. Rioli is a blow but hes a blow in already the most stacked forward line in the game.

Sad watching Kennedy? He kicked 49 goals. And that old man Hurn was AA.

Flag sides generally don't have a ton of young kids coming through because they are in their window. If they did, theyd be too young to win a flag. We dont need a gun 1st year or 2nd year to win a flag in 2020. What we do need is a gun 6 to 10 year player and we got a ton of those

Get the wins early is big aim of Simmo, we stuffed up there in 2019, were 3-3 after 6. No room to drop games as we did late.
