That we won’t find help for Weitering

Our forlorn group of small forwards continue to misfire or fail to apply any pressure of significance

Voss is unable or unwilling to balance the best 23 every week which will allow young talent to grow and develop

That Charlie Curnow continues to anchor inside the forward 30

Matthew Nicks proven he has no clue about coaching strategies... which is why we have brought in Davis to take this over.

Player wise, squad looks decent... except if O'Brien is injured, we are in big strife!

Our midfield/rucks.

We can't be relying on Dangerfield and Stanley to still carry us again in 2025. We need Conway to stay on the park and the likes of Bruhn, Bowes, Atkins and Mulin to step up to help Smith/Holmes. Can't be plodding around with 15 disposals a game or less as a full time mid.

Injuries are the thing that could stop us in our tracks.

We’ve had a heap of them the last couple of years (4 years actually), in particular early (started both seasons missing about 8 of our expected best 23 or so), but we had a pretty significant amount of experienced depth to cover them (especially in 2023), but we’ve now cleared a lot of them out, and replaced them with teenagers, and over a quarter of our list are now currently under 20yo.

So if we get hit hard with injuries again, it will be hard to cover for them. Especially if they play key position or ruck.

Zaine Cordy is currently our only genuine KPP or ruck depth option who has AFL experience!

The big one is Rankine not being able to transition into a number 1 inside midfielder.

Other than that, it's all about the core and their development for me:

  • What if Thilthorpe, Soligo and Rachele can't convert last year into becoming genuine A-graders (TT had a 7 game stretch, both Rash and Soligo threatened but couldn't find the consistency).
  • What if Curtin, or Draper gets hurt and/or can't lock down a best 22 spot.
  • What if Worrell/Keane can't lock down the CHB spot beyond doubt.
  • What if Fogarty regresses
  • What if Dawson can't be transitioned into a 4th-5th inside mid role.
  • What if none of our 2nd tier prospects make a conceited push into being seen as a core piece. I have high hopes for Dowling, Edwards, Ryan, Nankervis and Pedlar, but high hopes doesn't equal a lad putting up numbers.

I kind of figure that Nicks sorts himself out here either way. Either we stumble, he's fired and we can sell our list + another top 10 draft pick to a prospective coach, or he saves his job and we (finally) return to finals.

People still care this much about ruckmen?
