Personally I think using mental health as an excuse is weak. Just own the drug use, majority of people out there are on it.
I don't think he's using it as an excuse.
I work in and have suffered with mental health for quite a while now.

It is absolutely something many young men who are struggling mentally do.
They hide in partying, drugs and sex. They don't want to stop or think about what they are doing because then they will feel bad again. It's destructive and it's dangerous and I hope Baz is really working on it.

I agree, I think his issues post season do give added context without excusing it. Not to say he might not partake in it during the season too (I know of at least several players at our club who do and I'm sure there are more, as with all clubs), but he may well have lost the plot and let it spiral between the Grand Final and taking that personal break in December.

Wow.

For someone who's posted 20 times in 13 years, you're very busy tonight!

You must be absolutely exhausted right now

Are there posting rules I am not aware of?? Are you the posting number police??

Bahaha the over reactions of suspend him for weeks is hilarious, the fact that probably 70% of players are out doing this shit every weekend to. As I’ve seen with my own eyes over the years players from plenty of different clubs during the season using recreational drugs. Statements have come out so move on.

Agreed. His real crime was filming himself. I mean, wow. Elite stupid.

Should be suspended for the remainder of the year and hope he losses all of his sponsorships Stipid and self absorbed behaviour from a self entitled privileged kid who needs to learn he represents a football club of 100+ years history that is bigger than him and his social media profile.
He should be sent to Ukraine to rescue those three cretin foreign mercenaries from the UK and Morocco captured by the Russians. :)

Well said. The problem with drugs is that they are illegal and all drugs use should be decriminalised. The only winners are drug cartels, the CIA, and corrupt politicians. Lots of education helps.

The fact that they can ruin the lives of users and others including their families is a problem too

He’s made a joke, not pissed in your pocket

From the bag half full perspective, it's already from the time he took a mental health break, he is already working on these issues and has fully owned it in his statement. No further action is needed from the club other than supporting him through this to make sure that he learns to keep the phone away from these kinds of activities

Very good sir

In some ways this is a storm in a teacup - young but famous person caught out because they do some recreational drugs, particularly when alcohol isn't quite as prevalant for some.

In other ways it's not though, particularly when the person in question takes sponsorship dollars from multiple "family-friendly" brands and is a high profile player at the footy club (second to Bont, I'd say).

I'd have liked to avoided some of the conversations I had with my 10 and 7 year old boys today who idolise Baz, but then again maybe that's the best time to have them. I'd hope that at least some of it cut through. Either way, I hope he learns his lesson(s) and cracks on from here.

It's a good lesson for why they shouldn't idolise football players. You should be teaching them to idolise more responsible individuals. Someone like Philip Lowe who got his PhD in economics from MIT and is now the Governor of the RBA would be a good choice. My two-year-old idolises Ben Bernanke and he says when he grows up he wants to be an economist.

That’s the terrible twos for you. When I was that age I would bombard my parents with savvy financial advice and well researched investment opportunities.

It fell on deaf ears. My mother instead squirrelling away money under a mattress in fear. Disillusioned with my wisdom being overlooked, that’s when I turned to hard drugs. First it was rusks. You cannot get a harder drug. Then things got serious. Calpol was my drug of choice. Banned here in Australia but readily available to a kid in the UK with the right contacts and access to a mattress full of money.

Oh Scrag. Listen to your kid. Whatever he tells you to spend your money on, just do it. The ramifications of doing anything else are just too great.

Kids role models are their parents for most part.

You would want to make sure you have your own house in order before bemoaning the behaviour of supposed role models such as an adolescent athlete with party boy looks.

My main concern is that the club ensures Bailey is healthy.

Exactly. Wouldn't go near the stuff in a million years, but plenty of young men (and women) from all walks of life and backgrounds do and that's the reality. Guessing there are some very nervous AFL players this morning hoping they're not caught out next.

if Murdoch dropped dead right now I would buy 6 bottles of champagne and drink them over his dead body. That front page of the HERALD SCUM. is so reckless

People keep saying this. Murdoch’s death won’t change a thing, his son is for all intents and purposes is just the same.

Depends if they have compounded their stupidity by taking photos or allowing them to be taken. It never ceases to amaze.
