I agree with the point but there are probably about 742 other politically correct things we should be doing before we even consider changing the club emblem/nickname.

And what would we change it to? The greyhounds? (They have long snouts but are also selectively bred to be unusual looking dogs - and most greyhounds seem pretty sad, but that's probably because the ones I know are rescued dogs).

No, I'd lean toward calling ourselves The Antechinuses, if for no other reason than we'd have full justification for using the expression FMD. And Scrag could go to town on it.

(Really appropriate name for the professor who is discussing the antechinus BTW.)

It could only be better if his name was Professor Snusnu

Sadly this is just another example of an activist group going for an easy target and low hanging fruit rather than tackling the big issues.

Right now there would be thousands of animals on farms and in backyards across the country that are being abused and mistreated and yet they pick some nonsense symbolic argument with a sporting club about their f****** logo.

Same with those tools who whinge about the Melbourne Cup every year. Do you see them protesting at Flemington in mid July? Course not.

Mouth breathers the lot of them. 🙄
Are they mouth breathers because they can't breathe through their snouty little faces?

It was only a matter of time. Can't stop at Bulldogs;

- Cats promote invasive species decimating native wildlife. Gotta go.

- Saints promote a specific religions iconography in a supposedly secular society. Gotta go.

- Demons and Devils promoting satanism. Gotta go.
I'm always conflicted when the Saints play the Demons. And by conflicted I mean bored.

Robbo set to leave AFL 360; replacement may include Jack Riewoldt, Garry Lyon and/or Jordan Lewis.

Maybe Jackcan bring something new and different but that group doesn’t inspire imo. Hope someone new gets a go just to hear a different viewpoint. I mean if I don’t know Garry Lyons take on something where could I find it? Herald Sun, Fox, SEN?????

Somehow they’ve managed to consider replacements worse than Robbo himself, which is kind of impressive
The new TV deal means that there's a bit of a realignment next year too.

AFL forego a bit of money from C7 to get them to be the proponents of growing the game generally - there's contractual requirements and contra etc for them to reintroduce new additional shows, promos etc (hence why they're going on a big recruiting spree).

Fox is doubling down on being the one-stop shop for footy nuffies with the first 8 rounds of exclusive Saturday coverage, and they get slightly better terms to try and get people to buy Kayo outside of Melbourne, where the up until this year non-Victorian teams got priority coverage on Channel 7. For instance Brisbane and Sydney fans may not have been inclined to buy Kayo because all games are on C7, now, the three games they play in the opening 8 rounds on Saturday will have to be on delay, so there'll be a big push post-GF for local fans of those teams to buy Kayo to not miss those three, non-prime time games to start next year.

Each broadcast cycle both in money and the way that the game is presented changes the nature of the code more than people realise. This will be another.

Yes it now has only a passing resemblance to the game I grew up playing and loving.

Crippled by its own popularity.
Money, the ever-pervasive corrupter of anything good.

Here's a short history of Australian football.
  • Late 19th century: The game becomes popular.
  • The depression years: Very popular.
  • The 1960s after TV arrived: Popularity attracts viewers.
  • 1970s: Colour TV starts to change the way the game is presented to the public.
  • 1980s: Viewers attract more and more cashed up advertisers. Advertising brings in rivers of gold.
  • 1990s: AFL converts from a sporting code to a national big business that just happens to have sport as its main product (but not its only product by any means).
  • 1990s to the present: Money dictates almost every facet of how the game is played, scheduled and administered.
  • 21st century: The media becomes as much the product as the game itself.
  • 2010 to the present: The relentless media coverage attracts power-hungry narcissists like moths to a flame. The only thing left worth watching is the game itself, with the sound turned completely off.

Yes, pretty much. Well said.

Hartlepool United, a professional football team in NE England are nicknamed "the monkey hangers" - Google it (funny story behind it).

What would PETA say to that?

Damn French spies 😡
I lived less than 10 miles from Hartlepool until I was 10, so I’m all across the story 😁

I have been following the Poolies since the late 80’s when they were bottom of Division 4. Had a chance to get in the Championship in early 2000’s but sadly are now in the Conference/National League. Their fans choose a theme (Smurfs, Rastafarians, Where’s Wally. Oompa Loompas etc) and dress up for their last away match of the season and travel from the North East to wherever in fancy dress. NSD (Never Day Die).

I don't mind this from Kane even though I don't entirely agree.
Hopefully this forces Naughton to have a stronger off-season instead galavanting the states for 6 weeks.

Can't agree - with you or Korn.

Naughton played further up the ground to allow Darcy and JUH to play closer to goal. His hard contested work opened up the play for our smaller high and half forwards (even if they weren't always up to it), and contributed to our higher scoring.

He was disappointing in our final, not the Lone Ranger there though. But Spangher (I assume) had far more set structure in our forward line this year, and it worked. To the eye there were less instances of tall forwards competing against each other at the same contest.

Naughton's contract over time will fall back in line to a mid/high tier given its duration. He's not Clayton Oliver, his work ethic will ensure he is a vital cog, and he's only 24 years old.

Jealousy’s a curse.

Naughton didn't manage to finish inside the top 10 of the B&F, which is a reasonable reflection of his year, he was disappointing, whatever his role was.

I can't see any way you could argue with Korns up to this point (the contract is just starting though, long way to go).

Has anyone ever wondered if he could play CHB?

Id say Todd Marshall's contract is worse

How many games did he miss due to injury?

How many votes did he miss top 10 finish by?
