Who do we target in this years draft?

I dont think Darling will go as high as 3 and not too keen on him myself either.

Shame Day doesn't do what some of the Vic metro boys do and just say narr, don't like GC, it's crap I don't wanna go.

from what I have seen and read he would be the bomb for us. Day, Butcher, Boak, Trengove, Bobby, nice spine hey :) Can I dream?

No expert but from what I've heard Darling is probably this years Rich, and I don't think Sam Day even knows what sport he'll play next year.

We'll if we can get him I hope he plays AFl.

Can't blame him chasing the baseball dream though mega $$$$$ there.

I just felt like quoting this to keep it at the bottom of the thread.

I think Darling will go somewhere from 5-10 to be honest, and Day, if he chooses football will go at three. He is exactly what GC need and theres no way they will pass him up after selecting midfielder with their first two picks. They will want the best tall int eh draft, and thats Day.

i hear aker is available, could be a bargain in the pre-season/rookie draft ;)

Could do worse - Aker would = bums on seats and more than a passing interest from the Victorian media!!!!

How do you guys rate your ruck stocks.

Gorringe or Lycett should be available come your first pick (though if I were the GC I'd be taking these two quick). They're both very good SA ruckman, Gorringe being very good.

I'd being eyeing these two at you pick if I were you.

If I was selecting, my list would be something along these lines
Pick 1 : Lycett #1, Midfielder #2 (midfielder to be able to win the contested ball and have pace, be able to break away from the stoppage, simialr to the Judd & Griffen type)
Pick 2 : Midfielder, Best availabe
Pick 3 : Xavier Gotch, Maybe too short to play AFL, but has pace and is good in tight, congested situations.
Pick 4 : Johnathon Giles, Mature age Ruckman
Pick 5 : Jonathon Beech, Wing/HFF, Pacey Midfielder, Smarts, uses the ball well. From all accounts was stiff not to be rookie listed this year by Port.

Gotch and Beech get nods for me as this year's pool is likely to be ravished by GC and both lads will be 20 for the 2011 season so still with 3 years of development within them. They are both Mid's and attacking Mid's at that. Sure if Lycett is gone by our first pick take a midfielder, and if there is still a good young mid at pick #2 jump on him, but later than that go with a youngish midfielder playing seniors in one of the local leauges and doing well. Also O'Harra should be around the mark.

Based on how well Beechy has played for us this year, you'll be very lucky to pick him up round 5. He's still only 19, and has been superb for us this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide have got their eyes on him, he can play anywhere from half back to forward pocket really. A star for the future, I'd prefer it if he stayed in South Australia :D

Try to develop Webb some more as a key position forward. God we've be trying, but unfortunately with our ruck problem (Lobbe injured, Ronaldson back home), we've had to have him pinch hit in the ruck along with Willits (A name many of you should be familiar with.) Webb just needs to put some bulk on. He's a fantastic leap and a great pair of hands. The best things take time to build.

GC17 have 5 very good young ruckmen 200cm + on their list as well as Tippett's brother (who is 198cm)....
So i dont think that they will go with an inexperience ruckman early in this draft (they might get a mature ruckman with AFL experience later in the draft)

Good point. I hear Cloke's AFL ruck experience is highly rated at Port, and we are using him to fast track the development a couple of our young rucks. Any bites ?

i think gorringe over lycett, just because gorringe seems like the most sure thing ruckman ive seen in ages. already playing firsts for norwood all year ( minus sa commitments). although i dont mind us taking lycett either, he sounds promising , i do tend to worry a bit when someone says 200+cm marking tall or mobile tall. he is playing port ressies, anyone actually seen these boys play got any comments??

i also like atley, everything ive heard sounds good, inside and outside player with speed and competitive. i think he would suit us very well. but my absolute fav really is brodie smith. when i first heard he was 188cm mid i though oh broadbent/ moore, dont need. but over the champs he showed he was a clearance machine, and i heard lots of positive talk about him, also did he come 2nd in the larke?? thats big wraps, and im pretty sure all-aust. someone put vision of him on the main d+t board, watch that and you will be a fan. comparisons to judd are spot on, maybe he wont become that good, his kicking looked rushed in some of the footage but his ability to find the ball in tight a burn guys off was amazing. im sold, exactly what ild like to see at port.

my list would be gorringe/ b.smith for first pick, with atley or lycett maybe if the others arnt available. for a 2nd round pick i think alot of the fancied players will be gone but players like sam gray, who is playing firsts for port could be an option he is a winger hff. i thought z.fitzgerald had a great champs as well, he is 192cm kp. solly could go anywhere from 10-40 imo, so could be an option for our 2nd round as well. ild love to find a pick anywhere in the teens to 20's, and have a shot a josh green, or josh caddy. i think a couple of good mids would be available then.

Looks like we may have some draft picks.

If Mots and Krakouer both are considering moves to Perth, we should look seriously at bundling them for the best possible result. Would WCE consider their first draft pick for both of these guys? Could we upgrade our first draft pick by trading Motlop to them?

From a Rookie Draft Perspective, I have been watching Josh Trembath from the Bays a bit (Brother went to school with the kid)

Especially when the WCE can get Krak for SFA in the PSD.
How? Gold Coast pick about a billion times before they do.

I'm not sure where, but it has been posted that GC do not participate in the PSD.

I've found the following

At the end of 2010 season, the club has been given the following concessions:

* The ability to sign one uncontracted player from each of the 16 AFL clubs.
* Zoned access to five Queensland players prior to the AFL draft.
* The first pick in every round plus additional first round picks 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 and 15 of the 2010 AFL Draft.
* The first 10 selections in the Pre-Season Draft.
* The first 5 selections of the Rookie Draft.
* An expanded main list of 48 players (clubs are usually allowed 38).

see here

So unless the player wants to play for Gold Coast, forget the PSD.
