Who do we target in this years draft?

Would it be possible to get a 2nd rounder for Krakour from Freo and a 2nd rounder from WCE for Motlop, would be the best result for the 2 IMO.

We target someone who has a body that slightly resembles a footballer
We target someone that is a Midfielder and then we target another midfielder
If he comes from another state he must be an orphan
We stay away from anyone that has injury concerns, flankers,or poor kicking skills
And then we Pray:thumbsu:

Supposedly the guru of recruiting "rendell" believes no more than 4 picks should be used in this draft.

So we lose Tredrea, Krakouer, Motlop, Carr, Sal, Harding, that makes 6 unless we promote 2.

If we got two 2nd rounders for them both I would try and package Sal and two 2nd round picks for a higher top 10 draft pick, do a three way with GC, we get their pick 9, they receive a player from a Vic club, Vic club gets Salopek and they can fight over the 2 rnd 2 picks.

That leaves us with pick 9, pick 16(?), plus a 2nd round pick.

best mid, Lycett and another midfielder.

But these boys have to play next year, get the games into em straight away.

if i understand it correctly GC already got the 17year olds last year

so a pto p10 pick this year is really the equiv of picks 17-27 in historical drafts?

if this is the case i say we keep the draft picks we have and take pot luck but trade for players

the more i see the draft thing, apart from top 2 its a lottery in the top 15 and then a lottery for between 15-45 and from there, irrelevent. might as well shut the eyes pick up a pen and stab a page.

as long as we dont take in any retreads that we never wanted anyway. shattock, the other guy in that trade, nash, harding, hardly any point was there?

Not sure you can say that about this years top 10 draft. The GC took 12 x 17 year old. Probably 3 or 4 are top 10 picks, David Swallow and Brandon Matera were part of the strong 2009 WA team that won the carnival and both guys made the AA u/18 team as 17 year old. Of the 12 GC kids, 9 are AIS-AFL scholarship holders. 3/4 of AIS kids get drafted.

Of the last 4 drafts
2006 - first 7 picks and 9 of top 11 where AIS kids (Reid @8 and Brown @10 not AIS)
2007 - first 11 picks were AIS kids
2008 - 12 of top 14 were AIS kids (Hill@3 and Davis@10 not AIS)
2009 - 3 of top 4 (Trengove @ 2 not AIS)and 5 of top 10 were AIS kids ( Butcher was - Moore wasn't)

It is the one downside of finishing above the Crows. Especially with clubs more likely to value home grown talent with the new free agency rules etc.

The Crows will get first dibs at a talented South Aussie like Lycett.

Now for the media to play the comparing game of crows taking x and port taking y and the crows trying to justify x when y is playing better.

Wouldn't the Crows take Polec if available?

Hey fellas sorry to intrude over here but thought you may be interested in knowing that you're quite keen on using a later pick on a small fwd named sam crocker from oakleigh (source: in same year at school mates with him)

profile
Sam Crocker (Oakleigh Chargers, Vic)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 12/03/92
Midfielder who can play forward and use his excellent disposal to set up goals. Quick and strong overhead for his size he also makes good decisions with the football. Best player for Oakleigh Charges at the weekend in their match against the Bendigo Pioneers.

Both you and the saints have interviewed him a number of times and seem pretty keen on him for a later pick this year.

Dont get to excited by who Port interview. Port interview more players than any other club. Port will basically interview every player with a national or state invite and then interview players outside this list. They are also likely to interview a heap of players multiple times. It is really only those kids that get interviewed in the last week before the draft that you can really take anything out of who they are interviewing.

i hope he's not one of those distressed hair hero's though. this world has enough of them

good luck with your team too in finals

Feel free to email away mate and appreciate the good wishes for the finals

His skills in general are extremely good and he can boot it an absolute mile witnessed it more than enough times. Huge vertical leap also.
However with the good his endurance is not great and he will need to bulk up significantly before he gets a game at whatever club he ends up playing for. Definetely a later pick for most likely you guys or the saints and will need time to develop. If he works as hard as he can he will became a very good player, likely to play a role along the lines of someone like a didak at collingwood.

Cheers for that mate!

From memory, we didnt even speak to either Moore or Pittard too much before we picked them, until sometime in the last week or so prior to the draft.

Will be interesting to see what happens!

He sounds like the type of player we should certainly look to pick up with a later pick.

Our trades and best couple of picks should be used on 1 ruckman and 2 mids IMO, with the priority being to get high quality mids first. Thereafter, I would rate another Hitchy or Robbie style crumbing/clever small forward as being the next target.

Others will disagree, and I realise that there is still enough doubt over our key forwards to look at this also.

thank goodness!!

it means he hasnt devoted his entire teenage life to football and has plenty of upside
unlike these headcases that breathed AFL from the age of 4 and have hammy and knee reco's at the age of 16.
apart from his haircut i like that leap
i know he's a mate and all but do yourself a favour and restrain yourself from mentioning him in a sentence with ANY other AFL player, esp an AA or didak.

as for bulk. can i rmake reference to PAFC history of squirts. wanga, banner, hitchcock, krakouer, davenport, j westhoff.

thats no problem

Yep, it is a cop out.

For example, we don't need more flankers.

Hmm no different to Mark Mclure on AFL 360 last night, Port has noone interested in it, Crowds don't attend games, Crowds don't come to FINALS. hmmm been awhile since we made finals wasn't it?
