Who Should Be In The Hall Of Fame, and Who Should Be A Legend?

Nah, not buying it. When Josh Kennedy or Fev kick 150 a season in the league, I am buying it,

It's all relative, the Coleman was won by guys that kicked 100+ most years around that time.

Coventry had the record at the time of 124 in a season until Pratt beat it.

Remembering he kicked 138 in the regular season, he notched the 150 in finals.

Kennedy and Fev were both close to if not the best FF in the league for an extended period of time.

Pratt wasn't clearly the best FF in his era either, he won 2 x Colemans, Coventry won 6, Jack Titus and Ron Todd were very comparable.

Pratt only kicked 70+ in 3 seasons. Coventry did it 10 times as an example.

Looking at it, Ted Whitten is the only recognised defender (Even he moved forward and won 4 x Footscray leading goal kicking awards) as a legend. Big Nick was named in the BP in the AFL TOTC but he was more of a ruckman. Murray was named on the back flank in the AFL TOTC.

Personally think SOS and Doull should probably be considered along with Carey, Ablett Snr and Dunstall. There needs to be more defenders.
Doull, yes, absolute legend. Did not realise he was not already on that status in hall of fame.
I'd have Doull and Flower legends before even consider SOS and Dunstall.
I just think legend status should not be easily given out. Just being a champion in itself is not automatic in my eyes but the criteria maybe different to what I think a legend should be. Maybe if we are still talking about likes of Carey, SOS and Dunstall in 30 years time they should be legends because if they long known after they stopped playing by generations that never seen them, they seem like genuine legends. Certainly names like Hayden Bunton, John Coleman, Barassi etc were big names in football, long long after they stopped playing which gave me an idea how good they were. Legends of the game!!!!

Potentially controversial opinion, but I think there are already far too many official legends with 28 players currently having this title.

In contrast, Australian rugby league has the equvalent "immortal" status with only 13 inductees. That club seems to be alot more exclusive with only players with genuinely spectacular records included.

I mean, would Roy Cazaly be considered a legend if it wasn't for the folklore induced by the Mike Brady song? Only has 2 club best and fairest's and 2 club leading goalkicker awards.

Agree, and if the rule is Legends capped at 10% of inductees, it just keeps bloating over time?

It all means fu** all, every campaigner and their dog is in there. It's an embarrassment that they f’ed an easy concept up so badly.

I agree. The Hall of Fame concept was a great one until they kept adding everyone and anyone and cheapened it. There are way too many people in it for it to be worth a damn.

Bob Davis was a great player, no doubting that
But was he far superior to Lou Richards?

Davis 189 games 149 goals 47 career Brownlow votes
Richards 250 games 423 goals 54 career Brownlow votes even though for 5 seasons no votes awarded due to WW2.
Just because Richards had such a stella media career and often acted the clown, it doesn’t mean his terrific accomplishments as a player are lessened.
Lou Richards was a rover but managed over 400 goals when resting up forwards. Not a Legends quality player perhaps, but nevertheless he was a star.

Richards isnt in Collingwood's Team of the Century is he?

Lenny Hayes and Jonathan Brown out of the way so far
Leaves Dean Cox, Nick Maxwell and Luke Ball from the 2015 retirements.

Who else will we get this year?

Bit of talk over here today about Greg Phillips

You are not serious about Greg Phillips are you?

Not unworthy of selection one day, but not ahead of McIntosh, Aish, Cunningham, Graham or Lindner. Cue whingeing from Port supporters.

Do not disagree, would also add Tom Leahy and Andrew Jarman to that list
Not sure that I agree that Jarman should be in ahead of him. Not in a position to comment on Tom Leahy. Others I would include are Keith Thomas, Tim Evans and Fred Phillis. Kym Hodgemen would also be another to add to the list.

Others that should also be considered:
Ken Eustice
Grant Fielke
Bo Morton
Bob Shearman
Chris McDermott
Bill Mayman
Frank Golding
Dick Head
Peter Darley
Sampson Hosking
Michael Redden
David Marshall
Anthony Daly
Ralph Sewer
Peter Vivian
Michael Taylor
Neville Hayes

Ok, I’ll say it, what the heck does McIntosh need to do to be in the Footy Hall of Fame ?.

Bickley wouldn’t last 2 minutes playing on Macca.

It is a record that exceeds many already in the Hall of Fame:
336 games, 165 goals
12 games for South Australia
5 games for Australia (Int. Rules)
3x Fos Williams Medal (BOG for SA)
2x Premiership player
Norwood Team of the Century (Half Forward Flank)
Won 2x Magarey Medals (during AFL era)

Ah.

Impressive CV, but the knock on him would be playing 8 seasons in the SANFL after the Crows joined the AFL. SANFL, WAFL, VFA/VFL accolades in the 90s don't hold the same prestige as they did in previous decades.

Stephen Michael played 243 WAFL games and won 5 B&Fs. He is a legend of WA footy. Travis Edmonds played 262 and also won 5 B&Fs. Great Swan Districts man but no one is ever going to call for his inclusion in the AF HOF. Eras are important.
