Correct. Opinions and any semblance of speaking your mind are for poo poo heads.
So do you think everyone in our club should freely speak all their opinions in public at all times?

Like I previously said, I applaud his honesty simply on principal. But I don’t think his actions in this situation shows good leadership.

If you are a leader you are speaking for more than yourself when being a representative of your organisation.

Sometimes being a good leader is not sharing your personal opinion.

Regardless it’s of not major consequence and not an instance I’m fussed about. I simply contest the assertion by DERO that it was good leadership.

Good leadership is standing up for what is right. However what you feel isn’t always right and doing it in public is often not the best way to do it for your team.

I don’t think even Zach right now on reflection would consider that a moment of good leadership.
Or maybe he has heard more information than we have from his sources at the club that has worried him and the others that played under Hird and wanted to get his and the collectives voices heard. If that's the case, that's good, front-foot leadership.

id agree with both but in the bigger picture how often do we hear about other clubs players wanting this or that?

is it a byproduct of the saga era that our players have special needs and feel they are allowed to voice them?
This is a special case. No other club has gone through what this club has. It makes sense that you'd hear what a member of the playing staff who played under Hird had to say.

why you keep dragging me into this shitshow?

I love Hird, his hair is ****ing amazing

It would be so much easier on all of us if they just shut the club down and we can all go for someone else.

I'd go for tassie are they getting a team? They could have our license.

The media have hung merrett out to dry and let the nuffies feast. The comments he made, were last week before he even knew that hird would actually be involved in the process, he also said he’d back anyone who became coach. For someone who was actually inside the 4 walls during 2014-2015 he’s allowed his opinion.

You're a good Essendon man.

Once bitten, twice shy. Media are grubs and they will be like seagulls after a chip at the moment.

Anything said can be twisted into an attention grabbing headline. Merrett's heart probably sunk when he saw the headline.

That actually makes it completely different then. He might have genuinely been under the impression Hird wouldn't apply for the job. I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

If it turns out this is a collective and agreed opinion of the whole playing group and they feel that the Hird media machine needs a public response which was the cause of Merrett's comments, then yes that would be good leadership.

Do you think that was the case?

You're a good Essendon man.

Your response lacks #backin and is therefore lacking in leadership.
You're right. I need to take a good hard look at myself.

But if Jimmy can #comeback from mistakes like he is, then I'll use that as inspiration to try myself.

Essendon needs me.

They need my money so they can have heated change room bench seats because it will make the players play better.

The players need my sponsorship money because they cannot afford to buy extra ankle strapping.

The team needs me to unconditionally cheer them and boo the opposition.

I apologise, I'll try to do better.
