'Pre tenders'.... who won a flag 13 months ago....

If a club is a 'Pre Tender' if they 'con tend' but fail to win the flag, what does that make Carlton, given they do neither?

Are they just a 'chicken tender', feasted on by the real teams in the competition, who are regularly there when the whips are cracking?
fancy fluking a flag only to get back to where Collingwood belong - middling nuffies in Mexico

They fluked two flags, if the ball had've bounced the right way for Stevie Milne in 2010 Saints win that one.

Here we go another Carlton thread with some of the usual suspects.
This thread is brought to you by the numbers 1, and 4, and thank you to our sponsor Fadge for continuing to provide information ad-nauseaum about the Carlton football club in every possible thread.

I actually love that the Blues are the first thing they think of every day.

and yet here they are "bragging' about their 3 flag wins in 60 years...calling themselves a 'powerhouse club'

wat a bunch of dreary drongos.

Let's talk about all of Carlton's recent flags... fluked or not.

And the conversation endeth there.

Maybe we can talk about all their recent near misses, where they genuinely contended?

Nope. Nothing to talk about there either.

Oh well.
That's what we call in the industry a No You.

Yeah we 'fluked' a couple, but when you put yourself in so many close big finals you are bound to finally get a 'fluke' win.

2022 PF - a 1 point 'fluke' loss on the back of a gift of a goal to Papley
2019 PF - a 4 point 'fluke' loss after having more scoring shots and inside 50s
2018 GF - a5 point 'fluke' loss on the back of a clear shepherd on Maynard not paid.

Normal Pies style - three 'fluke' losses before we finally get a 2023 GF 'fluke' win. It was a fluke despite the Pies dominating play, having 9 more scoring shots, 7 more marks inside 50 and the Lions having 6 more frees.

Why bother going the Collingwood approach and consistently playing in GFs and PFs, much better being Carlton and just hoarding top5 draft picks and imagining what the future might bring.

Blues about as relevant these days as the Ottoman Empire, living off ancient forgotten glories

Its odd that Fudgey hasn't been bumping his gluck gluck thread for his golden boy since he got flogged in the Brownlow...

Oh well back to pretending that the Cooked Pies are any chance of doing anything next year I guess 😂

Shame he's too much of a custard gut to put his money where is his mouth is and back his claims up with something tangible!

Motreal Canadiens the Habs are the more apt sporting comparison.

Like Carlton, they were the big hockey team in the 20th century, and had a purple patch where won they won 10 Stanley Cups in a 20 odd year run from 1965 to 1986.

Enter the 1990s and the Habs were up there with Yankees, Lakers, Celtics as the big sporting teams in professional North American sports.

But they last saluted in 1993 and since then have only made one Stanley Cup finals, which they lost, and are a middling to mediocre team now.

I bet they have crusty old Habs fans spamming message boards about how they have won 10 Stanley Cups in the last 60 years too

10 Stanley Cups in 6 odd decades, juicy

8 to 3 in last 6 odd decades would suggest otherwise
You're not some Hawthorn stats nerd, cut out the maths.

Are you the best? We've won more games than anyone, won more finals, finished top the most and no one has won more flags.

It's a point of immense pride for all three clubs on 16 flags, don't get stasnerdy, it's demeaning.

Maths and analysis in this thread? Good luck

So now back chest puffing

Perhaps a nudge to your own supporters that prefer to engage in a specific timeline but get salty when rebutted using similar tactics

So back to these threads and the polling question, Carlton better in 2024, 2025 ?

Pretty familiar aint it.

A former powerhouse that is now mediocre.

A few crusty old Baggers think being good back in the 1970s is important.

2024 - Pies once again beat Carlton in both games and Carlton went backwards from their 21st century peak of 5th that they managed in 2023.

The only timeline that matters to anyone living is "modern", and in modern times they're on the bottom with Gold Coast

may as well say "naaah 'modern' started in 2024 - anything older than that is irrelevant - stick that up you pipedreams"
