It really is pathetic that our record in Adelaide is so bad that few of our supporters are confident that we can beat Port. Port has been absolutely woeful this year apart from the Crows game.
If we cannot beat Port convincingly next week there is no hope for the Hawks in 2011.

We are far from certain. There is no hope for the Hawks in 2011 with Clarko at the helm and our lack of work ethic.

absolutely agree! Needs to be 50pts plus or our year is gone. The Hawks need to stop being so hesitant and hit targets consistently. Surely we must smash this wooden spoon contender Port.

Would be happy for Pops and Whitecross to come in, but not sure on Lisle unless they move Roughie back, which can;t see happening.

perhaps Smith instead of lisle then? but we need a tall

does anyone know how schoenmakers is going in the BH game being played at this very moment? i cant get the internet radio broadcast going.

Reading the reports on the Box Hill/ Werribee game it appears that the young guys missed the chance to demand a game in the firsts. Lowden seems to have gone OK. I look forward to reading further posts shortly.

Adam Simpson b4 the Geelong game was asked about Smith & Pup.

He said that Smith "Might get a spot in the next 2 weeks"

Make that what you will.

Personally i'de drop Lewis & Ellis.=Pup & Bruest

Lewis lollypopped every kick last week, head space really wasnt into the game &
he really looks sloppy out there.
Ellis seems quite happy to be the plodder.
Anyone that runs through a banner b4 a Geelong game laughing and joking with
Sewell with a substitute vest on, really explained a very poor game.

I can kind of understand where you are coming from but really these guys are human and are allowed to have a chuckle before the game. For all we know it could have been game related. If they were doing it during the game or in the huddle at 3 quarter time then maybe but before a game it's a non issue.

But on Smith, I'd like to see him get a game. Sure he hasn't done a lot for Box Hill but I feel with quality mids around him he will shine and provide some extra run and carry for us.

Pup I'm hopeful to see run out against Port, has been good for Box Hill and has great pace.

Future inclusions to consider for us would be Shoenmakers (if he can get himself match fit and performing), Lisle, Lowden (based off his form from todays game). We do have some depth but we haven't really given many of those playrs a chance on the big stage because we seem to reluctant to omit players.

Did Essendonds youngsters or Collingwoods youngsters tear it up in the VFL ? Just curious.

I'm a bit over the whole "well their not tearing it up in the VFL" as an excuse to except the mediocrity some players dish up in our Seniors.

I'm firmly of the belief that youngsters should be given consistent game time in our Seniors to see if they can rise to the level ... just like we did with Roughy and Buddy.

I'd rather carry youth and potential, rather than a 2008 premiership star who has gone backwards.

Firstly, I think we will get up by about 10 points, but Westoff & Ebert must be licking their lips waiting for us to play them back into form.
  • I am going to assume that Schoey will be fit;
  • I think Laddo has been reasonable this year when rebounding (not defending) but I don't think we can play he, Sucko & Goo. Sucko stays; &
  • We need at least 2 or 3 small / mid sized forwards - playing forward...
Outs: Ins:
Cyril - injury Popeye
Bruce - injury Lisle
Goo - omitted Schoey
Laddo - omitted (tough though) Bruest

FB: Popeye Gilham Gibbo
HB: Birchall Lisle Sucko
Ce: Savage Mitchell Young
HF: Shiels Franko Burger
FF: Bruest Roughy Schoey
Foll: Hale Sewell Hodge
I/C: Renouf Ellis Lewis
Sub: Bateman

* I have highlighted Roughy / Lisle as I wouldn't mind seeing them swap, at least for 1/4.

Our game plan, implemented to assist our defence, is IMO killing them. Our lack of mid pressure & any kind of forward line, means our forward thrusts are inept & the ball travels from our end to theirs far too quickly & under minimal pressure. Our backline doesn't get swamped by 'big forwards' as we may have done in the past. IMO we sturggle for 2 reasons:
1) We lack a tall which means 2 or 3 of us fly to each 1 of their talls; & more importantly
2) We don't clear the high ball when it goes to ground because we have nobody to kick it to when running it out.
FFS, of the league's 5 big forwards worth worrying about, we have 2; & of the others, J. Brown isn't a huge threat; & neither is Roo in the Saints' current form.

IMO we need to give the defenders 1 tall to rally around (Lisle/Rough - whoever) & then give them what they want - that being someone to bloody well kick it to, holding position around the middle of the ground; & then at least 5 guys in the forward half, all of them looking at the ball carrier instead of running toward a loose ball as it flies over their heads & into a nest of opponents...

Re: This shit has to stop.

Regarding people wanting Breust to come into the side, since he is on the rookie list and not on the senior list, don't we have to wait until mid-season to then nominate as the other rookie who can play?
Since Milne had to be nominated, he is eligible to play, but I don't think that any of the other players on the rookie list are available for selection.

Lisle is a long way off it, as is Schoenmakers and Bruest on todays form.

I can't see Guerra being omitted.
Roughead isn't going to move away from the Forward line for any specific role other than to drift up the ground and then back into the forward half.

Puopolo is a certainty to debut.

Ins: Osborne Whitecross Puopolo

Outs: Bruce (Inj) Rioli (Inj) Ladson

EMG: Cheney Ellis Lisle

Rioli is a 50/50 chance. Even if available i don't think it's worth the risk of him making the trip to Adelaide. Get him ready for St Kilda @ the MCG :)

Thanks for the feedback re today's game.

We have 2 forced changes G, who else would come in with Popeye?

WX, maybe Ossie?

Since X.Ellis played last game, he would need to be omitted to become an emg.

With the form of Suckling and the obvious knowledge that WX can't play forward and ossie can, Ossie will be more likely to come in.
But with Murphy not playing for BH yesterday, despite desperately needing the run, he will play this friday.

Not what i want but:
Ins: Puopolo, Ossie, Murphy

Outs: Rioli (inj and being saved), Bruce (Inj) and Ladson/Ellis (omit)

Emg: Lisle, Whitecross, Ladson/Ellis

Alot will depend on the Box Hill game this weekend. If Puopolo keeps his recent form up, I'd expect to see him in the side. Issac Smith is coming along nicely but should be considered very unlikely to play. Michael Osborne could be back from injury aswell.

Cameron Bruce is an obvious out due to injury. Rioli may also miss.

At this point I'd have it at...

In
Osborne, Puopolo

Out
Bruce, Rioli

Re: This shit has to stop.

I was merely highlighting that alot of players thrown 'into the fire' have done well this year adding another level to their teams.

We've brought Shiels, Savage and Suckling in from the start.

Puopolo almost certain against Port. Smith and perhps Milne not far behind.

All in good time.

Regardless of the actual team, I just hope Clarko takes a hard line approach with them this week. Adelaide is a one hour flight and Port are terrible...I mean they are an absolute rabble.

There is absolutely no excuse not to win and win well this week. Have them fired up and ready to play 4 solid quarters of hard football. No turning to marshmallows because we are in Adelaide.

If we want to maintain any credibility as a serious top 4-6 team, we have to be ruthless and efficient this week.

Throw this into the mix -

Ins: Poupolo, Lowden, Smith (sub)

Outs: Bruce, Rioli, Ellis

We know Pops deserves a crack, Lowden has all the makings of a star and could easily rotate off the bench into forward or ruck (or sub even?) and a impact player for the bench or sub...:thumbsu:
