Banter Why do you hate Carlton?

I actually find their supporters at games far more annoying than on BigFooty.

Funny, because it's usually the other way around for me (North, for example; no issue at the game, but on this site I can't stand them).

I didn't mind North supporters at games until round 1 this year. After the siren went the North supporter sitting in front of me wanted me to take my glasses off so he could punch me.

I hate them because of their supporters. I actually dont mind some of their players and find them entertaining to watch play. Having said that i despise carlton for their supporters attitudes, which is entirely different from why i hate other teams such as hawks (hate the players, coach and supporters) and pies (again their supporters but for different reasons to the blues).

I HATE Carlton because as a club they represent nothing which is admirable or worthy of respect. At every time through out their history, they have cheated, lied, and spread deceit to advance their chance of success. They are the Pedophiles of the AFL, who will try to sweet talk the league up front then fukc them when their their back is turned. They supporters have even a lower moral compass than their players and administrators (Have to have the most criminally charged group) in that they refuse to believe that they've done nothing wrong? To win wooden spoons to get priority picks shows the level to which this grovelling group of worms stoop to for success. They should of been sold off as bankrupt to another state until a corrupt business owner put his dirty money in and then to purchase a player who would sell his soul to the highest bidder, in the most disgusting financial arrangement ever dis vised in AFL history, just shows their contempt for all that that this this Nation stands for. They are just scum, maggots and filth; and will ultimately get their just rewards when Karma comes back and hits them ten fold. They are Carlton, and I will always Hate them.

This isnt enough time in this lifetime to describe the reasons why I hate Carlton. Let me distill it into two simple words: Greg Williams.

I was there when he told a 8 year old Carlton fan in a Blues jumper, who asked for an autograph, to "**** off". Me and the boys father stood slack-jawed in disbelief that a human being could behave like that. He is scum.

Have to reluctantly agree. Had the fortunate opportunity to join in post '95 premiership celebrations at a large corporate - held up the Premiership Cup with Brad Pearce (I never got to see the photo:(). Spoke to a number of the players - had a great chat with Brad Pearce (great young bloke), Dean Rice and Michael Sexton in particular. Went to talk to GW - told him he played a great game and he just glared, grunted and looked away from me! Maybe he was just shy, or maybe he didn't like to waste time talking to people he didn't rate? Have to say though, brilliant player - a machine.

Incidentally, met a bloke a little while ago at a non-footy related function and said to him: "You look a lot like like Sean Denham the bloke who used to play for Essendon!" He smiled and said, "Yes - I am Sean Denham!" He was keen to continue to talk to me and then he asked if I was an Essendon supporter. I told him I was a mad Carlton supporter - he looked very disappointed (clearly not a Carlton lover) and moved on!

Great thread by the way - congrat's to Howard Moon; some great laughs! Why do I hate the Bombers? Well, it's not "hate" really, it's just that I, well, I guess you could perhaps say that.., well, I just really, really, really, really don't like them all that much! Geez, got that off my chest!:D

Anyway, Carrrrrrrlton by 37 today - points that is, not goals!:D

Immoral, cheating, weasly, mercenary, disloyal, apathetic, overrated, dirty, corrupt, smug, one dimensional, flogwit.

And that's just the Captain.
So true Kaiser, what a **** he is

As you have indicated a stated preference for logical discussion I will ignore the gratuities and deal with your "argument". You say, undoubtedly with history on your side, that once upon a time Carlton were "raging hot favourites" against Essedon and lost. You say there was some lesson that ought to have been "learnt" from this past surprising loss.

You do not specifically state what the lesson is but presumably something along the lines of "Carlton supporters should never think that the Blues might thrash Ess". To state your implied "lesson" is to ridicule it. Any predictive statement from the highly probable "Carlton will win by 50 points or more" down to the highly improbable "Essedon will beat Carlton" might, or might not, happen. In each instance it is one person's "best guess". No one pretends a "guess" is some sort of mathematical proof. Hence, no one is "proved wrong" by the fact that the guessed result is incorrect.

A useful example of this (from your point of view) is the 1999 preliminary final. No Essedon supporter was "proved wrong" in their estimate that the bombers were the best team that year. That Carlton won by a point does not disprove the estimate - one I agreed with at the time and still do. The better side does not always win, even if they are significantly better.

Finally, the unhappy occasion you recall with evident pleasure (keep sucking on it I say) is counterbalanced by more recent events (like the last 2 times our sides played) in which, were there to be "a lesson" for Carlton supporters to learn, it would be to enjoy watching the match expecting a decent flogging of the bombers.

Christ, we're going back to the previous millennium are we?

The here and now is infinitely more exciting, in which Carlton's elite team of fancy men were embarrassed by a bunch of VFL-grade players. That is a vastly more relevant topic at this point in time, methinks.
