Why do you hate Collingwood?

Thanks, I like the Nelson Mandela quote! Oh, and I agree...Beams will be a gun!

Lol, nice try but MLK repeated the phrase "I have a dream..." numerous times throughout his speech. He stated the quote which you wrote in your post as well as the following:

"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood."

Still don't believe me? Try researching it, or I'll make it easier for you and just give you a link of his speech instead.

No need to look it up - that sounds pretty much spot on

But why quote the sexist bit (however it was in context when MLK said it) when you could've gone for the "children" bit? You could've said "not be judged by the colour of their jumper but by the content of their character."

As for Nelson Mandela, he's got a wealth of great quotes. Had the pleasure to briefly meet the great man about 16 years ago when he was in Melbourne, unfortunately was in my teens so didn't fully appreciate it.

1. McGuire
2. Buckley
3. The arrogance of Pie fans during finals series. Not really on this board, but people you see.

I don't hate them as much as Carlton or Essendon.

1. Kennedy
2. Brown
3. The arrogance of Hawk fans all the time - even when not in finals series'. On this board, and people you see.

I hate them more than Carlton, but not as much Essendon.

Don't know why I chose that section from his speech, first thing that came to my mind I guess. I quite like how you adapted another one of his quotes to "not be judged by the colour of their jumper but by the content of their character." Very clever! I like it more than my adaptation by far!

Also, I cannot believe that you were able to meet Nelson Mandela! Shame that you didn't fully appreciate it though. He does have a plethora of amazing and inspirational quotes, I would love to meet him someday!

I think some Collingwood supporters are getting a little defensive.

I'll give you the same advice I gave to my GF when she asked me if her arse looks fat in a pair of jeans.

Never ask a question you don't want to know the answer to. ;)

They get a unusual amount of media coverage despite achieving almost nothing in 50 years.

I don't hate them though, I don't really have a reason to with my club being more successful and with a better head to head record. They have beaten us in a few finals though, but I did enjoy the 07 SF in extra time, it was a ripper.

Hate to get off topic but it seems like a very high proportion of Hawks fans (especially on BF) have nothing positive to say about any other team or player. There are a few on BF that are sensible but you can almost bet with your life that on almost every thread there will be a smart arse hawks supporter having a crack at something / someone.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand...the world does not revolve around Collingwood. Get over it Pies fans...1 flag in 50 years gives you nothing to boast about :D

I think he's suggesting someone from a club that has played in 7 PF's & lost 4 of them in their entire history is a bit rich to poke fun at others for their record in PF's.

Collingwoods record in Preliminary finals is very good, I was merely suggesting that rather than singing the "Premiership is a cakewalk", singing the "Preliminary is a cakewalk" would make a lot more sense and be far more accurate from a historical point of view. And we know how good you Pies supporters are with ancient history.

I'm not sure how who I support changes that fact

Ah well, at least they have an original theme song instead of copying it from the Americans. I'm not sure "As the Saints come marching in" was particulary apt (as you say the cakewalk) when they were collecting spoon after spoon after spoon. There is some irony in that most clubs who have this theme song are abject failures in their relative competitions.

The Panther's got it right, Falchoon. And it the team you support changes the context, not the fact. It's like a Saints fan taunting Collingwood fans about anything to do with finals and success. Or like a Collingwood fan having a dig at Carlton/Essendon about winning flags.

The general perception of Collingwood supporters is that they have huge chips on their shoulders, they have delusions that the rest of the league fears them for whatever reason, they think the football world revolves around their club, they have fans that obviously revel in their reputation of being scumbags etc.

Having said that, most of the people I know personally who support Collingwood are nothing like that. So, I don't think there's any personal hatred for them. When I was growing up, I really couldn't have cared less about them, compared to any other team. I think a lot of the animosity has resurfaced since Eddie took over at the helm and I think the general consensus is that he's done an outstanding job in his time. He's brought back a lot of the "us against the world" mentality. The fallout from that is there will be a lot of opposition supporters who hate your club and take special delight whenever they fail. I don't think I'm one of them.

One thing I don't understand is people who like to cut off history when they see fit. I like history, and the past, and the way people thought and acted. History as far back as a few years. And I don't understand why history becomes redundant. It's almost like saying, right, we only count flags from the past 50-years, so, in 2009, the 1959 GF is the start of the process, and next year, it is cut from relevance.

I don't understand why people bag others based on their history, if we gave a shit we wouldn't have barracked for them in the first place ;)

On a per capita basis, they have less supporters who actually know the game than any other club. Go to local footy clubs around your city/town... (ie people who actually play the game, know what the game's about and have a clue about footy club culture), Collingwood supporters are much fewer and far between in these circles than any other area within society.

Yet they somehow think they are priviledged in AFL circles.

Quite true. But it's inevitable.

OK then, history says you struggle to beat the AFL's worst performed team in finals, almost a 3-1 ratio in home and away, but less than 33% in finals, why is that? :)

I hate Collingwood pretty much cause of the fans, but they are on a par with Carlton as just absolute ferals.. That being said every team has them, there just seems to be more from Collingwood/Carlton..

- I also hate the constant 'this is our year' mentality
- the fact that they massively overrate average players to a sickening point
- can't lose gracefully, its always the umpires fault or 'we weren't 100%'
- The fact they believe they are 'targeted' unfairly by the AFL
- Think they are above other clubs (the jumper thing with North)
- Fake superstars (Thomas, Didak e.t.c) talked up endlessly
- The Herald Sun newspaper which is basically Collingwood propaganda
- We have won 'X' amount of flags.. who cares, how many have you seen? how have you gone in recent time?

justs a few.. can't be bothered to think about it more..
