I was there because my brother and nephews are St Kilda members :p

Those supporters talking about 'the 12 point turn around', what about the 2 gifted goals the Hawks received in the last quarter to get you up by 12 points?

Gilbert tackled, boot to ball = Holding the ball
Duddy Franklin, Dawson hardly touched him = Free kick  oh and he misses so we'll give him 50 metres :thumbsu:

6 point turnaround.

Hawthorn had the chance to spoil Volt and were unable to do so. that's not due to the free kick, just poor defending. But not as bad as letting a lumbering 10 ft ruckman waltze into an open goal.

If the guy on page 1 of this thread is legit then the decision is OK and it was just a Whitecross / Birchall stuff up.

Agree :thumbsu:

Regardless if there is an error the result will not change. Umpires make mistakes all the time and do not alter results based on that.

If Jeff Gieschen comes out and says that it's not the umpires fault like when he tends to protect umpires, then only one decision needs to be made. Gieschen gets the axe.

Dawson thought it was a good time to hold his hand and go for a walk in the park and then someone (Schnider?) thought it was a good idea to try and smother his set shot....from the side. The bad calls went both ways.

As others have said, if we find out that it was a wrong call then I say take to to the AFL and do everything in your power, if not then drop it.

What does it matter?

The Hawks are playing as well as any team and everyone knows this side plays 20-30% in September. No one has a chance when we turn it on for real.

I think I'm the only Hawthorn supporter that's blase about this thing cos as far as I'm concerned the 2pts are akin to 4pts anyway. It almost completely eliminates % from the equation in our bid to climb the ladder and get a top4 spot (which is all i care about).

Given our lackluster total of 107.7% compared to the doggies 133.47% and the Dockers 118.87% (who are our targets above us) 2pts effectively puts us 2 aggregate wins behind both of them (providing the dogs beat the dockers tomorrow) which is as good a scenario as we could have hoped for even had we won.

I just don't think it's worth dwelling on and getting distracted by. We have a good month coming up (PORT ADELAIDE, SYDNEY, MELBOURNE, FREMANTLE) and I genuinely think that we can go through the rest of the season without loss which would give us a legitimate crack at top 4 and therein a real tilt at the flag.

Chins up. It's good times at the HFC.

It was a bloody good game for starters, could've gone either way. I was shattered with the result but it doesn't come down to one bad umpiring decision, or this infringement. Hawks kicked 13.9 to saints 14.3 so a bit more accuracy is something to think about boys!

I would also like to point out the individuals who are posting on here and their respective teams. First we have all the hawks and saints supporters which is fair enough coz the game was theirs, Second we've got the likes of Richmond, North Melbourne and West Coast....honestly guys you have no hope at finals so start worrying about your own teams, Finally there's supporters of Geelong, Fremantle, Western Bulldogs (and Collingwood i think but don't quote me on that =p)...you guys should be worried about what hawks are gonna do in finals regardless of what happens with this and where we finish. In other words, watch your backs coz we're gonna be fired up come September!!

I was sitting right next to the bench tonight in the 2nd row... and I was watching as it happened and before the emergency came out I said to my mate the sh1t is about to hit the fan.

Ch7 just showed Whitecross coming off and Birchall going on... but about 5-10sec before that Whitecross was about 1m on the field asking if he should come off.

Birchall wasn't paying attention and jut ran on the ground (as a lot of changes were happening) before getting called to come back off.

Then Whitecross came off and Birchall replaced him.

IMO it was 100% the correct decision.

It's a ridiculous penalty though. How many times in the last 10 years has there actually been too many players on the ground? I remember 1 from memory. Seriously can't believe a player coming onto the field when the player coming off is only a meter away is such a big deal.

Typical knee jerk, over officiating by the AFL.

Interesting article on the hawks website about the interchange penalty. Not interesting for the penalty but interesting in that it talks about the Hawks' recent run of good form and says the last 10 games have '...included impressive performances against premiership fancies Collingwood, Geelong, Western Bulldogs and St Kilda.'

Personally I've already forgotten the last game against Collingwood, not one of our best moments of the year and not worth comparing to the games against Geelong, St. Kilda or the Bulldogs. Can't wait to play them again in round 22 and make things right with the world again.

I think I get what you're saying.

Because the council oval in Buninyong is pretty shoddy, it doesn't matter what the state of the surface is at Etihad.

Is that your point?
I just think clubs should look at themselves rather than blame a grounds surface that causes injurys.Im a believer in the more you fine tune the human body,The more of a chance of an injury occuring.Look at the days when we played at the mudheap at morrabbin,Vic park,Western oval etc.I realise the game is alot faster etc these days however IMO the sole reason Injurys didn,t happen as often back then was that the Players body was far more "Less Tight"[can,t think of the proper term] than what they are now.

fast forward 12 months.

GC is 1/2 a game out of the finals... THE AFL WILL reverse the decision.

frankly it doesn't care about StK or Hawks, they are both comfortably financially and not really target areas or basket cases.

I have no doubt the AFL does its best to manipulate the situation to maximise revenue.
