Don't GC have a pick before Carlton?

Otherwise why wouldn't the Dees take Martin?
Don't think GC will use a pick on a player against their will.

Salary cap room.

what if they dont and they rejected 15 and martin for 9
It was more than that, they also wanted next year's 2nd rounder. Do you think he's worth that?

I think North should be commended for what they got done with a skeleton crew. The whole club is transitioning and the Melbourne trade was very smart, moved all the draft cache to next year when we'll have more players out of contract and a better understanding of our list and with Brady Rawlings in command.

The pick swap with Melbourne was a very nice move, can't see that trade not ending up a big win.

Geelong lose Tim Kelly... gain a mentally broken Jack Steven and Josh Jenkins.. yet win... lol..... ok

After removing 37 and 58, both of which came in and went out again, Geelong's total trade period was....

Out:
T.Kelly, Z.Smith
2020: R3 (52)

In:
J.Steven, J.Jenkins
2019: 14, 24
2020: R1 (14), R3 (37)

(Future picks based on positions this year for eagles and suns)

Adelaide also paying part of Jenkins salary.

May lose Daniher for less in the future.

Gave up 2x 1st rounders offered for an injury prone player.
Let'ss break that down.

They offered pick 9 in a weak draft (which they don't have) which won't even likely get us the mid or forward we seek and a future first in a weak, heavily compromised draft with a million players tied to academy.

I'd rather keep Daniher.

My ladder for the trade period

  1. Stk- did the impossible and got all their targets
  2. Bulldogs- strengthened both ends of the field without selling the farm
  3. Freo- made the most of hill's move
  4. Cats- got a boat load of picks to refresh a strong but aging list
  5. Eagles- got their man but paid the price
  6. North- didn't do a heap but got bonar cheap and a nice swap of pick with the see a
  7. brisbane- swap of fringe players
  8. gws- lost injury plagued players and freed up cash in the process but brought in nothing to take the step further
  9. tigers- didn't need to do anything
  10. hawks- over paid for frost imo. will jump up the ladder if Patton gets on the park
  11. Swans- didn't get daniher/didn't over pay. Kept papley
  12. Melbourne- nothing to see here
  13. pies- had to free up cash due to last year's trades
  14. sun's- needed to do something
  15. Dons- first of the "losers" kept daniher to loose him for less next year. Brought in another outside player.
  16. Port- didn't get fantasia still lost Howard
  17. crows- nothing like a mass exodus
  18. blues- made a heap of promises but got nothing done

Fine, let's see how this plays out...

Picked up keath and greenwood both as cat B rookie, turned them into equivalent of a 2nd,3rd and 4th. Jacobs, Betts pretty much just getting a farewell retirement go round at new clubs. Yolmen decent compensation for him as FA and we were just trying to get rid of Jenkins.. not sure of the loss..

North did some nice and quiet trade.
Fremantle and St kilda a bit of drama but end up classy for both club.
Sydney and Essendon even it up.
Carlton - nothing much to said read afl.com

1 player who walked and another who would if he could?

The soap opera next year should be riveting for the rest of us

The club stuck to it's refresh strategy with a new coach & footy manager after the infamous camp & cancer of the last 2 years.

We have cleared out most of our older players (we were the 3rd oldest list) & loaded up on draft picks for our best ever draft hand - #4, #23, #28, #45, #49... to bring in the next gen.

Also, we have brought in future picks for next year's draft for Edwards & Borlase.

We have lost 2 best 22 players, depth & experience... but that's what happens with a refresh.

Unlikely to make the finals next season, but at least the club has reset with core experienced players to support the next gen coming through.

Saints must believe they are pretty close because they have really topped up at the expense of the draft.

Last years top 2 picks are yet to play, Coffield & Hunter looking ok from the year prior, Battle the year before, age profile looks ok. Filling out that 23 to 25 year old bracket is not a bad thing.
