I think we are throwing all our eggs in the max king basket.
I hope it works out but 32 and 51 for Bruce I can live with
Good picks for Bruce too, an underrated art on the final day.

Fair enough too, King has a way to go as well as all know, but you may as well start pumping games into him as soon as he's right to go and get him playing alongside Marshall as much as possible.

The trading strategy was pretty excellent, even if some of the players are solid b-grade citizens, those are the guys that will help push you up the ladder.

I've not got an issue with you giving Hawks a D-, but I'm just interested in how you can also have dogs at the top.

Both clubs signed a key defender, a key forward, gave up nothing, kept/gained points for their bids and kept their 1st round pick!
For me, I see the Hawks trade period as basically being Dogs-lite. You got a high risk, high reward KPF (I'd rather Bruce, but to each their own) and a decent enough KPD (again, I prefer Keath) but still managed to retain a strong draft hand.

Hawks didn't land huge targets, but they got some good targets, cost themselves nothing and didn't embarrass themselves along the way. Top 5 or so trade period imo

The wraps are massive on Max King though. As good as Ben King has looked up forward at AFL level, Max was obviously considered better up forward than him prior to him doing his knee, so if he lives up to anything like his potential then him and Membrey as a starting point is very good.

Then there's Ryder/Marshall for potentially the next 1-2 years and of course Josh Battle got pushed back to defence because Carlisle was injured and we had (at the time) Bruce, McCartin and Membrey, so if need be we can always swing Battle back to the forward line. Where he showed heaps of promise last year.
The problem is more immediate, it won't be a concern in 2 years with a more developed King/Marshall/Battle (All of whom I and most people rate).

Very impressed by the Saints. Might still need some more elite talent in the midfield, but that's every team.

Hard to tell, most trades are meant to be win-win but it is hard to tell what clubs paid for a player is going to be the opportunity cost until we see the talent taken with said picks.

The dimwits on AFL trade radio would have you believe that numerous trades = good, but teams that have traded a lot tend to go backwards instead of forwards so I am not sure how moving so many players in and out of a team will pan out.

We got 1 genuine a grader
And 4 players that will make meaningful contributions to our team next year.

We needed an overhaul of our list and you have to give to get sometimes that’s how trading works.

Sad to see Jack, Brucey and goat go but that’s the way it works sometimes.

Very True. Trades With Picks Outcome is not know for Quite a Few Years when we see who they Pick with those Picks and How they Career Goes

No. Jenkins cost next to nothing.
Crows paying a significant amount of his salary and the 3rd rounder we got back for next year is the Suns. So should be before 40.

Pick 37 for likely pick 40 or better... and don't have to pay him in full.
The trade period equivalent of being traded for a packet of chips and a can of coke.

Good call, cats made out well here. But I think one year of development into a player is important considering where we are at right now.

KPF is my only major list concern for the immediate with the saints, and maybe midfield class, but the latter can be overcome by a decent game plan. King will hopefully sort that out long-term.

Bruce should have been retained. Ryder and Marshall aren’t capable of replicating his output next year.
A guy named Max King comes to mind plus with Howard coming in that means Battle can go back forward

Clear Winners:
Dogs....Did extremely well to secure 2 experienced key position players & still keep their round 1 pick.....Big tick there.
Saints....Got everything done they projected to do....So big win there.....They threw caution to the wind & fortune favoured them.
losers:
Essendon.... Retained a bloke who doesn't want to be there & will likely be gone for nix next year anyhow.
Carlton....Hedged their betts (Nice pun that) & got neither Martin nor Papley as a direct result....Will be mitigated somewhat where they to score Martin in the P/S Draaft.

I agree in that Hawthorn shouldn’t be a D- or anywhere near that bad, but I don’t think I am being biased in saying that Bruce and Keith are better then Patton and Frost.

Winners

West Coast - Kelly elevates them to Top 2
Bulldogs - Added players will move them up from 5-8 bracket to 3-6.
Giants - Salary dumped fringe players to be able to tie up their actual key players.

Everyone else doesn't really matter.

Sorry, How is Keath an expirenced defender?? He's played 30 games at senior level.
Not saying the doggies didn't do well to get him.

West Coast for me. Added an absolute A grade kid to an already top four list.

I don’t like the St Kilda trade period. Kinda screams of the ‘you played shit this week so we’re dropping 6 players and putting in new faces’. It never works.

Gained 5 good players, lost 3 good players. Might work out long term but won’t work next year. See Hawks 2016 trade period. Takes a while for new players to gel.

Saints did well but I think losing Bruce for that price is a bit of a blow.

I think Dogs were best performed, considering their needs. West Coast have elevated their flag chances so they will be happy as well
