Wow - what will be Jako's next bombshell? On the EFH website, someone mentioned that Jackovich on the radio or tv was asked who WC were trying to get, he was reluctant to reveal his sources but said that WC were targetting Rich in an attempt to replenish the midfield.
I thought that we started rebuilding our midfield LAST draft ( (Masten, Ebert, Scott Selwood, McGinnity) ? Rich would certainly be usefull, but I don't know that we need to target four more midfielders this draft. What we are rebuilding our midfield, thanks for that Jako.

I am not questioning the idea of us getting Rich with our first pick if we can. What I am saying is that, if we can't get Rich, we should look at other positions, particularly the ones that need filling, before we target midfielders. We don't need four or five extra midfielders that are all of the same standard as Masten or Ebert !While Masten, Ebert & Selwood will become very good players for us none are in that Rich category so to speak. Rich will be a Superstar.

I'm in the diminshing Naitanui camp. Rich is near guaranteed to be a very very good player, but that level of player can be snagged later in drafts with a bit of luck. If we want a player as good as Naitanui could become, we'll never get it without a pick in the top 5 or so (and we're hopign that we're not going to be getting a lot of them in the next few years).
Plus I think Naitanui could be of more value to us even in the first year. Rich is more AFL-ready, but imagine what one or two freaky Naitanui highlights would do for the players that have got into a habit of dropping their heads this year - much more than 10 bullet-like deliveries into the forward 50.
Naitanui would provide spark which is what we need more than anything else right now.
We only need one more midfielder to complete our A-grade midfield ranks. The pattern is you need 3 A-grade midfielders to compete for a title tilt. Unless ofcourse you are Sydney and you only have 1 but the talent is evenly spread across the board.
Current we have 1 in Kerr, then we have 1 who has the potential to be an A-grader, Masten, Rich would complete the set and he is surely going to be an A grader.
Look at it this way.
Top tier of mids (The midfielders who will hurt the opposition and lift the team when the need be)
Kerr, Masten, Rich.
Second tier of mids (Chip in and help the top tier of mids and their job is to hurt the opposition while the focus isnt necessarily on them)
Ebert, Scooter, Priddis, McNamara, Davis ( I am sure I am missing a few here )
I dont think a midfield relying on Kerr, Masten and Ebert would win you a premiership.
Ofcourse when Rich is drafted the next thing we will be looking for is a HFF/crumber.
That's how I can explain it to you.
Doesnt matter. Whoever we pick our development coaches will turn them into a star. Its what we do. We could pick up a Finnish midget and he would probably win the Coleman 3 years later. Eagles dont make draft mistakes and havnt this decade. Why would we start now
It doesnt matter where we, freo or melb finish up. We all want different players.
WC - Rich
Freo - Nat
Melb - Watts

Freo take naitanui? i think they would much prefer a running midfielder like daniel rich to bloster their midfield with the likes of aron sandilands and warnock if they manage to retain him
masten will also be a superstar, he was taken at number 3 last year dont forget
