Without doubt Hawks fans will feel this loss, but this Port win could have huge ramifications for so many teams trying to qualify for finals.

Pretty much every team except Sydney.

Hawks just stopped at the start of the 4th. More concerned with defending a lead than trying to keep the ball rolling like they did all game. Poor, and the coaching by Mitchell to be blamed for not sending a message.

Agree 100%. It's not the first time this has happened either. We managed to win last week without scoring a goal in the last quarter but it's hardly the way you want to go about it.

That rioli free kick was soft as butter. Terrible call. Especially considering the umpires umpired like a wet weather final all game (unless it was jhf)

Say what you like about Mitchell and his tactics but if that free kick wasn't plucked out of thin air he would have been right.

This is probably the worst outcome for the Kenny haters (ie port fans). They got excited because they thought they were going to get rolled by 15th on the ladder and then last minute manage to win. Imagine the pain.

it was as soft as it was dumb by Amon. In that situation of the game you shouldn't be reaching anywhere on your opponent.

Last post on the matter (unless someone replies and wants a response I guess) but lost track of the amount of times a Hawks player had clean possession and a bit of time in the last quarter and decided to go sideways or backwards or find a way to milk a stoppage. The insides 50s (like 20 to 5 or similar) tell the story - all well and good if you've got a huge lead and need to take it easy for next week but you're asking for it with such negative play with a not that insignificant margin.
Those possession chains between defensive 50 and the wing were awful, they missed so many times to gain effective territory and maybe even get a match winning goal out the back. Instead they just got themselves into messes, the pressure ramped up and Port had a real sniff.

The only real logical decision to go defensive in the last quarter is the boys being cooked and you could see midway through the third that we just didn't have the same run.

Young team on a wet heavy track, it wouldn't have surprised me if our fitness was partially why we shut up shop.

We just needed to kick 1 goal.
