Your Clubs Finest Hour

You're sounding like a Collingwood supporter. :)

FWIW, after Winmar's father passed away the night before the game (on top of other issues in the leadup), we were always going to struggle. In hindsight he probably shouldn't have played but how on earth do you not play him?

You might have a point but equally you may have stuggled to close the deal in the GF like you did in the PF.

I forgot about the Winmar turn of events.

I think I was angry at the Saints for losing that day... I really didnt want the crows to take it out after they pinched it from us.

That season though was right up there in terms of our finest hour(s)...

Also right up there for biggest Heartbreak :(

Yeah, Juddy played and went on to do this in the first few minutes;

Ah, that's right, now I remember.I was getting mixed up with the comeback match against Geelong at KP in '06. That's the one Judd missed.
My bad.

Kerr was awesome in both those matches.

Did Barry not get a free kick for that??? Geez, even Buddy would've got one for getting his head taken off.

Yeah, he was awarded a free kick, then one of the Sydney players (Jolly I think from memory) retaliated and the free kick was reversed.

Really? The only blowouts were in 1994 and 1995. I'd hardly call their 1989 performance "pathetic".

Essendon's effort in 1990 was just as insipid if you want to mention specifics.

So you were happy with your grand final performances in correlation to your results over the season? 1989 doesn't count as one man almost single handedly won the game, your team was still pathetic that day.

As a club, obviously 1954 being the one and only.

As a supporter who was not born to see that, I would have to say the 1989 Fightback. As a young teenager at the rally at Whitten Oval and despite the gloom at the likely non-existence of our beloved club, as a supporter there was a sense of pride that others also believed in our cause. I clearly recall the St Kilda, Richmond and Hawthorn cheer squads all being present on the day (and probably a few others).:thumbsu:

Since then, we have had many ups & downs.

Dark times include Rd 2 (?) 1996 when the Kangaroos defeated us by 130 odd points at the G. The 2003/2004 years under Peter Rhode (losing by 80 points to Freo @ Etihad on Mothers Day infront of 12,000) were also very bad and it looked like our long-term existence was under threat again.

The 1997 season was a special time where we came from 2nd last to the prelim against the odds (as we all know another heartbreak).

Really hoping that our clubs finest hour is about to officially begin in 9 days and history will be re-written. ;)

92 for our finest moment, the entire 2007 for the worst, even if it was full of gutsy performances. The drugs, injuries, Cuz's suspension and Judd leaving made it a nightmare of a season. Copping endless shit from journo's and on BF got old really fast as well.

I think that was mainly opposition supporters giving it back after putting up with unbelievable arrogance on BigFooty and belittling of other teams, for the years you were on top.

It all came to an abrupt end, but what goes around comes around

So Ablett was our ruckman, as well as our midfield and forward line was he? Ablett was amazing that day, but someone still had to get the ball down to him.

Back on topic, I can think of three for Geelong.

- Draft day, 1999 - Picked up Corey, Chapman, Ling and Enright that day.
- Draft day, 2001 - Picked up Bartel, Kelly, S.Johnson and Ablett.
- Probably the most surprising of the three - the 2006 season. While at the time it was abysmal, without that poor season, we wouldn't have had the end of year review, where it was decided to bring in Neil Balme in to run the footy department, allowing Bomber to concentrate on coaching, we would've probably kept Steven King on as captain instead of replacing him with Tom Harley, and we certainly wouldn't have been able to draft Joel Selwood!

Finest - 2004 GF.

Other than that though - I reckon beating Adelaide in the first showdown was pretty special. The build up to the game was bigger in many ways than finals. Tickets were like hen's teeth. The atmosphere was incredible.

Then when we got up, despite being massive underdogs, was a great feeling and one that signalled our arrival as a force in the AFL.

Darkest - Black Saturday, 2007

Terrible day as i was working on the cast floor with the radio on with a few mates who were PA supporters, still haven't got over it. :(

Finest hour even though the 97/98 GF were out of this world i would put the 97 PF against the Dogs as the finest,

All down to Fud & he never batted an eye lid. :thumbsu:

I read BF for a year before I joined and I agree the amount of arrogance coming from a bunch of our supporters was pretty staggering. Most of those posters aren't around anymore though, or don't seem to be.
