Who's being dropped for McAullife? Ideally Hopper is, yet I doubt the club will drop a player on serious cash to the reserves. I'm thinking Smith most likely and Tresize goes to HB.

As I've said for years and years, pick a team to take on THIS WEEK'S opponent at THIS WEEK's venue.

Playing Port at AO is a very different challenge to the Saints at Marvel.

We must tailor our squad for our opposition in any given week, not just reward/punish good/poor performances from the weekend before.

Often that squad will look very similar anyway, but here are nuances to different opponents on different grounds.

We need to be smarter selecting our team week to week, just like our players need to be smarter on the ground.
Dont worry they will have Sonsie after 30 disposals last week sitting on the half forward flank in no man’s land Lalor is the big issue why play him at Full forward where he would be able to contribute with in the middle or on a half forward flank

I haven’t been that impressed with Bauer. I’d like to see him put behind the ball and prepare him to take over from Broad.

I think he’s got the tank and marking skills and is a decent field kick.

Going pretty bloody well for a bloke that's played 9 games IMO.

Banks is out due to concussion protocols so could be a pretty easy move to get him or Sonsie into the side

Kmac can pick up some extra mins on the wing again to give whoever it is some mid time

The hate on McIntosh is harsh. He was the only senior player that looked like he gave a damn in the first half.

I don’t think it’s hate on Macca. For me it’s the frustration of seeing Sonsie regularly smash the VFL in the midfield, then come into the seniors and play on the flanks or as sub for his first three years.

Then when a potential opportunity to show his wares at AFL level in the midfield, Macca is in there tagging.

With Hugo out and Pickett retired play Macca on the wing. Play him as sub. Play him as a pressure half forward. When others are available play him in the VFL.

Just don’t play him in midfield ahead of Sonsie or McCAulife. Whilst we arguably may be more competitive at times, the future is better served by seeing what Sonsie can do in there.

I can see Sonsie being delisted having never played a game at AFL level in the midfield - his BEST position where he dominates VFL.

It’s early in the season so things may change, but as I said, give Sonsie a chance … we cannot possibly be any worse than last weekend and Sonsie might just surprise.

He hardly went to Cripps. Cripps also got heaps of touches from being a ruck. 1 st quarter he had 4 alone from grabbing it at stoppage against Bauer.

Simple fact was when did play on him, he stopped him coming straight out the front of the stoppage as usual. He had to throw a handball off to Walsh who couldn’t get any space either.

His run with role was very effective at limiting Cripps’ impact not necessarily his touches.

So McIntosh hardly went to Cripps but still somehow shut him down if you listen to his other supporters. Also if McIntosh’s run with role was so effective why did he hardly go to Cripps. You seem to be contradicting yourself.

This. It looks like they are desperately trying to find a role for him to be able to justify his spot in the side. And because he no doubt is a great fella and wonderful teammate and club man, nobody in the coaches box has the heart (or balls) to drop him.

Sonsie or McAuliffe should be in there. Probably both.

You're highlighting his worst attribute in foot skills by putting him on the half back line and forcing him to pin point passes. Taranto should be playing forward with a bit of a midfield. That's where he played his best football at GWS.

Good around goals, good mark, size and good set shot. Also would allow Kane in and Lalor more mid time.

No, he played his best football at GWS in the midfield. Won a B&F in their 2019 GF team as a 20yo playing mid. He then won a B&F at Richmond and got 19 Brownlow votes playing mid.

He got coaches votes just a week ago in a great win against Carlton, so everyone needs to cool their jets on one game.

One of his issues is we don’t currently have the complimentary players around him. He needs class players to handball to, but they are either injured or not quite ready.

At GWS he had Kelly, Whitfield, Coniglio and others …. at Richmond right now he’s got who?

TT is excellent at getting clearances, getting first possession, getting from contest to contest and tackling in close. He’s not great at lacing out passes or fast transition running.

When Smillie, Lalor, Hotton, McCauliffe etc… are fit and firing, then TT will be the perfect player to take the brunt of the grunt work to let these guys work to their strengths.

In the meantime he’ll try his guts out and get the ball going our way, but he won’t be great whilst he’s farming it out to Dow, Hopper and Ross or kicking it himself … that’s the reality… and it’s also not his fault.

Perfect week for Taranto to get smashed in the media. Reckon he gets 30 and 2 or similar this week.

The TT hate is BS. He’s played 40 games for Richmond and got coaches votes in 16 of them … 40%!! In a non-finalist. He got coaches votes all of ..hmmmm… 1 week ago.

In his only full season he won the B&F and got 19 Brownlow votes, including a string of 5 x 3’s in a row. He was injured last year. Then this year he gets 30 and coaches votes in a win v Carlton. Then had 1 x shocker against Port and he’s some sort of dud player.

It’s hot garbage driven by Cornes.

Taranto was a bit part mid at GWS besides one season and not part of their main rotation with plenty of forward time. They moved out of there at first opportunity as it was best for their team. We will need to do the same whether it's now or later.

I'm not suggesting he plays only forward but his ratio is out whack now. Way too much midfield when he can and should push forward and impact.

Taranto was a 40-50% centre bounce attendance guy at GWS on average for each season. He's pushing 85% CBA at Richmond which means he never leaves our midfield unless he's on the bench.

He's proven he's effective up forward when you cut down his midfield time which would allow faster and more skillful players to get more midfield opportunity.
