Was hoping someone would post this, I couldn't find it.

Says SO much about today's win.

Thought Worpel responded well after he came on. Still some mistakes but not out of place given the heat and conditions. But loved his defensive desperation. Diving to smother and tap balls on to advantage. Form can fluctuate but effort is always well within control. Can’t fault a player giving their all at all times.
Better today but still going for balls 1 handed too often

Just watched some of the replay. What ****ing annoys me further about Hawkins’ stage show is that no one in the commentary team called it out. Just get Ling trying on some Russian standard spin. Pack of sycophants. I know media partners have non disparagement clauses in respect to umpiring but doubt that extends to fair comment on player conduct during play.

Mitchell was unbelievable in the second half.

Sicily and Nuke unbelievable all game.

Missed out on $4.5k multi payout because of total points leg. Not even salty about that. Priceless win.
I share your bittersweetness...I missed a 7 leg same game multi as Jiath had 19 not 20, but no salt here either!

Good point. Something that young kids should be taught. Play the clock ⏰ to your advantage.
He was a certainty by playing on and running in to the goal square to kick the goal

Not sure you are serious tbh

Scrim was unreal again, just goes under the radar and puts in consistent performances every week.

Had some really big moments - set up Breust’s goal with a massive spoil

Birch would be proud
In my opinion, he is already one of the best general defender/medium defenders in the league. It is tremendously scary that he's only 23.
He has Birchall 2.0 written all over him. The question I ask is could he be even better than Birchall?

Watching the replay, the Arms out 50 is exactly why fans hate umpires. They're shooting themselves in the foot by getting precious over stupid shit like this. When we need more umpires at all levels, why on earth would you introduce something to make them more disliked?!
Exactly. Total overreaction. It should about language and context, and not a simple hand gesture when players are seeking clarity on a decision.

Knowing the AFL they won't back down now unfortunately. It's common sense. The umpire just takes into account context of the gesture, how strong it is and the tone and words that accompany it. That Scott egg will choose this hill to die on rather than admit he is an egg

The worst thing about it is its actually labelled "umpire respect" hahaha what a way to look like a joke of a sport

It's a terrible way for the league to try and garner respect for the umpires. "Oh you looked upset in my direction, Ima penalise that, 50".

You are correct. I noticed it and posted earlier too. It was as if he find fault in every act of Hawks. I loved him as a champion and will remain as one in my mind but gee - you are not a fair commentator.

I was talking about this to a mate the other night about former Hawks commentating. They are either too "fair", or they go the other way. We have to put up with biased commentary from former players from other clubs, but our guys let us down.

They are doing it to avoid barracking like the other former players can when they call their former clubs.

I’d rather it be like this, couldn’t stand to see them become Eddie, Russell etc.

It’s actually a sign of intelligence snd self awareness. It’s not even that bad imo.

Guess I disagree on this.

Not much mention about Morrison. I think he had a very good game today and barely put a foot wrong.
I feel calm when Harry has the ball, says everything about the player I feel he has become.

Richo does the same in Richmond games, tbf.

Things we won today:
  • contested possession count
  • possession count
  • tied on centre clearances

Things we didn’t even get close to winning in any of the first 4 rounds:
- all of the above (more or less, and certainly never more than 1)

Change in game style to suit the conditions and opposition. And for the team to pull it off so well is a credit to both the players and coaching group.

Coming into this game it appeared we might be a little one-dimensional with fast, slingshot footy off halfback after intercepting possession. Now we’ve shown we can play otherwise as well, which makes planning for us a harder job.
We did win the centre clearances last week but I hear what you are saying 😉
