The ‘Naitanui leaves to chase flag’ story that I’ve been pushing for 6 months is finally gathering some momentum…

Really hope that doesn’t happen…I can pretty much live with anyone else going but listening to dickhead Vics claiming NN for the rest of his days….ugh….

I guess we’ll see how loyal the big man is now.

Giants or Swans for Nic if he does move.

Faaaaaark the Vics.

Maybe we'll finally take drafting a ruckman seriously after he leaves. We went from having Cox, Lycett and NN in the same list to having a bare ruck-stocks cupboard in the space of a few years.

To be fair, we’ve also turned over Sinclair and Hickey, both still listed at Sydney and Vardy, who though mostly useless, retired probably slightly earlier than expected.

So having 2 ruck prospects on the list for a few seasons now in Williams and Jamieson + Naitanui isn’t exactly ‘bare’, it’s pretty normal.

It's the bane of my draft following existence: watching teams draft a player who excels in an on field position only to be stonewalled and never given an opportunity in said position, the cherry on top being the forced conversion to becoming a flanker.

If you think that AFL Drafting is frustrating and deflating, you should try following the NE Patriots drafting .......... oh wait ;)

His enthusiasm for the contest has been great, particularly in the first few rounds, but he has a lot of limitations.

You'd have to assume he is not on a big salary (and never will be) so he can still provide value for us but it's not going to go much further than that.

If he was to get usurped by Jack Williams as the fwd/ruck option (and that seems to be the thought process from what I can see) the key for Dixon's career might be holding on long enough for Darling's retirement and coming back into the best 22 as the fwd/ruck option with Williams transitioning to a full time forward or ruck (forward seems more likely).

Even if manages to find a role in a best 22 (with everyone fit) he is always going to be in a selection battle to hold that role.

As much as we are all going to miss JK the one positive will be the end of Oscar Allen getting thrown into the ruck.
I saw HD play in Tassie and habe followed Hugh Dixon's progress over time.

At Fremantle he was injured and just didn't apply himself. Always unfit due to not doing a pre season. Played one game of AFL. He showed plenty and kicked a great goal. It was the last game of his second year (1999) against Port Adelaide Fyfe's press conference after that game said much when asked by reporters about the promising performance of Hugh Dixon. He basically said if he gets his off field shit together he could be anything.

Many had high hopes and then same old shit. He arrived at pre season very unfit in Covid year, getting caned in solo sessions and not allowed to even play scratch matches until half fit. Freo played him down back in most scratch matches due to their injuries. A few friends tied up with Melbourne and Hawthorn were super impressed by his performances as a key defender. He was an emergency in a couple of later games.

Delisted by freo who had had enough. Bell said on radio in WA then, HD was definitely AFL quality but lacked AFL professionalism. Last year at East Fremantle, who I follow, he was injured with an ankle for half the year. When he played he was way above the "average" WAFL player people are calling him. I think he played about 10 league games last year and made the WAFL team of the week in 4 of them. He came back after missing 9 weeks with injury, and kicked 3,3,5 goals against the top sides in the last 3 games.

I have watched him at WC and he has looked good sometimes and shit other times. Last weekend, and last three games actually, he played without confidence. He dropped marks, misjudged marks, didn't get free kicks and turned the ball over with shit disposal. Most of that is very unusual. Like the club, he has had no continuity. Missing with covid, calf and sickness (Hipee club/Brisbane week). Last week first game since pre season playing key forward. Last week got in some right spots but looked rusty (and some would say very poor). I think HD will make an above average AFL player. A proper pre season or 3, will help. Wouldn't be giving up on him quite yet.

Damn, talk about a journeyman. Puts Giles to shame.

Above average WAFL player at most he shows glimpses but you can see he will be one of those players that never grasps it, I highly doubt he will be on the list in the next 2 years, will be very happy to be proved wrong but I just can’t see him making it.

Prome example-Worpel wins a B&F playing in the midfield, now is stuck on a fwd flank & gets dropped occasionally

Yep, probably right, just hope he comes back to the Sharks when AFL career finished.
