Campbell is killing it at Sandy but he’s a traditional ruck. He is really one dimensional.
If he put in over the off season and worked on his athletic ability for his around the ground efforts he would be in the starting 22 all day long.

He’s just had as many possessions as most of the mids and kicked a goal of the week contender. His number are very good for a bloke who just smacks the ball.

Ely Smith is probably going to be delisted end of year. From reading reserves reports for a while he hasn't really been close to getting a call up. Through injury and otherwise he hasn't come on as we would have liked.

I would think Mathieson is a gettable target. For the most part he's seen as too good for VFL but not good enough for AFL. Or at least with his limitations, we can't squeeze him in our current midfield set up. So if he was offered a better chance at regular games he might go for it

Another one I could see as a target is Tom Berry. Has put in some good reserves games, but still behind a few at Brisbane. Will be a bit harder to pry out because of his brother though.

Last year you tried Smith as a forward in the reserves. I’d love to give him a go. Big lump inside mids are rare at the Saints.

That may happen , but you know if he comes to the Saints, some crap will go down and it will all turn pear shaped.
Its just the way things go down for the Saints.

He’s very similar to Gresham in all stats and even how even his performance is. A second Gresham sounds good to me but will shit the people who don’t rate him.

Am I missing something with Campbell? I was under the impression he was another McKernan break-glass-in-case-of-emergency type. He might be killing it at Sandy but I'd prefer not to have a 31 year old ruck as a mainstay of the 22.

I've got confidence in the list management team to do the right thing. As much as I want Degoey, if he's asking for $1mill then it's a no from me.
Probably comes down to whether Collingwood want to keep him or not. If it's a similar situation to Crouch then I'm sure we'll make an offer we can afford. If he doesn't like it we move on.

JDG ticks all the boxes except the character one. And even then I think he can mature a bit more with us so that it’s not a problem.

He’s what we need. Yes he’s inconsistent but I think he’s absolutely worth the risk given he’s only 26 and can still improve. Adding him to the list gives us a dynamic player and we’ve only got a couple of those.

He will be a number 2 ruck, he’s old school ruck with good first touch numbers. I was just pointing out that if he increased his athletic ability, became more mobile he would be pushing a selection.

McKernan wasn’t even touching the ball in the ruck, I thought his role was defender with ruck options.

As you pointed out he’s 31, so I doubt that he would magically become more athletic anyway.

It's more likely we will pass on Amon, get De Goey who has the best pre season of his life and dominates all the practice matches. Week before Rd 1 gets arrested and we never see him again

that's what I think. Obviously 1 game in and then out isn't great for most draftees but if he's told before the game that this isn't him cementing a spot but rather giving him a taster I think he'd take it as a challenge to see exactly what AFL level is like then go back to work on it.
