I know some people will disagree but right now I'm seeing our tradable players as Highmore and JB, let's say each worth a 3rd round pick.

Moving out:
JB
Highmore
Gears
Hanners
Joyce
Kent
would free up a pack of SC, so it's fair l think to say that we could chase 2 players in the 7-800k region.

Best comparison for degoey is a membrey/Ross sized Jack Higgins.

Blazes away at goal, burning open teammates, unaccountable.

Still want, think he would be a good fit in our midfield, push gresh back forward more.
Gresh and Jones are just too light to attend bounces.

Smart man would go there. They just don’t stop winning. And he adds the type of mid they’re missing too but with a stronger core to surround him. Less pressure to be the man to carry them while danger and Selwood and Guthrie are still there.

I like Ross and crouch and jones but I don’t think they have the same respect from the league as danger, selwood, Guthrie do.
Can’t even get close to comparing the group.

I think people maybe shocked to know gresh is rated elite at clearances and contested possessions.

I still find it amusing that many consider Gresh to be a small forward. He's our only dynamic mid who makes things happen.

Yep. The only point of difference. When people say stats wise our midfield is good that maybe true individually but it’s so same same. Gresh is the spark. When we won against some good sides he is usually in our best. When we lose he usually struggles. Not because he is front runner it’s more he is the barometer.

I find it a bit strange we are not linked with any of the midfielders on the move in this article outside of De Goey. Going off the stated position of the club we are in a premiership window right now. You'd think we have salary cap space given the failed Bing move and its absolutely obvious our midfield is a big issue. Now we might have thrown our hat in the ring with all of these players been told no already which wouldn't surprise me. The fact we seem to be so cautious with De Goey is a bit odd. Geelong are always aggressive in this space and its a big reason why they have been good for a hundred years. The board needs to make a decision on where are at. At the moment we really are in no mans land. If the position has changed and we are pivoting to the draft again then they need to communicate this to the members.

We try and avoid A grade mids wherever possible.

Callaghan, Green, OHalloran good to look at.

One of the all time understatements that one.

If JDG is fair dinkum about footy, he goes to Geelong methinks.
This is our problem being a nothing club. To get him we have pay way overs. If we refuse to do that then people will say we aren’t trying hard enough.

Then we do & it's thrown in our face by our own supporters as soon as the player has a dip in form or is injured.

You’d have to wonder if he chooses us does he see us as an easy money type of gig

Not shocking at all.
He’s a great footballer.

But the reason for his inconsistency is he is easily outmuscled.

Keep him in the forward half,
Use his contested possession and clearance closer to goal where he can be damaging.

Use degoey in the guts where his size makes a difference.

Or get a proper mid to play in the guts.

Not many AFL players average 25 possessions and a goal a game. He doesn't get the hype of others but he's one of our best.

Happy with that but I was talking this year. I think we are no hope of getting de goey if it’s out of us and Geelong.

I like him on ball because he can break lines. Our others seem to not be great at lateral movement.

Jordan de Goey is a tricky one, let's face it. He could easily knuckle down and become one of the most damaging players in the game. Or he could just as easily not be on an AFL list at all. Don't think I've ever put these words together before, but I agree with Kane Cornes. Geelong seems like the best fit for him right now. We just seem far too flaky to be able to get the best out of him. Geelong, on the other hand, would appear to have structures and systems in place where everyone is on the same page. And they do come across as having a certain sense of maturity about what they're doing down there. Things we can only dream about.

The type of deal Collingwood had on the table for him would make sense. I think it was two years with the option of two more if certain criteria was met. Probably with the odd clause that if he brings the club into disrepute they can sack him. Having said all the above, I hope we can get him. Yeah it's a risky move, but the fact that it won't cost any draft picks, along with the money factor not being as big as it could have been, tell me it's worth a punt. The place needs a bit of a shake up, in more ways than one. Worst case scenario he f@#ks up and he's gone. Best case scenario, well I'll leave that up to you good forumites to dream about.
They have to secure one or two free agents in my opinion and then hit the draft to keep the youth development.
We have the people in place to handle anyone they bring in , including DeGoey.
I fully expect St Kilda would already have made the offer to DeGoey and a decision to announce will come at seasons end.
The reason why I so confident is we have Gubby Allan doing the negotiating and he was at the Nth when they offered him a 5yr deal on a million a year which he knocked back , so he would know him pretty well.

He would be very familiar with Hopper and Taranto as well being the guy who was head of football at GWS when they were drafted.

The club is ruthless enough to cull anyone they think is excess to bring in the talent they require but I fully expect they will try there best at securing free agents before considering going all out on the GWS players.

Exactly why he is in there now and why Jones is rotated through.
Steele, crouch and seb are all good mids but all lack that explosive line breaking.
It’s why degoey is such a great fit, rascal or not.

Make It Rain Money GIF

Could it be that JB was Re-signed on unders to be able to trade him out the year later to not cost as much?
