Sholl is an interesting one. He had a few high possession games early and was nailing left and right foot passes like it was nothing. Was slow but could run all day and was purely outside. He looked like a skilful outside wingman who knew how to find the ball easily.

I feel like his kicking was the first thing to drop off which was weird. Seemed to miss easy shots on goal as well. Then all of a sudden he couldn't run anymore. He then regressed hard. Was labouring and having zero influence. Easily pushed off the ball. Once he couldn't get space he was ineffective.

Whether it's been a development issue or his game just got exposed easily, I'm not sure. Either way I wouldn't be rushing him back. Soligo was a nice upgrade.
Soligo was but now is playing forward / mid instead of wing

I still think Sholl is the 3rd best wing at the club after 2 guys that aren’t playing wing Dawson / Seed

If Worrell gets dumped after a game versus a good fwd line in Carlton rather than giving him another couple of 'softer' games then we are a joke. Just give him the last month. What is there to lose? We can't move out of the bottom 4 now. Jfc
This is where we'll find out that Doedee needs 7 separate surgeries

Worrell gets the rest of the season

Little did Burgess know that soldiering on with injury was the one thing we were already well versed in

Don’t agree

He had some poor games but more good games than alot of our players
We must have been watching different players.

I was a big fan early on cos if his kicking, but even that took a slide one he was being forced to kick under pressure. I don't think he's soft, he's just too weak and lacks power to influence contests. He has poor recovery. He reminds me of myself as a junior :)

Unless we can get him into space again, I'm not sure he's going to be able being those traits we saw early on.

He’s nowhere near a finished product but at least has 2 weapons endurance and kick

Which is more than plenty others

Just think it’s odd he hasn’t had more chances when others have and he knows how to play on a wing

Pleased for Worrell

Disappointing it has taken so long to rest Doedee. Poor management on our behalf. Bad for Doedee. No experience gained for Worrell. Barely won a game anyway.

Better late than never though. Hopefully he does well and conditions are a bit better than his first hit out
I'm happy Worrell is finally getting a run but it utterly shits me that Doedee has been carrying a niggle for a while which has no doubt affected his form yet we STILL played him.

We've long had a habit of playing underdone senior players. Thommo in 2016 over Lyons and Tex in 2020 are two classic examples that come to mind. It's inexcusable to continue to play them at anytime let alone in a rebuilding year.

He has 5 Brownlow votes. 3 in his 'breakout' game against an unmotivated Carlton when nobody knew what he was capable of, and 2 vs North Melbourne who are not capable of providing any meaningful opposition (Note that Sholl hasn't played in any of the charity wins since that one)

Atkins debuted relatively late in age, showed good signs in early matches and after a handful of games started ripping games apart with his pace and evasion, and continued well into his second year. By late in his third year his game was well understood and he had failed to add anything more to his game, and thus was easily countered by any opposition who did a moderate amount of planning. People were already accusing him of going soft/etc. at this point.

It's far to call it a huge failure of the Crows to develop either of these players further. But the key failure is that both have never expanded beyond a one-dimensional player with one easily identifiable skill, not that any new habits crept into their game.

6 of 9 games he had 20+ disposals and 1 other game 19 this year (not counting the media in game where he had 1). Still uses the ball well
For comparison Soligo 3 times in 10 games and Jones yet to get 20 touches in a game this year

I think Sholl has been harshly treated in comparison to several other younger players

He's a better player than Milera. Comfortably.

We have real difficulty in balancing our team

We love tough, hard nuggety types who are at the bottom of packs and winning contests.

Even many of our wingmen and half forwards end up being centre square midfielders who we just can't fit in the centre square (Hately, Murphy, McHenry, Soligo)

Players whose strengths are poise, ball use, finding space etc we undervalue

Yep ...

Sholl is the type you want delivering to our forwards .

He will serve another club very well that use his skillset optimally .

Has Ben Davis been the travelling emergency or the home game player held back for any games this season?

He’s the perfect player for it because he can contribute at AFL level if needed but he’s not in our long-term plans so no damage done if he fails to play.

So, I’m guessing the answer is ‘no’.

Definitely seems very strange that Sholl hasn't got a look, even as a medi sub or something. He's been doing work in the SANFL and hasn't been picked, which puts him in the Frampton position of looking like he's probably on the way out. Might be some truth to the trade rumours based on that.

We do have an issue with giving roles to outside players but we obviously are aware of that to a degree which is why Milera is being persisted with through mediocre returns, because he's one of relatively few players in the team with genuinely good skills and who moves well on the outside. Same to a degree with looking at Parnell over Brown. Given those selections I have to assume Sholl would be at least in the frame if there wasn't a reason they'd put a line through him. Will be interesting to see at end of year.

I think the problem was more teams started to put work into him and not allow him the space he required to use his foot skills to great advantage. the closer attention magnified his major weakness at contested footy.
This is exactly what happened IMHO.

I tend to agree.

He's definitely fallen well below the hype (thus far.) But I'd still say that he's better than the 23rd best Adelaide player.

No unforced changes was a near certainty. This is all about building continuity credits for 2 winnable games com8ng up and the backslaps that come with being proven right and all the agitators wrong.
North is the only winnable game I can see. West coast should go for tanking if they go down to us in Perth.

McHenry shouldn't be getting games. Neither should Cook though if he can't run a game out. I say that as somebody who rates him and wants him to get games. Last week he was nowhere near it. Maybe it was just late season fatigue or maybe he's a slow burn that will take a while to develop. He still looks pretty under-developed physically.

He’s been relatively nowhere near in the SANFL . His last month of footy in particular heading into being selected as the emergency were no good at all.

Crows absolutely torched both the Panthers and Bays and he couldn’t get near it, then average games against Sturt, North and Norwood. Precisely zero of those games warranted a call up, never mind stringing at least a few of them together and show some decent form. Just not ready.

Such bizarre selection integrity. Sholl and Taylor must be wondering what else they need to do to get a crack.

our footy hasn't been pretty ok for good portions of games for most of the year. Eagles still not firing on all cylinders and can stink it up. They can't miss bottom 2, unlikely to finish bottom even if they lose, Simpson has some pride, there's no way they deliberately lose to us.
