Not only is Stewart not a KPD, he's nowhere near one of the elite backs in the league. Cats didn't miss a beat when he was out, and then 2nd game back copped a hard tag, barely sighted in the game, and Cats win by 10 goals

Elite seagull in a top team. Would be a scapegoat in a poor side
Maybe, maybe not. Hard to say - as you say because he's only ever been in a gun side. He could very well be average in an average side. As for the seagull thing - it's what Gov does, doesn't he? I always rate the guys who can also go man on man (like May, Barrass) over pure interceptors, but in todays game the interceptor is pretty important.

Losing quality mid aged players and leaders isn’t going to rebuild anything. End up being a basket case like NM.
Hang on a sec, we're talking about 1 guy. Solid as a rock, but there's also Kelly, Darling, Sheed, etc. One player won't make us like North. The question is whether you think there's enough upside in the risk of taking pick #3.

Bazzo is a baby, Gov is an injury prone veteran, and it is debatable whether Edwards is up to AFL. Edwards is not even a solid player atm, and who are the heap of hbf players?
The HBFers have nothing to do with nothing. Bazzo is young, Gov is old, and edwards is a makeshift spud. If we did trade him, there would be a short term hole without a doubt.

So we want to get rid of the over 30s, Trade out or delist the spuds, Also trade our exceptional/leadership bound guys for high picks just so we can bring in speculative picks who could be anything?

Sounds like a solid plan...

A very big hole from what I have seen. How many times has he saved us over the last few weeks. Not enough for wins, but enough to make the games competitive. I don’t like to imagine how it would have been without him.

Yes, that would be approaching like for like. Their cheapskate proposal is to try and get the AFL to pay for him through free agency compensation. Too smart by half. They are trying to get a gun player for nothing apart from his wage. Joke.
Just to be clear, “they” is a random fan on an online forum not the club. But don’t worry, apparently if it was a good idea everyone would have done it already.

So a slightly different flavour to take to the draft

Headlines known to the public:
  1. West Coast have fallen off the cliff - it came fast and will likely be at the bottom of the table for a couple of years
  2. Lions have 2 father son picks this year and another in 2 years meaning they need points this year
  3. Suns have a great load of good picks and high number of points this year with the prospect of losing Rankin and getting pick 4
  4. Suns have been keen on Hollands to unite with brother and he is likely to be in the 12 to 18 range.
Brisbane currently have 2,182 points as they hold the following picks
14, 32, 43 and 68
Let me assume they get pick 19 compo for losing McStay and pick 38 for losing Robertson to Eagles
New Lions points equals 3,595
Ashcroft likely to go 1 and Fletcher say 20 meaning they would need 3,130 points. They are covered.

Suns as it stands have 4,101 points and if they lose Rankin and get 4, they have 6,135 points.
Losing Rankin they have picks 4, 8, 26, 31, 35, 44, 53, 67 and 71
They would dearly like to shift 3,000 plus points to 2023

West Coast to sell off their first round pick next year to the Suns. This will probably be in the top 4 for pick 4 this year so should bring in some 2,500 points. In return we get picks 4 (Rankin deal with the Crows), 14 (Suns do a trade with the Lions) and pick 44
In return we give over pick 25 and next years first

We then go to the draft with 2, 4, 14 20 and 44 plus Robertson.
2 = Wardlaw or Phillipou or Sheezel (classiest midfielder)
4 = Busslinger or Cadman (KPP)
14 = Szybkowski or MacKenzie or George or Hewett (inside or balanced midfielder)
20 = Barnett or Hustwaite or Hotton or Gibney (options)
44 = Jones or Broadbent or best available (options)

Yes I know we miss out 2023 but we get three 1st rounders this year and at 20 a very early second

Now if we hold pick 1, then we have an even stronger hand to work with Lions on to avoid the bid at 1 for Ashcroft.

Suns happy with banking very high points for 2023. They also can take Hollands at 8 and do something with some slightly later picks.
No way will the Suns let you bend them over in a trade again.

What you’re essentially trading is pick 4, 14 and 44, for picks 4 and 25. Yeah, that seems fair. Not.

Teams changed entire gameplans to avoid Gov, who also happened to play an absolutely key role in a premiership team.

Stewart got his first tag on the weekend just gone and was unsighted. And it had no influence at all on the game

He's a good player but the talk of him being one the best defs in the game is nuts imo

He's been good. Real good. He used to be a bit of an interceptor and I questioned why we need two. Be he's proper beast mode and goes man to man with the big dogs.

So yeah, he would leave a hole. But right now we have a massive hole in the midfield. I'm a firm believer in having to build an elite midfield. If you do that, you'll find the rest of the team one way or another. Pick #3 is no guarantee, but being able to take a Warlord and Phillipou from the draft would be massive.

Barrass is the captain to lead us out of this muck.

He's probably the only established player we have I wouldn't contemplate trading at all.

I used to flip flop on TB a bit because I found him frustrating. Right now, he's playing like a ****ing champion.

Apologies for the intrusion to your board …

Apparently Dogs are making a play for Barrass, however unrealistic that may be. How opposed to the below would Eagles fans be:
  • Eagles and Barras renegotiate his contract to 1 year deal ending this year and then he becomes a free agent
  • Dogs throw a big contract at Barrass so they get band 1 compensation (probably pick #3)
There's little precedent to renegotiated contracts to reduce in duration but there is no reason it couldn't happy other than the AFL making up rules on the run.

If that's not attractive enough I wouldn't be opposed to the Dogs also trading pick #9 (and pick #27) for Liam Duggan with you guys picking up a chunk of his salary - completely unrelated to Barrass of course :)
Wtf is this

I reckon there's more chance of Nisbett announcing a press conference tomorrow morning, coming out in front of everyone and saying "You know what, WCE_phil was right, I actually am a massive campaigner" than there is of anything remotely close to us fiddling Barrass' contract to help the Bulldogs steal one of our best players in his prime.

In your first post you said it was ‘the Dogs’ making a play not some random poster on an online forum. You’ve walked that back a long way.

So help me here with Lyons. You got him for the 2019 season and hence this is his 4th season. It was in 2019 and 2020 that he was seen as one of the recruits of the year!

Are you telling me he is contracted for another 2 years? Was it a 6 year deal to start off with or did he recently get extended?

The guy is 30 and starting to fade rather rapidly. I can see why Robertson is wanting out.
Yeah, extended.

I used to flip flop on TB a bit because I found him frustrating. Right now, he's playing like a ******* champion.
My biggest criticism of Barrass previously was his ability 1 on 1 being somewhat questionable, however this year, I think this is much improved. I also think he is playing smarter and is such an elite read of the play, that he is just in front and off his opponent enough that he is not getting caught in those 50/50 contests.

There's a lot of top shelf KPD that were taken in the 20s. Then Gov and Grimes were taken way back. Compare that to where all the elite midfielders were drafted from.

Making a team of players on big contracts clubs currently regret would be an interesting side; Hannebry, Gaff, Grundy, Coniglio, Lyons, McGoverns X 2, Fyfe, Whitfield, Zac Williams, Josh Kelly (arguably)...
Lyons is not on a big contract. It’s just that we extended a player close to his 30’s, beyond what is smart.

It’s called rolling your eyes dip s**t, the person is mocking your plan as pathetic.

They didn't quote me and nearly everything they said was not what I said, or have ever said. They just took random things from multiple posters over the last few weeks, put them together and rolled their eyes. There's not a poster who has said all that stuff.

Therefore, he's shouting at the sky. Probably talking to himself too.
