Look Acres has been playing well for the Dockers, and won't cost much...but my only question is...where will he play?

He's a big-bodied mid. And we're already losing Jed.

I just can't see a role for him.

Ermmm how does on the wing sound, where we don't have a great deal of choice and where he plays!

A bit less sexy, but if you’re bringing in established players, they need to have a role. Acres fits that bill.
Yep. He fills a need. I've been saying we should get him for a while now. Would be great if there's substance to these rumours.

For the sake of a novel comparison, his stats compare pretty favourably to Ed Langdon's.

Patch talked about how bad we are at live defence, or defending a turnover because we're not fit enough. And we saw it all year at games, especially in the second half of quarters. Plus our pressure rating was the lowest in the AFL. We will win SFA games until we have a critical mass of players who can:

1/ cover the ground
2/give multiple sprints and
3/ actually compete when they get there.

Watching at the games - our guys tire badly in the second half of quarters. They can't defend turnovers, can't outnumber, can't run in waves for long enough.

Kallan Dawson comes in and runs further than anyone in his first game. A supposed semi-professional comes in and is able to outwork 21 guys who've been in our so called professional environment.

People can bag Bailey Scott all they like, he's one of very few on our list who can cover the distances required of good AFL half backs and wingers.
This is a great post

Yep Scott does run, the issue with Clarko coming in is that he doesn't kick well.
Although his kicking for goal is not bad.

It’s funny because he can hit up targets but sometimes he hashes the kick.

I do maintain that part (not all) of the issue with all our side kicking out of the back 50 is a lack of upfield movement

The Acres move has been rumoured for a few weeks now. A big fan and he is exactly what we need. Freo can develop wingers real well. They’ve got another fine one in O’Driscoll.

Hopefully we can get him and Logue too.

Also, we need to keep Scott and Z. The former is one of the few blokes with a tank.

Yep we need run run run , inject that and we would look so much better (skills will look better too)

* metaphorically, I'd love to see it on camera!
I though it was a euphemism, I mean is there any media type that enjoys sucking his/her own dick more

You'd think after the BBB comments on our fitness, something would have changed

To be fair the s and c staff took over last offseason I’m assuming the changes in fitness/run levels would take time to be apparent.

Yes it has been and Polec I actually feel for him. He's as outside as they come, fancy trying to change that at his age. Hope he gets fit and be that gun outlet type player. I am over our 3/4 players fighting for the ball rubbish and rarely having anyone to give it to when they win it.

I had exactly 12 myself, of course I hope the likes of Comben, Phillips, Goater, Bergman, *Bonars, Dawson, Young, TT if he remains all get games on merit not because we need to find 23 every week.

Get onboard or get out.
It'd be great if he was able to get fit again and we could add experience, ground coverage and ball use without having to recruit anyone. Big ask for him to get back to winger level running, though, when he's been out injured so much and his foot will limit his loading.

Heard from a friend who has ties with one of our S&C people and they were saying that we are sooooooooo far off the mark in that respect it’s not even funny.
Sounds like previous iterations of coaches allowed us to just sloth around and then wondered why we can’t run and chase all day and always seemed to tire as the game went on.

My fear with recruiting some of the guys mentioned like Hill, Shiels etc is that they are at the upper limit of ages we should be targeting and not really played that well recently.
So you get them in and they arent adding anything playing wise and are getting to the point they should be moved on anyway.
It’s like JZ sadly the game has passed him but we won’t move him on so we end up one down every week because of it.

We are 18th for a reason and need to move on underperforming players, those that won’t make it and get some players in that add to our list not detract from it by replacing one spud for another!

This time of year sucks but anywho I guess what will be will be…!

I believe it’s
Fit in or F’;k off
#Shitmen beware

We're talking about shitmen Hill from the Saints, yeah?

Goodness me and bloody crikey we need some more shitmen like him and quick. Please can we fill our boots with underachievers like that.

He'd be fourth on our list for disposals this season.
We might be getting rid of this bloke.

Worth the extra 600k?

I think Kevin White has done a great job with LDU and guys who've been prepared to work hard. Part of it's about the young demographic and some legacy injuries. And they got young guys through without injury in the main.

Powell is not there yet due to his OP, interrupted preparation and needs to work harder than most because he's not a natural runner.

Horne-Francis - first year player giving plenty of sprints and effort at the contest but needs a lot of work on his tank. Currently doesn’t cover the ground.

They got Perez through the preseason and season - he's missed so much with his injuries - they've done a great job with him and he's got more tank upside.

Goater wasn't anywhere near covering the ground when he arrived - they did a great job with him.

Paul Curtis - again was able to play a lot of senior footy, definitely wasn't fit enough to do that when he arrived.

How well White and those players lift themselves up again this preason will be crucial to our competitiveness. And how hard will they push Thomas? How hard will he work?

Curtis Taylor punched out 16km in his last game.

They were at their absolute best when Hill and Sinclair were able to run off half back but he does have the habit of going missing. The main positive with him is he always responded for Clarko.

I've never concerned myself with what players earn, I do concern myself with what a trade costs us. CCJ is a prime example of that.

The young fella you mentioned, I don't particularly rate plenty do of course and it seems he may just want out.

But who knows.

Time as they say will reveal all.
