I think Kevin White has done a great job with LDU and guys who've been prepared to work hard. Part of it's about the young demographic and some legacy injuries. And they got young guys through without injury in the main.

Powell is not there yet due to his OP, interrupted preparation and needs to work harder than most because he's not a natural runner.

Horne-Francis - first year player giving plenty of sprints and effort at the contest but needs a lot of work on his tank. Currently doesn’t cover the ground.

They got Perez through the preseason and season - he's missed so much with his injuries - they've done a great job with him and he's got more tank upside.

Goater wasn't anywhere near covering the ground when he arrived - they did a great job with him.

Paul Curtis - again was able to play a lot of senior footy, definitely wasn't fit enough to do that when he arrived.

How well White and those players lift themselves up again this preason will be crucial to our competitiveness. And how hard will they push Thomas? How hard will he work?

Curtis Taylor punched out 16km in his last game.
Any wonder his last kick was Mahonyesque

I've never concerned myself with what players earn, I do concern myself with what a trade costs us. CCJ is a prime example of that.

The young fella you mentioned, I don't particularly rate plenty do of course and it seems he may just want out.

But who knows.

Time as they say will reveal all.
I don't care what they earn either, however it causes angst amongst the playing group if a bloke comes in on 900k when we haven't taken care of our own.
if we sign up our main players on good cash then fine, but until CZ and the like have been taken care of i don't want us spending.

The CCJ trade was an embarrassment, I thought we were past that BS, i guess not.

Heard from a friend who has ties with one of our S&C people and they were saying that we are sooooooooo far off the mark in that respect it’s not even funny.
Sounds like previous iterations of coaches allowed us to just sloth around and then wondered why we can’t run and chase all day and always seemed to tire as the game went on.

My fear with recruiting some of the guys mentioned like Hill, Shiels etc is that they are at the upper limit of ages we should be targeting and not really played that well recently.
So you get them in and they arent adding anything playing wise and are getting to the point they should be moved on anyway.
It’s like JZ sadly the game has passed him but we won’t move him on so we end up one down every week because of it.

We are 18th for a reason and need to move on underperforming players, those that won’t make it and get some players in that add to our list not detract from it by replacing one spud for another!

This time of year sucks but anywho I guess what will be will be…!
Not to excuse previous regimes, but surely the players knew it was substandard too and yet appeared to take no action upon themselves to determine their own destiny?

Like if your housemate, who is playing at another club can run 15k's and you can only run 5k's, wouldn't you be thinking "far out I better put some work in here," as well as raising it with the club?

Players all cry about wanting responsibility to drive their own standards and culture, but seems no one in our group does much 'doing?'

Failure on so many levels.

A Hill* for Polec deal might not be too bad - at least one of those can play if required :p

*fwiw I don't want Hill. Think we can do better.

Kinda ironic when you consider we don't have much draft capital this year.

4th highest...behind wc gc and gws. Obviously majority consumed in pick one but that can be liquidated

It will be interesting to see what offers they get - assuming Ashcroft goes at 1, we've effectively got pick 2, which is 2500 points. You'd think to trade it, you'd want a premium of say 10%, or 250 points, so a total of 2750, which is roughly pick 6 and pick 17. Lots of permutations

Yes we are extremely under prepared for modern footy, that is kind of exciting as well. The reasons have been discussed for numerous years and it is bewildering that football amateurs like us had picked up on that. Paid professionals not so much.

Oh well

But it shows that our problems are most physical conditioning than ability issues which isn't the worst news imo. I could see us finding room for Shiels, Hill and Acres very easily. Oh and Polec as well.

The 10/12 youngsters we have that have shown a bit can develop into professional footballers and men capable of withstanding the brutal game of AFL in the lower league, aint nothing wrong with that.

Clarko wants him, the potential future skipper now wants him. Was always the case when Jy got involved.
What was the CZ comments?

Convoluted trade on radio this morning had us swapping pick 1 for picks 5 and 7. Sam Edmund reckons we'd knock that back. I'd say it's overs.

I don't see why any of you are so piss scared of elder players like Hill, I get the knock on him as an individual player but we need experienced players to fill the gaps for just 1 season, 2 at best before our younger crop gets more experience themselves and more importantly fitness.

We can't run out games of footy, let alone have the skills under pressure to execute them whilst being fit enough. We need to cover our bases to allow room for actual improvement instead of stagnating with our players learning the same lessons they already learnt the past 2 years, to not bring in a coverage of players for us in the immediate short term would be negilible for our overall development as a team. Let's not forget footy's about ****ing winning not picking up 20 pick 1 drafts and languish for 10+ years like Carlton would until the right coach comes around to say "We have the crop, can we have a tilt?"

Well we have the right coach, we're gonna go up from here, we won't be top 8 but we shouldn't be 18th next year either, we've spent at least 4 years of this rebuild, and we technically should have made headway or one could call that the rebuild began in 2016. That's far too long.

Hill would be there for 1-2 seasons, two if he's lucky. He won't be a mainstay, just chill and let us play out the way we ought to if we actually want to rise in the next 3 years, next year can't be a 2 win season. It has to be a 6-7 win season, that's the new bar. We aren't getting there with our demographics this disparate.
