So we agree we need to make list changes because we have stagnented, but when players are spoke about for trade everyones up in arms apart from King i couldn't give a rats @rse who comes & gos i support the club not the player as long as we make progress & keep climbing that's all i ask.

I'd rather kick the coaches out personally. If the coach can't do it get someone who can. Just because we made a mistake re-signing him doesn't mean we have to keep doubling down.

Also helps when you have your own stadium, own area, star players come over and are basically incognito.....

On SM-F711B using BigFooty.com mobile app

Maybe but all we can do is fix our own shit up. Sides get all sorts of legs up and do nothing with it. GWS has had every free hit available and are nowhere near a flag. To me you don't whinge about sides that do things better, you model off them and try to join them. Sitting around complaining about how unfair the system is only keeps you where you are.

He looked good until Ratten smashed him in the media for taking that shot on goal. It was terrible to do it at the time, but it clearly affected him going forward.

Sapped what little confidence he had left, when in front of goals. Fantastic job, coach.

What an absolute crock of shit.
There are so many other things on which you and gringo2011 can attack Ratts on.

But this isn't one of them. The comments on Higgins were after the Pies game in Rd 1. Then over the course of the next 9 games, had games like the ones below.

In amongst others he was concussed twice and still managed to kick a goal in one of them.

The 4 or 5 weeks that followed that was the best football of his career.

I think he copped it more from Riewoldt and co than he did Ratten anyway

And I do, they were given them and it's a massive leg up, but I think that the stuff outside their academy stuff is also expertly managed as well. They have 2 gun recruiters. They spend the money where it should be spent on their footy department. They have missed finals twice in 20 years or something. Hard to fault that and especially seeing as most of their academy bonuses have been pretty recent. Like the Storm they just manage their club really really well. Geelong too. The feat of staying competitive while rebuilding is an extraordinary effort with equalisation measures trying to stop you from doing it.
Look i agree Sydney are well run no doubt scores on the board but in that past 20 years they had COLA proping them up outside of the cap which helped in getting marquee players in Hall & Buddy.

From memory, Ratts said he had a word with him at 3/4 time about it and was pleased in the last quarter, Higgins passed it to Gresh who was in a better position and we goaled.

The academy kids fell in our laps. King was a great get, Wilkie and Hayes were killing it in the star leagues. Highmore possibly delisting material, Sharman struggling to stay in the seniors. Steele was GWS picked and stolen, hardly us out with the clipboard watching hours of under 18s matches.

We have players but we struggle to draft and develop at the same rate as the bulk of afl clubs.
Owens was touted as a rookie pick and came on very strong.

Hard to say we got kissed on the dick with him.

We blew a lot of 2nd rounders on Freezer and Hanners types and then had to trade capital for unders to get back into the second rounds. It's like a pay-day loans type scenario where you never get on top of what you're spending and the interest keeps adding up.
Yes, absolutely.

That started under Bains, IIRC at least one set of management ago.

On the other hand, last year Gags and co finally extricated us from that treadmill.
Kudos for not only doing that, and providing us with a clean set of picks this year, but he nailed our draft picks and NGA’s as well.

Because of this I’d make the point that if you are to be critical of the Club’s list management, feel free to use last year as the point of difference. Prior to last year you probably have a reasonable argument, not so much since.

But of course, Gags is back under the pump to perform again this year.

As it should be.

thank God they listened to BF and walked away from Hartigan
The Saints have been linked to delisted Hawthorn defender Kyle Hartigan, but it’s understood he is not a serious option for Brett Ratten’s side.

I’d argue not serious and walking away are 2 different things.

Yeah it was no good recruiting Riewoldt, DalSanto, Montagna, Fisher, Goddard, Milne, Koschitski when the coach we had at the time was not up to it :/

We should have sold the players off to improve I guess.

Agree. My guess is we have plan A and B in the KPD space, and if all else fails Hartigan may still be plan C.

So Dusty's staying at the tiges for next year. If he manages to have a full preseason and then you add Hopper and Taranto, geez, all of a sudden they're flag faves.
Free agency has been brilliant for the top and big, rich clubs….
now whoever would have though it?

Lynch to the premiers. Cameron to the perpetual finals club, and now these two.

This will never be an equal competition no how much the powers that be spruik the “equalisation” BS.

Remember when we were getting De Goey. Now we hope that we get something good for Long and Clark and we need to come to terms with taking Hartigan ….. but not in a very serious way.

So that’s Cal Twomey/Riley Beveridge/Jason Gabelich and Daniel Cherny all saying Hunter Clark is gettable

They aren’t FAs. Going to cost a heap of picks and cash. They are going hard at a quick rebuild.

The only one out of contract is Long.

The other 2 should only leave on our terms.
