I don't think it's likely but if he from this point nominates the Eagles as the preferred option if strengthens our hand incredibly. We'd have no reason to pass over pick 2 (3).

This. I'm not sure him saying I'm happy to go to either club is a good thing for Melbourne, unless he (or his manager) have specifically said they'll go wherever Melbourne can get the best deal

If he just wants to get home, the PSD becomes real leverage

I’m very mixed on Jackson. Not convinced he’s the best use of our draft capital and salary cap

I don’t see how it happens but as you’ve suggested, if we can bring in Jackson using 2 and 20 whilst acquiring a first round pick from somewhere that’d be a great result. Seems unrealistic though

The only reason I think it’s slightly possible is because pick 5 and 20 is comfortably better than Fremantles 2 late 1sts and a 2nd or whatever their best offer will be imo

I’m terrified we’re going to overpay trade and salary wise for Jackson though, it wouldn’t surprise me if the blokes in charge of our club genuinely think Jackson will return us to finals next year lol

Would be pretty happy with the Amon compensation pick (early 2nd round) and Georgiades for Rioli and maybe a future 3rd? Jackson certainly would look better in blue rather than purple but I am more keen to build a great midfield again.

Sorry but Georgiades is going to cost far more than Rioli, not the other way around. I can see it being something like Rioli + 25 (I know we can't give it back but something around there or slightly later seems fair)

Edit: I should say I don't know if he is worth it at that price. Just if we are going to poach a contracted 21yo we aren't going to get a bargain.

Gold Coast gain: pick 2
Gold Coast lose: pick 5 (Rankine), pick 7

Melbourne gain: pick 5, Grundy
Melbourne lose: Jackson

West Coast gain: Jackson, pick 7
West Coast lose: pick 2, pick 20, Williams

Collingwood gain: pick 20, Williams
Collingwood lose: Grundy

But it depends on Gold Coast wanting to trade up which I’m not sure they do, Collingwood wanting Williams in as ruck depth which I’m not sure they would, and Melbourne accepting unders for Jackson simply because it’s probably still better than Fremantle’s offer. And I still don’t like it from our point of view.

Not sure about that. Inconsistent and dropped twice this year. There is nothing there that says he will make it.

So freo is probably going to have to use picks from players leaving the club like lobb, logue etc to get Jackson. They will have to sort this first to know what currency they have. Imagine them letting them go for picks and cap space thinking they are getting Jackson in to fill the role etc and then we swoop in at the end and steal Jackson. Would leave them with a big hole in their team albeit a better cap scenario and picks but that's not what they need right now given they are attempting a run now/in the next few years.
