What would the narrative be around the trade value of Jackson if it were Freo who’d used a high pick on him and he wanted a trade to Victoria?
Polar opposite, driven hard by Wheatley and the words "family" or "moral responsibility" used constantly!

Watts - pick 1 (174 games) Tall flanker never had the strength to hold down a key post
Naitanui - pick 2 (213 games) Athlete > Footballer. We got lucky he has maximised every opportunity
Vickery - pick 8 (125 games) Shit bloke shit player shit club
Davis - pick 10 (267 games) Done well!
Day - pick 3 (147 games) Athlete > Footballer. Unluckily never got the development he required as he could have become an absolute weapon
Longer - pick 8 (66 games) Plodder ruck. Enough said
Plowman - pick 3 (144 games) Reached for effectively a stopper full back
Stringer - pick 5 (172 games) Isn't a tall, more a good matchup on different types of defenders
Daniher - pick 10 (150 games) Probably goes top 3 without FS, was tracking to be a star until Essendon ruined him
P McCartin - pick 1 (57 games) Reached for a KPP, (over Petracca) was on track to be solid/reliable rather than an out and out star
Wright - pick 8 (109 games) Tweener doesnt dominate as either fwd/ruck but has been solid so far in that role
D Moore - pick 9 (125 games) Done well!
Weitering - pick 1 (133 games) Done well!
Schache - pick 2 (72 games) Reached for a KPP for go home reasons lol,
Weideman - pick 9 (59 games) Bemusing pick, has never looked up to AFL at any stage
McKay - pick 10 (86 games) Done well! One of the few who have actually outperformed projections

What it shows is that a lot of clubs reach for talls. Necessarily if you need to fit that spot yet most times you are getting a worse player🤷‍♂️
The sheer amount of busts of super high picks is actually astounding.
100% would have taken Boyd @ #1 and given him a $1 mill deal too

The former three were serviceable. We all mock Vickery now but back then he did his job effectively.

Weideman is an interesting case but for now he sits in the 'pass' category.
Day was serviceable in the sense that you need someone tall to fill a position, but you know he’s never going to win you a game of footy. Would never had played 100 games if it wasn’t an expansion club who kept losing KPF to other teams.

Plowman…I don’t really know how he managed to play so many games for Carlton. I guess when your side finishes near the bottom every year it’s easy to be serviceable.

As late as last night, Jackson to Fremantle was considered a foregone conclusion. Freo had pitched a role as a supersized mid or something s**t that had Jackson all excited

All of a sudden, he’s now just wanting to return to WA. It’s interesting that it’s based on a release from Melbourne who’s interests are best served by a bidding war. Nothing direct from Jackson or his management

Still think he goes to Fremantle

Do find it funny now though that some people mocked Nisbett for saying he still considered us a chance of landing Jackson. So whilst it may well be time for him to move on, perhaps he still does have some idea of what he’s doing.

Yes the wording today came from Melbourne FC.

Not from Jackson or his manager is my understanding.

Dees could just be trying to stir up a bidding war and in reality he's already chosen Freo.

Happy to split 2 for multiple picks to land him and then buy back into the 1st round using 2nd rounders.

The problem with Jackson is he's just as speculative as a draft pick. If we spend pick 2, we're banking on him either becoming a good forward (hasn't shown this ability to date), a league best ruckman or a tall mid (speculation is that is what Freo is going for). On current form he is a serviceable forward/ruck which you would usually recruit in the second round.

I'm not that into him. If we had nearly finished the rebuild and the ruck was the missing piece, I'd be keen. As it is, even if he suddenly become number 1 ruck, we don't have a good enough midfield to make a difference (look at our results with AA Nic Nat in 2020 and 21).

If we could somehow get Jackson while keeping a top 5 pick as well as next year's first, I reckon everyone would trip over themselves to sign that deal.

Can't see it happening.

Pick 2, 26 and our future 2nd for pick 5 and 7 from the Suns?

What does the super dooper pick index say? Is that about right points wise?

It a long shot. Pretty sure Suns would rather keep 5 and 7.

No way is he as speculative as an unproven draft pick. No way.

He's shown he isnt a bust that is the first thing.

Also there is no go home factor to worry about.

So those two knowns already put him ahead of an unproven Vic or SA kid at pick 2.

So Melbourne will be copying the Geelong pathway of saying he wants home and not to a specific club. Best wait until Luke or his agent respond on that one. I am OK with us going for Jackson but not at a high $ and not offloading too much in draft currency.

Georgiades - good player and an upgrade on Waterman but would prefer to soften the blow to Port in a trade of players. Besides I do not want both.

Proposed trade - Georgiades for Waterman and Rioli.

I would have thought Waterman would be a 3rd rounder (let's say pick 40).
I am expecting the Port compo for Amon for Rioli (pick 27)
Picks 27 and 40 equate to pick 15. Is that fair currency for Georgiades? I would have thought so given he is not signing up for longer.

I'd be very happy if we can come out of Trade Week with (not directly but end result);
Rioli for Georgiadis
Waterman/BWilliams for Meek
Rotham and/or Nelson (must have value elsewhere, have none with us but should) for a Devon Robertson type fringer that has more potential and younger than what we give up.
I personally think this could happen without touching any of our 1st 2 rounds of picks, (maybe 1 2nd and a shuffle of laters)

If we can then, have 2 1st Round picks either by splitting 2 (dont mind this) or using a few 2nds to get a 2nd 1ster and future 2nd as has been discussed and target best available mids, our team starts to look very different for the start of round 1 next year and we've ticked a lot of boxes for moving forward (pending credits in the bank team selection) but there is some genuine excitement/potential there for our rebuild.

Day was a super athlete that suffered from injuries and never was able to show that athleticism on the field. Actually a very good comp to Luke HJackson as a junior, both serious bball talents (AIS, national reps). There's a lot of injury risks for KPF/Ruck talents, as history shows.

Hawkins was an absolute stud as a junior, would def have been pick 1, and took quite a few years to turn good (year 6). Same draft, Leuenberger and Gumbletom both never lived up to hype mostly due to injuries. Kreuzer (2007) became less special due to injuries.

The other issue with using pick 2 on Jackson is that he theoretically makes our first rounder next year worse as he “should” help us win more games next year. That’s a lose lose.

On that basis, you must be thrilled that we aren't making any changes to our fitness, medical, recuiting or list management teams then? Lock Nelson and Witherden in for another year too? :tearsofjoy:

Well that makes me feel a bit better

I don't see anyway Freo is able to procure a top 10 pick

It will likely be this years 1st and next years 1st, maybe a future second too

We want more pick though don't we? (Preferably top 30) 5 this year, likely same next year.
If we were close to a full list then quality over quantity is the correct call. But we have all spots to fill.
Gold coast are in that exact position, and likely take only the minimal picks.
