Herald Sun just dropped their final phantom if anyone has access

Don’t have access to the article but listening to the podcast:

-Hewett is likely to slide to back end of first or early second due to behavioural concerns, with GWS interested (I still believe Eagles are a strong chance to take him at 12 FWIW)
-Sydney interested in Barnett in the first round
-Eagles expected to take Kaleb Smith and Darcy Jones in the second round
-Tsatas has flipped as the leading contender for bombers first pick, over Phillipou, after the training session at Gosher’s paddock (apparently tore it apart)
-Eagles may bid on Alwyn Davey

1. Cadman (GWS)
2. Ashcroft (BL - match Norf bid)
3. Wardlaw (Norf)
4. Sheezel (Norf)
5. Tsatas (Ess)
6. Humphrey (GC)
7. Phillipou (Haw)
8. Clark (Gee)
9. Ginbey (WCE)
10. Busslinger (StK)
11. Fletcher (BL - match Carl bid)
12. Hollands (Carl)
13. Allan (WB)
14. Mackenzie (WCE)
15. Jefferson (Melb)
16. Weddle (Syd)
17. Hewett (GWS)
18. Ryan (Coll)
19. Barnett (Syd)
20. Clarke (GWS)
21. Hayes (GWS)
22. Davey (Ess - match WCE bid)
23. Jones (WCE)
24. Michalanney (Adel - match WB bid)
25. George (WB)
26. Cowan (Norf)
27. Gruzewski (Haw)
28. Hustwaite (Coll)
29. Smith (WCE)
30. Richards (Coll)

So reading between the lines and order of preference from what I gather?

Mackenzie; Balanced Midfield, just ticks all the boxes.
Poo; Highest Ceiling, big body midfield with X factor.
Clark; Selwood leader, is determined and ultimate professional.
Tsatas; Speed, accumulator, good kick but outside.
Ginbey; WA Local, big bodied, aggressive and he is local

He definitely left the door open for that didn’t he which likely means Busslinger if he slides or Jefferson as possibilities
I wouldn't be opposed to it, if we could nail later picks to address midfield, small fwd needs;

  • Mackenzie (likely Ginbey)
  • Jefferson
  • George
  • Szybkowski

Or

  • Mackenzie (likely Ginbey)
  • Jefferson
  • Hewett
  • Burgiel

I’d be spewing if we took Jones over Hotton/Burgiel/George/Keeler.

It’s not Jones height that is a concern it’s his small frame. Those 4
look like better prospects.

Link to Herald Sun phantom draft is below

2022 Media Draft Rankings & Phantom Drafts

Has us taking Ginbey, Mackenzie, Jones and Smith.

I’d be stoked if Mackenzie fell to our second pick.

Would be very happy with that haul.

Here is the HUN

I would take that draft haul very happily

8 = Ginbey
12 = Mackenzie
20= Jones
26 = Smith

Whilst I would have preferred Hotton or Burgiel to Jones, that is hitting the briefing.

That said, difficult to understand the prediction of the Saints going the Bus and leaving Mackenzie. They have Battle about the same size as the Bus and although Ross likes his defence first strategy, he showed before he prioritises the midifield.

We’ve only got the ability to take four early picks if we’re keeping that late pick to match a bid on Dewar, pick up a slider or generally hedge our bets.

So trading for 14 or 17 is effectively only upgrading pick 26.

Keep that in mind.
This doesn’t make sense unless we rate Dewar at 26 or higher.

If it’s a decision between using 26 as our 5th pick or matching for Dewar, I’d say we would take the risk that he doesn’t get a bid.

Get Hewett back off GWS in a year or two also!

The key to taking a tall at 12 is to nail 8 with an balanced mid. That to me is Mackenzie, Clark, Hollands and Hewett.

I think we then add Hotton or Burgiel at 20 and then Szybkowski at 26. As you know, I had Szybkowski at 21 when you Monocle and I did a calibration exercise in September.

Because of Culley on our books already, I would be happy to add Szybkowski at 26 as the inside mid and hence my interest at Ginbey at 8 is lower.

Recap - If the Pieman wants a tall at 12
8 - one of Mackenzie, Clark, Hollands and Hewett (in that order)
12 - Busslinger or Jefferson
20 - Hotton or Burgiel
26 - Szybkowski or Smith

No Hotton, Keeler or Burgiel in the HUN top 30 mock is interesting.

I'm always keen for the surprise who doesn't get drafted, who we then get all excited for as the rookie draft approaches, only for them to not get drafted again, or they end up having a Trew-like career.

As if the clubs know something we don't. Pffft.

Hewett has shown he has the inbuilt desire to chase greatness.

Leaving an inferior school like Guildford to attend a superior school like Scotch is the prelude to leaving GWS for West Coast.

Bring it on.

Apparently Keeler’s 2km time trial at the combine was so poor Murray Newman would’ve lapped him. Too much work involved in getting him motivated and up to scratch.

Reading the HUN mock, I like the fact that we have done a lot of work on Mackenzie.

He is my tip for us at pick 8

Saints will be pissed and look to possibly go Jefferson to partner King.
Blues are on record to say they want midfield - especially outside run so Hollands and Allen look right
Bulldogs are supposedly tossing up outside speed or KPD so Allen or Busslinger.

So if we take Mackenzie with 8, we could well get Ginbey at 12.
