We’ve all wanted Heaney but ended up with a younger and better version (Owens). We are now pretty well stacked for hybrid mid forwards.

The Hammer adds a bit of tall forward depth. Our best 6 defenders is very good but we probably lack a bit of depth in that area.

I would love an elite small pressure forward like a Pickett type.
It's a shame we didn't chase Bobby Hill. Stengle made Geelong go to a new level.
Ollie Hotten will be a very good pick up IMO

I know he pushed up into the midfield as the year went on but I see him playing mostly up forward. He's got speed and goal sense

Worth keeping an eye on the likes of Wingard and Amon this year i reckon.

Neither will be thrilled about getting flogged every week for the next couple years.
Would come cheap trade wise you would expect.

If we have a good year and make finals etc either or both would suit our needs, especially if gresh and/or nwm leave
Would rather be in Mackenzie’s ear

It will be interesting if SOS has already met with De Koning's management , his son is being said to be moved on to free cap space to keep DeKoning - we have space in our salary cap so I wonder if they will go all out for De Koning or just go all in on Ben King.
I fully expect SOS will make a few big moves this trade period.
A lot to play out with Gresham as a free agent and Milera not signing yet and there are a few others that still have no contract after this year as in Clark and Coffield.

Tbh don’t want a bar of either of them, either bring in difference makers at a position of need or hit the draft, don’t want these B Grade types clogging the list up

RTB wants A graders or youth.

So no need to worry about the likes of Amon.

With SOS at the helm now you would think we are gonna be pretty interested in TDK, not sure how much I really want him, another one I’d be keeping an eye on is Paddy Dow, not necessarily due to wanting him but the SOS connection

I’m hoping with Ross here and us winning hopefully more games than we are losing, some bigger FA’s may like the look of us in the coming years.

A noble sentiment- but the whole point is to win a flag.

There is a LOT of examples of teams winning flags after bringing in ready to go, experienced roleplayers.

The tigers did it, the hawks did it etc etc.
Hell we even did it with ross mk1 bringing in guys like dempster and schnider

Our window for challenging for a flag is the next 3 years.
All of marshall, wilkie, steele, sinclair, howard etc etc will be over 30 after that.

Those guys are at the peak of their powers now (and the next few years).

We have been rebuilding for a decade- collecting 'youth' needs to now take a lower priority. We need to maximise our ability to win a flag in the next few years.

Not saying amon or wingard are exactly what we want or need if gresh and/or nas leave.

But my point is- if they do leave, we'd be idiots to not look in the first instance at getting ready to fire (in finals) players into the starting 22.

Because the bulk of our best 22 are in their prime years right now. (Just like it was during ross mk1)

We put our nuts on the line firing ratten because it was the right thing to do based on our list age profile.
(Ie we were supposed to be in flag contention)

We need to put our nuts on the line again and look at list management in terms of winning a flag with steele, wilkie, marshall, sincs in their prime.

I think it was on the first episode of “Gettable” this year that Cal’s way too early prediction for the year was Paddy Dow to St Kilda.

The boys mentioned have at least 3-4 years of good footy ahead of them though, once we have a full allotment of players back you’re going to be seeing the likes of Zak Jones, Jack Billings running around at Sandy, I don’t see any of Amon or Wingard as an improvement on Jones or Billings, same same for me, we want top end talent either via trade/FA or draft knocking blokes out of the side not bloody Karl Amon or Chad Wingard, two blokes who run one way and not the other

At least someone like a Dow is young, under the Ross regime maybe it could bring the best out of him, the other guys are known commodities
