If Shane kills it in SANFL next week then you’d think he’d have to come back in. Is obviously internally rated

Yeah Murphy and McAdam play different roles, but we can re-structure. If that re-structure doesn’t work, make Murphy sub and bring him in halfway through the R7 game
3 weeks off without a game under his belt ....it was always predictable, with selection pressure, he'd go back to the SANFL

Think he'll play SANFL next week, given no injuries from the win this week

Murphy has been pretty damn good for a few weeks now..

Cant see him going out.

Always want to see him more midfield than forward though.

And his smothering in D50 has been awesome to watch. That shit is so underrated.. it lifts the entire team when team mates see that stuff and can help change momentum and deflate opposition teams.

Just had another look at Saturdays stats. Doedee's figures are magic.

Geeezuz..

Have a look at Dawsons.

Pleasing to see Milera’s stats are rising too after a somewhat quieter start to the year.. and especially given how much they pumped him up over the preseason..

49.25 between Rankine, Tex, Fog, Rachelle, Thilthorpe. Could be better, Tex and Rankine a bit wasteful at times.

The forward line is clicking like we hoped it would pre season.
Best spread of goals since 2017.

Milera is just so smooth when playing well. McLeod like movement. Hope he keeps on that trajectory. Just thinking of that incident in the goal squre with the Carlton player holding on to his leg. Just looked cool under pressure.

😂

It’s the Adelaide football club not the Shane McAdam football club

Who gives a fk if he’s missed 4 weeks , if he does his thing he will earn his spot back , plain and simple

And it might not necessarily be at the expense of Murphy as I think you’ll find they play pretty different roles

What are you on about? Think your self adulation in this thread has caused your head to swell so much there isn't enough oxygen getting through to your brain.

My point is that McAdam was first choice and has now missed a chunk of footy so will need to come through the 2's. Thats what the 4 weeks comment was about.

But please, go back to telling everyone in this thread about your correct predictions!

Murphy's had a good couple of weeks, and full credit to him. We need guys like him in our squad to come in and play a meaningful role and actively contribute, until others with greater ability can and should take his place, once they work through injury, form or development.

He's the kind of dude who makes those should be in the 22 ahead of him, earn their spot. Which is a very good thing.

But if he's still in our 22 by years end for reasons other than injury to others, I'll be bloody disappointed.

We’d be 5-0 if..

1) we kicked straight in the first 2 rounds.

And

2) Dawson asked/told Nicksy to play him in the centre from round 1..

1) Overall, yes.

2) the Keays hate is exaggerated bile and I don't know why he doesn't see that.
eg Keays was 3rd in 2022 B & F, with 88 votes. That's about 4 votes per round, every round. More, if you exclude games where he didn't score.
There is just no way he's "absolute garbage".

3) I dunno. I don't know if he looks at his role in it. I didn't know about the 2022 Brownlow thing.
Maybe he could ask himself "Why am I getting tagged about Ben Keays?".
George Kramer made a thread about getting Jones wrong, as many of us did. Goodonim. I blame the Coaches a lot for confusing the poor kid, but he's past that now.
People have been wrong about other players too, eg Fogarty (who used to look lazy and disinterested to me, but he's a potent force now, for sure).
I made a blunder about Roo's comments during the week and was pulled up, quick-smart, and fair enough too.

There's no shame in getting something wrong, admitting it and moving on, but it starts to look unfairly stubborn when people just dig in.

That incident is just another example of how dumb the current crop of AFL umpires are.

Milera was standing up.. ball in hand looking the umpire, who was barely 10m away, with an expression of “this bloke is literally holding me back from running by grabbing my ankles” on his face.. and the umpire didnt call it.

It was only when Milera actually fell to the ground trying to then run off that the ump finally called the “legged” free kick!

It was comical stuff.. but thats what the umpiring has become.

And I agree with what Kelly Underwood (i think it was her) said the other day during the Freo game against the crows.. theres definitely been a fair few occassions where there has been a large lag in the decision making of the umps.. like they are too scared to make a quick decision that their fellow umps might not agree with..

Its incompetence. the protect the umpires movement has created a feeling from the umpires department that they dont need to improve from their mistakes. I'm sure they try to improve but without the pressure to improve because of criticism ultimately the need to be better than the bare minimum is removed.

Fair enough, I already know who you’d drop for McAdam ;)

Maybe they need an additional/additional umpire for the obvious frees they miss.;) Who is training these guys. Specsavers.

And Worrell back soon too

This selection pressure is something we haven’t had since 2017 and I barely remember it being this prominent then as well

It’s got to help prevent complacency from playing group from week to week, very good
Agreed, it just helps to build the total form of the team, players constantly trying to get the best out of themselves and the team. Otherwise sudden death

The umpire was about to pay holding the ball. He seemed so excited. Right in front of the cheer squad when the Blues were closing.

Changed his mind mid-whistle when the tackle slipped down. Was forced into paying the trip. I'd describe his body language as: Crestfallen.

I wonder if Silvagni will get cited for swinging the leg and tripping him?

And it's about selecting the best side. I still don't think Murphy is that good.

He is in the same group as players like Rowe, McHenry, Petrenko, etc. They are good enough to be on a list, should dominate at SANFL and can be very handy to perform a role in a good side, but really lack an elite trait to be automatic best 22 players.

Due to the obscene amount of forward line talent - we can carry 1-2 defensive forwards. Keays is correctly getting first crack. He can go into the middle (attending about 20% of centre bounces a game) and also has the tank/athleticism to tag a half back like Saad.

I would still prefer us to go in with Fog, Walker, TT, Peds, Rankine, Keays and McAdam as our primary 7 forwards (resting Rachele as our 8th).

Murphy is next one in, with McHenry to follow - although I would just love to have the club give Newchurch a block of 3 game. Seems like the type that will either sink or swim at AFL.
Keays, Murphy, Neddy, ROB, Sholl are the type of players that will most likely fall by the wayside as the club seriously contends. The club has shown that they won't be shy in trading in players to fix any weak links.

ROB won't unless we trade in a gun ruck or draft someone who instantly becomes a great player. As frustrating as he can be he is still serviceable and one of the better rucks in the league at this stage.

Put it this way, I can’t ever recall thinking:

“geez, player x is unlucky to miss out but player y has shown sufficient form to retain their spot/come in. I’m happy whichever way selection goes.”

As Nicks says, form is fleeting but to have the likes of Berry, McAdam and Worrell to come back, and to have guys like Shoenberg, Crouch, Hateley not in the immediate discussion is very strange indeed.

I feel for Taylor and Nank- they’re gonna be waiting a while for a shot.

We’d be 5-0 if..

1) we kicked straight in the first 2 rounds.

And

2) Dawson asked/told Nicksy to play him in the centre from round 1..

Maybe. Perhaps not Richmond as we were smashed early
In terms of Dawson - the reason he asked/told Nicks was due to the two losses, so if we had of kicked straight and won those games 100% Dawson wouldn’t have played mid yet so the other 3 games may have seen different results.

Sliding doors

Can’t see a ready to go ruckman we could trade for. All seem fairly tightly held at the moment and those available are either no good or still developing. Hopefully we do trade for a 22/23 yr old though to start building some pressure on him - because clearly as a club Strachan is not going past ROB

And jury still deliberating on Sholl but he is looking more and more like making it than not. He has taken a couple of great marks supporting the backline over the past few weeks as well as his elite running and quality kicking
