What you wrote is utterly irrelevant. You're the one quoting me, and "at the time" refers to the draft and "standout prospects" aligns with what I said prior to the draft. You're the one pretending to know what I thought at the time and selectively quoting me to make it align with your gag routine. You could have used the dozens of posts where I state Martin is the most exciting prospect in the draft, or maybe glanced at the multiple posts where I'm critical of Melbourne not doing interviews with Martin.

Why don’t you use one of those dozens of posts then? Instead of one where you say Martin was the second best midfielder.

Stop trying to rewrite history and pretend you picked the best player in the draft, and I’ll stop pointing out that you didn’t.

I would like to see us track the progress of these two over the next month or so, with a view to potentially drafting in the MSD.

Luke Teal vs Sam Gilbey

Both creative rebounding defenders with good kicking skills, both had injuries that hampered their preparation during their draft year (Teal - Appendicitis & Collar bone, Gilbey - Broken Leg). None of these injuries project as being an issue moving forward - tick tick

Pretty much same height but Gilbey very lightly built - 75kg….. Teal @ 80kg.

Teal has had a great start to the VFL season, best on in his 2nd game of senior footy. Gilbey started well in the ressies for Claremont and is pushing for senior selection. However, probably coming from a little further back just from the nature of his injury.

Right now, both pretty similar players but it seems as though Teal has an additional string to his bow with an ability to really lockdown on talls and smalls. That coupled with his body being a bit more ready for the rigours of senior footy, I’m taking him.

Others may see things differently
100% should be tracking both, bit shocked they didn't get drafted.

AFL has assigned the pick values of the R1 picks as follows:
1 — 3000

2 — 2517

3 — 2234

4 — 2034

5 — 1878

6 — 1751

7 — 1644

8 — 1551

9 — 1469

10 — 1395

11 — 1329

12 — 1268

13 — 1212

14 — 1161

15 — 1112

16 — 1067

17 — 1025

18 — 985

Therefore, pick 1 should worth roughly pick 8 + pick 9 (2 x 1st round picks) OR pick 16 + pick 17 + pick 18 (3 x 1st round picks). Supply and demand will determine whether this 2023 pick 1 worths more than the designated 3000 points.
I received two persons disagreeing to my statements.
1. The first part is mathematics based on what has been pushlished by AFL.
2. The second part is supply and demand might increase the value of the 2023 pick 1 (based on this point system).

Most people including myself think that the draft system need improvement. However, it is wrong to say the above mentioned is not the system currently in use.

They are facts and i think those two need to explain why they disagree with the facts.

While that is true, just because pick one if worth 3000, that doesn't mean that we should be getting picks in the late teens or picks 8+9 just because it's equivalent it even more than 3000 points. If the club really did that then the fans will go full nuclear especially me.

With a player of Reid's potential caliber, more than 3000 points is needed so clubs looking to pay up must pay more than 3000 points in picks. As you mentioned supply and demand for Reid or some gun skyrocketing prospect if they maintains their form will push his value up much higher than 3000 points.

I'm getting the impression that you want the club to trade for picks 8+9 or picks 16, 17 and 18 which is unders IMO for a player like Reid. For picks 8+9 you gotta add either a F1 or another picks in the late teens. You would need more than that if the club is gonna trade away pick 1.

The AFL assigned those points values for the express purpose of matching academy or father son bids.

NOT for working out what’s deemed fair or not fair in regards to trading picks.

The trading of picks existed before the points system was introduced.

Of course clubs will look for any way possible to get an advantage within a system. The AFL has introduced rules over time to prevent clubs completely gaming the draft points system.

Hopefully tonights viewing choices puts focus on priority picks for wce and north. Surely both teams need an extra pick even if its just end of R1. Must be something like 4 wins in the last 30 games for both teams.

North already got one, we deserve it now.
