They've got possibly the best forward line in the comp, up against a team that relies a lot on makeshift defenders, supported by runners. We were gonna need a lot of pressure and time in our forward half to keep them quiet today. Just never looked like getting that gridlock going from Q1. Sometimes we have those games in SA and WA. Like we're our of our element. Makes me even sh1ttier that we weren't able to do the same to Port at home.
Doesn't excuse the performance... Sometimes it takes a stinker to justify good changes. Plenty enough justification today.

Howard is terrible
Standard game from him.

Six shakes off the head five points at team mates , seven hurls of abuse to teams mates .

Beaten when one out every time , but good to see he has added layers to his game with managing to get a kick under seemingly stuff all pressure smothered .

Absolute leader among men.

Some very concerning signs. Our ball movement has completely disappeared and I think our defence is about to be found out with quick ball movement. Will be interesting to see if it can hold up because a similar thing happened to Freo last year. Not sure what happened to our awesome runners.

Can’t win a flag with Dougal as your #1 key back.

I don’t understand why teams over-invest in tall players particularly when we started so well without them. Caminiti, Membrey, Sharman, Owens and Phillipou is too tall up forward when you’ve got Wood on the wing as well. I’ll never understand being taller in the forward line than we are in defence.

Can't remember the last time Steele dominated a game of football. He is not an A grader, and really no better than Crouch.

They are good footballers, but B grade only. The midfield is horrible. It's time to stick our best player in there permanently in Sincs, and start playing Owens in the middle. Need some elite talent in there.

Abundantly clear we still lack a leader to arrest drops in competitiveness like today.

Steele no, Wilkie no, other seniors no.

Hardest competitors we have have not played a seasons worth of footy. Which is simultaneously exciting and frightening.

From here, bold with selection and bold in the off season.

May also need an alternative plan from the boundary hugging which has been worked out for weeks now.

Seb Ross was 5th for possessions for the Saints. Plenty worse than him
What did he do with them though? I think Seb was good last year and great to start this year but his last two weeks have been unacceptable.

Time for a statement at selection.

Out: Membrey (concussion), Ross, Paton, Sharman, Byrnes, Bytel
In: King, Windhager, Webster, Gresham, Billings

Byrnes sub

We were hilarious out there today
I think there are far more apt adjectives than “hilarious” that we could use for today’s performance.
But I wouldn’t want to get banned.

What if we played with only the young guys in the midfield AND won?
We definetly need a better mix in there.

Bring back Windy and play him in the middle like he trained all preseason and dominated. Increased Owens time in the middle once King and Membrey are playing. At risk of starting it all again, I do think Phillipou needs a rest but get him to Sandy, play a few games in the midfield then bring him back with that confidence and rotate him in there. Crouch/Steele/Ross will need to learn to play a 2nd position.

First early match of the year (12:40 central start), reckon our preparation was poor, looked asleep in the first quarter and the game was over from there.

I'm reaching, but I need something logical to explain how bad that start was.

Well that went well.

sunny3193 i said I hope we win so you can enjoy some of the Barossa's finest - well... how about a commiseration drop instead.

Awful stuff. Crows played well, no doubt there. But our basic skills are seriously concerning, a genuine inability to hit a target by either hand or foot. Our inside 50s are regularly misguided, a shank, bomb, or just a bad decision (3 on 1).

Again we look like the Saints of old. Its been coming the last few weeks.

Ok, side-splitting

Put crouch Steele and Ross inthe seconds and give Pou Owens and windy a genuine match as the MAIN mids.

Watch the replay of those possessions

The 3 kicks into 50 LOL disgraceful

2 turnovers from him in the 1st quarter that resulted in goals for the crows
