Got to feel bad for Dow. Declines a trade, vows to fight for his spot, plays his mind out on VFL footy absolutely dominating but gets shut down by the coaches.

He showed character with his decision then backing it up on field, the coaches are letting him down with opportunity.
"Declined a trade". To whom? The most common version of events was that he was offered up for trade but there were no takers with his salary reported to be somewhere in the $450K - $500k mark (and Carlton not prepared to pay any of it) as such he decided to stay. As a result we had to move Will Setterfield on to clear some cap space.

Some will have Paddy canonised into "Saint Paddy the patron saint of lost careers" shortly.

Paddy Dow omission is very harsh

This place has gone nuts.

There’s people genuinely advocating for a coach sacking after a fringe player was not named on a Thursday after a win hahah.

I’ve got nothing against Dow. At all. He’s done well coming on as the sub the last few weeks. He’s actually quite a good fit for that role.

But him coming on with 15 mins to go and looking great when everyone else is gassed and we’re 50 points up doesn’t prove anything. It’s not his fault but he hasn’t played a meaningful minute of footy in the seniors this year.

He now has played 3 quarters of footy in a month and if he’s not being elevated into the 22, and after our last game I don’t think anyone deserves to be dropped, then going back to the VFL makes sense.

I’d have no problem with him being elevated and given a proper go in the 1s but the suggestions of it being a conspiracy or a reflection of poor culture are baseless and rubbish.

Paddy is bigger than anyone on this chat could even fathom. See we can develop a player . Ready to go .

Team to beat Hawthorn based on the squad listed

Not happy about Pitto, if Silvagni is playing then we get effort but gee it cuts our chances of centre clearance scores.

I say play Binns and reward him for magoos form.

For the sub I say play Hewett - I thought he did okay as sub v Pies and feel that this sort of player has been our best sub ie Kennedy

In: Binns, Silvagni,
Out: Cotters, Pitts, Dow (sub)

B: Boyd Weiters Kemp
HB: Newman Gov Saad
C: Walsh Cripps Acres
HF: Cuningham Harry JSOS
F: Fogarty Charlie Martin

R TDK Cerra Docherty

Int: Kennedy (M, F), Binns (W), Owies (F), Cincotta (B)

Sub: Hewett

So how does he get a game?

Fogarty walked straight into a full game as did Martin and Cunningham.
We’re predominantly playing 2 inside mids, 2 balanced mids and then another one or two cameo/burst players. Then Dow’s been coming on as the sub for the last few weeks.

From how I’m seeing it, for him to start, it has to be playing instead of Cripps or Kennedy as one of the two inside mids.

I don’t think we want to play the 3 inside mids and push Walsh or Cerra out to accomodate him.

Despite him kicking goals in the vfl (although not as much this year) my memory is most of them are playing on-ball, but when the play is in the F50, not really playing as a forward.

Fog mainly plays mid in the 2s but he seems to be fairy aware of positioning and where to be as a forward. I’m picking DC and Martin as (predominantly) forwards ahead of Dow every day of the week.

It’s awkward but it happens at other clubs too. While they’re a little different in profile, players like Jarryd Lyons, Will Brodie and Matt Crouch are pretty much locked in the reserves these days because teams are playing less pure inside mids in favour of having more dynamic, running players in the mix.

It seems some on here are so determined to have a melt that they're not even willing to wait until the game has been played.

JSOS is in for Pitto. Literally the most obvious change possible given that Pitto is injured.

Cotts replacement is not yet known, with Binns a possibility. You'd think that would defer the melts for at least a day until the 22 are announced, but apparently not.

Dow was never likely to come into the 22. All that's happened is he's getting a full game in the VFL instead of the possibility of yet another sub game. Hardly all that controversial.

Hewett on the extended bench, telling us he's, what, in the best 26 of the players that are currently available. Which he probably is, if his hand is better now?

But never mind any of that, because it's all about:

Yeh mate, we are all sitting here each week praying Carlton play terribly and the match committee make mind boggingly decisions so we can have a melt.

It has nothing to do with us being in the bottom 4 (again) year after year

They had to send him back to get a full game if they couldn't find a spot for him. I'd be more puzzled if they dropped a player without any other reason than they wanted to give Dow a game. Who deserved to be dropped?
Here’s something to ponder. Give Dow a full game in the 1’s.

Fogarty could easily play as sub.
