Cause we don’t ******* want him.

And that’s is 100% the correct course of action

Then Logue blows a knee 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
What did the team expect? Our depth is Bonar. We could potentially move Comben to be a roaming CHB ala ‘08 Petrie with great success. The only problem with that is that we would then have no protection for Larkey or forward depth in the likely circumstance of a major big man injury.

Think it has to be a stopgap for a couple of years.
Probably a player that’s been in the system Oscar McDonald or even our old mate durds

Yep, we don't need to be offering crazy contracts to the Esava's of the world to cover Griff for half a season we aren't going to be competitive in anyway. We need a fill in for six months and to play the long game on building an elite defence.

Dawson is there already, look at Tomlinson and Ballard, rookie Lienert for a year, have a word with Hurn or Davis for a few games and a coaching role.

Fu k en f u k Bonar is all I have to say.

Dawson will lead us to the promised land.

Good grief

Take Nick Haynes salary on board.

We get an experienced high end professional in an area of desperate need and a pick as well.
Yes. Something like this would be very smart.
Our back 6 mix has been stuck in how the game was played 20 years ago. Time to build a back 6 that can play the modern game.

Drafting someone like Philactides/Roberts
/best running hbf prospect, with dash and skill, with our Port pick + a big preseason from Bergman and Goater.

All of a sudden we have 3 good sized half backs that can run, defend and kick. They need to get games together.

I’m all for getting in a stop gap or two (particularly KPD), but I’d be using this as an opportunity to build a back 6 that can set us up long term.

I’d be very reluctant to be trading anything of high value to address this issue for the short term. Oppo clubs will smell the desperation. Kinda like how Port knew we were desperate for “outside run”, enter Jared Polec…
Exactly. Build what we want to have long term. Don't destroy the next 4 years because we want a better backline at the start of next season.

Yep, this, let's not blow up the whole strategy because of one hurdle.

Get Nick Haynes. Put him next to Corr and/or Dawson. There's a decent chance that Curtin is best available. Develop Goater. Sign Hunter Clark.

The defense will hold up until Logue is back.

Get Haynes and draft a KPD with the pick that comes with him - and then Haynes can tutor his replacement.

Its no secret that our backline is the issue.

The saving grace is that backlines are easiest to fix - much easier than the long process of drafting then blooding enough top liners to completley rebuild a midfield.

Not only are there good examples of this outside our club - look at what the Dees did recruiting Lever and May as plug and play KPDs - but also Clarko is a master of this, having repeatedly recruited ready mades to fit his system to great effect.

Imo our backline was getting a cleanout at the end of the year anyway and they're far more focused on building the system rather than players, and would have been bringing in players to fit the system regardless.

Obviously the Logue injury is gutting, but I reckon a full burn down and rebuild job on the backline was happening regardless.

Will be very interested to see who we target in the off season.

Who have you got running around in state leagues that can fill a key position defender role until we can develop our own.
Oscar Mcdonald , limited but these are the types we might need to look at for a short term role?
Is Petric still showing promise?
How is Mutaz El Nour going at Richmond?

Any key position forwards looking ok as we might have to move Comben back?
I was an advocate last year of looking at Jake Stein from the Giants, seen a fair bit of him and he’s AFL quality. Stuck behind Mac Andrew at the Suns now.

He’d do a job for us and cost nothing.

Haynes has to be the play surely. Along with hunter clarke and possibly one journeyman KPB even a Tim O’Brien from the dogs. If we could also find a small fwd even a nick hind type and turn them into a fast lockdown rebounding defender our whole defence would be completely different.
Eg:
McDonald Corr Hind
Clarke Haynes Bergman/Goat

Could we try re-inventing Chom as a key defender for next year?
Not quite sure that helps our forward line but old school here (Kraks) thinks a young forward spending a year in the backline isn’t a bad thing

We don't really have the luxury of that because of the equally bad, if not worse KPF situation.

Richmond won premierships with a small forward line. We're not completely without options down there.

Chom at least competes which is a start. No way could you send CCJ back there.
