AFL Player #13: Nik Cox - Subbed out vs GCS

He is so blatantly being played out of position. Couldn't catch a cold during covid, and will likely never develop the link up play or skills to be a winger.
Needs to play with the ball in front of him at all times. Screams backman.

With some confidence he could be the player who kicks 3 goals and takes a match-saving mark in defence running up and down the wing. He seriously has that in him. He needs to have games under his belt is all.

He doesn't find the ball enough for that to be a thing. We are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and wasting a third year of his development

Heppells spot.

A good addition would be bringing in baldwin. Even better management, we decided to play baldwin down forward tonight. Wtf are we actually doing, no wonder our players can’t develop.
Glad to see Baldwin FWD

Have been calling for it for weeks

Baldwin will still be a chance to play back next week for Ridley but id rather see him FWD and Cox Back

Heppell i thought was quite good tonight especially early, but i didnt watch it super closely

Spent a fair bit of time watching him tonight. That was absolutely insipid. He just sort of jogs around in circles at half-speed and quite blatantly has no idea where to position himself to impact the game.

He doesn't look fit at all. His attack on the ball and the contest was very poor. He has absolutely no intensity whatsoever. He looked very poor at ground level. The "unicorn" looked like any other 200cm bloke when trying to pick up the ball, it took him 5 minutes to get his hands down to ground level.

I wouldn't drop him after one game, no way at all. And a lot of it is not his fault. But he does need to up his intensity at the contest.

From the coaches' point of view, FFS figure out wtf he is. I'll give you three options at his size. He's is either a:
  1. Ruckman
  2. Key back
  3. Key forward
In any other role he WILL be a failure.

Heppell doesn’t help the way we play at all. Can’t play on anyone really, and is woeful at moving the ball quickly. So if we are setting our team up for the future, why are we bothering. He’s got back to some decent form, but does it really help us in the long term.

Wouldnt think many low 90kg guys are successful in those positions

We still have an eye on finals and rightfully so

Whether tonight changes that or not, im not sure. I dont think it really does is the way id lean

They can't develop because we don't throw them straight into the top grade in a totally different position to the one they've trained for and played in for all of pre season and over 3 quarters of the actual season?

that's what she said?

can we still do those jokes? i don't even know any more. probably not.

Did he look even skinnier last night than a couple of years ago or was that just me?
Looks like he may always have D Fletcher arms. There could be something in that…

Screamed of a guy who had no idea how the system worked and where he should be, he was like everyone during the Rutten rein, like a remote control car with a busted wheel going in circles
It gets shown up even more in games where the team defense falls over. He does not know if he should press up or hold his width and gets caught under the footy. I am not sure they are doing him any favors trying to teach him wing at AFL level. I do not think he is a wing but clearly if they want to play him wing then he should have been given 8 weeks of wing only in the VFL.

I have always been a fan but I have a bad feeling that he is an outside player that does not like a lot of physical contact .

He was incredibly soft last night but can’t hang him on one game with no fitness or confidence or defined role.

It’s up to the coaches to find his role, then he can be judged.
