A lot of people on here loathe SOS and the prospect that he may recruit a bunch of Carlton and GWS players.. No issue with that approach if it involves young under appreciated players and they doesn’t cost a lot. It’s the fastest way to rejuvenate a list super short on mids.

1. Dow - inside mid 23 yr (former pick 3) 3rd round

2. Philp - inside mid, quick 22 yr (former pick 18) 4th round

3. Carrol - balanced mid, 20 yr (former pick 40) 3rd round

4. Binns - Wing / half back 18 yr (former pick 32) 3rd round

If we land 2-3 of them, can really speed up the midfield improvement and run from half back (binns)
Note Carlton is overstocked in mids, so they won’t get a chance anytime soon. People will turn their nose up, but this is how we got our current captain Steele, Membrey, Stocker, Camaniti.

Meanwhile we still strengthen our draft hand by getting another 1st round and 2nd round from Gresham, Howard, Clarke, Billings.

Plus:
Henry - 2nd round
Thomlison - free

No flag since 66. Our fans are constantly frustrated with our lack of stars and tortured by watching sub par players. Then it gets to the off-season and most of the same posters then suggest veteran mediocre players and washed blokes who will stunt the development of our young guys and forever keep us in mediocrity and wonder why we don't improve. Rinse repeat.
Maybe we keep suggesting this every year because that’s all we have ever known since 66.

That was my whole point. Keep recruiting young players who have scope for growth or drafting talented kids. That's the only way out of mediocrity.
Not recruiting 36yo washed up ruckman or Travis Boak and some of the weird suggestions on here.

Sorry how are we getting a first for any those blokes going?

Calm down big man

The suggestion we might be keen of Goldy actually came from Edmund

Most posterrs on here seem to be against it

I think the ideal second ruck option is someone that can play forward well but also ruck if Marshall goes down. That's why I like Lobb.

We have guys on the list that can potentially be that in Heath and Keeler and to a lesser extent Hayes but it's unclear if they'll play next season.

Sorry for posting this here, but at times with some of the most frustrating and ridiculous trade suggestions, it just might be the best thread to post it in.

Lobb not only doesn’t wanna play ruck he also often looks like he doesn’t wanna play football.

Why are people complaining about other players from other clubs

You do realise we have said publicly we want more draft picks .. we can’t go after top end talent with that mandate ..

We’ve also got specific needs to add depth too .. so got to find some value in the way of how we did with stocker ..

People saying wed rather keep coff .. how do we know we dont want to but he may want to leave ??

And we will have more spots on our list because after the delisting we’ve already made , people will leave for the picks we’ve said we want to try and obtain

All makes perfect sense to me

Was interested in getting Goldstein to the Saints when it was first rumoured probably 3-4 years ago not now.

Marshall is a gun but there have to be concerns about the load on him, needs a chop out from someone either from within or getting someone new.

Our priority though is obviously getting class in the middle and surely the club knows that will be interesting how agressive we are with the list.

Henry's stats really aren't that exciting, even in the last month of his breakout season he had 15 and 16 disposal games. Happy to have him but if we pay more than about pick 30 it's too much.

His stats look identical to Hills and he's eight years younger.

Comparing him to Gresham too. Henry is four years younger still on the improve as he hasn't hit the 50 game threshold. Gresham gets his goal a game average while Henry is a better ball user.

Late first is probably his correct value not that i would be giving that. We should deal with Melbourne to get their pick 24 to use for him.

Discussing our match against the GWS with a few folks the other night- no Saints supporters among them, and they were upbeat about the Saints but it seemed I kept hearing the "slow..need more leg speed etc". I guess when I look back at that match, and a few others this season, I could lump the mids and small forwards into "lack of leg speed" category. Where do we get that extra pace and zip from? I expect Byrnes will have a big pre season and will improve us in outside run next season, but can't see much more coming through at the moment and presume our football dept is on the hunt to recruit in that area. Dunno..

A ruck forward would be fantastic. It's not easy finding one good enough who isn't a list logger. Lobb is an absolute garbage footballer but.
