I posted along these lines about Shiel in PM.

I agree. But I still think he improves us for a year or 2

This all needs to be judged in the light of the morning after the draft as far as I’m concerned.

Effectively downgrade their first for 12 or 13 and a second rounder

Gresham will be there for another 8 years. This looks like a short sighted acquisition, especially if you think we are years off a flag.

Sanders wont be there at 8, we will need to trade for 4

Sanders is meant to go between 8 and 12 range. McKercher is the one that's meant to go top 5. It's a pretty shit midfield draft.

Can you imagine 12 and 13 and some for 8 and we miss Sanders and get some half arsed half back flanker who ' can eventually run through the mids'?

Unless we have 4 we will miss out on Sanders.

Well it’s not.

It’s Gresham and a non first round pick for Shiel and a First round draft pick.

So it’s a short medium and long term acquisition

So what do we give up? Gresham, a first and second RDP, our first gets a 4 place up-grade? And we pay Shiel a millionaires wage?

Jesus. I thought I was over getting through trade period and needing therapy.

We tried to trade up for Gibcus and had to settle for a half back flanker. Forgetting about Sanders for a second, would you do 12 and 13 for a chance at an elite mid? I reckon i would, but you'd want to be pretty damn confident.

The Deal for Shiel appears to be:

Shiel and Pick 13

For

Gresham and let’s say 31

Pick 8 is speculation

Sanders isn't that elite IMO. Looks a nice player but not that special apart from scarcity factor. McKercher at 4 maybe but 2 firsts is a lot to give up when you are losing a good player to do it.

Why would Essendon do that when Gresham is FA? They pay us a player that they paid a fortune for and a FRDP for Gresham and pick 40?

So basically they get pick 40 and take Gresham that they'd get with just cash as a FA?

Because if we have made it clear if we don't get good compensation for Gresham we match a force a trade.

Makes a lot of sense for the Bombers rather than giving up a good pick.

Shiel is worthless now. It's just money off the books.

Wait, I just read Sanders has just been added to Norths NGA. What does that mean now? The academy rules confuse me, we were able to get Windhager and Owens because they fell bellow whatever pick it was, then last year we couldn't bid on Cam Mackenzie because of a change to the rules but this year Walter and Read can be matched by GC no matter where they are bid on.

Absolutely. Some coal face muscle + draft assets
Well he's definitely got some face muscle, his whole face is a muscle. I'm not a fan but we've had worse on our list lately and he might have something to prove under Ross. Anyway he's just steak knives: The big draw is band 1 compo for Gresh.

I don’t know. But you’re assuming alot.

They might want rid of Shiel.

We have told them we want a first round compo.

They get another pick and rid of Shiels contract and Gresham.

We take on Shiel a player SOS and Gubby love and get pick 13
