If I have it correct.

He only has a year left on that massive Essendon deal he signed.

So by the end of 2024.

So it’s using our cap space to ensure we get a first round pick for Gresham and a replacement for 12 months

Good point, if we are lucky we can find a player as good as Gresham with that pick.

Gresham will be there for another 8 years. This looks like a short sighted acquisition, especially if you think we are years off a flag.
Gringo Gresham is 26, so you think he will play till he is 34 - I'd say he would be lucky to still be playing by 30 at best with his history of injuries.
I would like him to stay but after this year he just looks to be a run of the mill player and if we can get another first round draft pick for him go for it.

By the sounds the heat has been on him this year and he can't handle it , this is what happens when you hype and mollycoddle players.

Use his selection to find a midfielder that can kick.

Shiel makes Gresham look like GAJ if you're judging them on this season.

Any word on who may be interested in Howard?

He could be that 3rd first rounder
Surley Sydney won't pay us 11?

Sounds like he want stay and play out his contract.

Makes absolute sense from our perspective. People against it just need to white out the name Shiel. We’re getting a much better compo pick for salary.

He's depth at Sandy on this year's form. Worse than Bytel.

Which is opp to what Stav said he heard but wasn't form his no1 source

What about Clark?
How's that looking
Media saying about to sign with us but still a few whispers about him going

For what it’s worth. If we get the value we want for Howard we will make him pack his bags.

(Sounds harsh)

Sydney and Essendon were the 2 this week I had heard of.

Gringo I don't give a rats about Shiel , it's the first round draft pick we want.
Don't rate Shiel and never have - one year deal and he is out the door.

and my faith in Gresham went out the door this year , and we don't need another small forward who can't kick over 45m.

Out the door Gresham in Henry
Out the door Bytel in Shiel and a million in salary cap to go towards a Rozee or someone that is off contract we want - the following year , never know Ben King could come home.

The hysteria in Shiel is a bit OTT.

He is there for one reason, for us to get band 1, we then try to get a quality draft mid like Sanders.

WE NEED QUALITY IN OUR MIDS - HAVE SAID SO FOR A DECADE

Forget Sheil, he is a free hit, he costs SC that we have in abundance and nothing else to spend it on. If he is total s.hit, well goodbye....
But what happens if he recaptures his form? He plays like Wood has for us? Gells with our current mids and looks like GWS Sheil?
As I say a free hit with Sheil, it is a Sanders type we are after, to grow with Chito and Pou, and Naz and even Dow and Henry, we need to build that foundation so lacking for 10 plus years.

How else do we get access to quality mids when GC wraps up three for nothing, F/S allows teams to pick the best players for little, and the AFL allows the premiers to get Bowes and Pick 7?

We don't have the draft capital, we don't have the gravitas of a destination club (and anyway there is no Dangerfield or Tom Green on the market)

How do we break out of this perpetual mid rangers cycle without thinking outside the box?

Forget Sheil, look at the big picture he can be a part of if traded though.

Dylan Shiel — Foot
Given the persistent nature of the injury, the club says it is taking a cautious approach. He will start pre-season on a modified program, with a view to returning to full training after Christmas.

used to reading this, seems he will fit in well, now if he zac dmac ross can dovetail their absences, that would be something

So have 12 and 13 plus shiel with the gresh deal

Then Howard ends up going and somehow jag that as a first

That's 3 firsts

Patton and coff to go and we score maybe a late second and a third or two thirds (prob)
Then Clark says fuxk this im out and gets us a late first as well

That's 4 firsts

And then Billings to North for pick 2

Am I doing it right?

You are swapping Gresham for a pick. We are paying Essendon to push us into a higher band. No really good FRDP mids in this draft apart from McKercher and maybe Sanders. Then some more speculative ones like George Stephens and some of the more outside types like Demattia and Wilson.

I'd say take best available and try to wait until next year for chasing another while topping up with Dow and Henry types.

I'd still back him to become a weapon again over Shiel.
If both players are getting the ball 20 times a game. I think I’d rather it the hands of Shiel over Gresham.

Thats genuinely how bad his disposal was.

The plus side is that it’s another first round to use.
